I would give them negative 5 stars if possible. HORRIBLE and HORRIFIC. Only two words I have to describe
AVETS MONREVILLE and the people who staff the place. Do yourself and your pet a favor and stay far away from this place. It's worth the driving somewhere else. They did exactly the OPPOSITE of what I asked and I forked the $4000 bill. Apparently personal preference takes precedence over owners consent. (WHICH IS NOT ALLOWED BY THE WAY). Tell your your friends, neighbors and even your enemies to NOT take your pet here if you care about them at all.

This is a mixed review because we had two different attending VMD's during the initial intake and our return visit the very next day. Bodie swallowed two lithium batteries on 12/20/13 and within two hours had his X-ray image interpretation by Dr. Crainick. The ONLY options she gave us was major surgery or wait a few hours to see if the batteries passed in his stool; which she clearly did not recommend. When I expressed concern of such an invasive procedure her exact comment was "scars heal." She never even left her chair, showed no compassion, and clearly did not research other possible options. Thank goodness I did not give Bodie to her and opted to give him sometime. After two stools and no batteries I returned to AVETS for another X-ray the very next day to see if they had moved. On 12/21/13 the attending VMD was Dr. Ball. Our experience with her was like night and day from the previous day. The X-rays showed little movement of the batteries. Dr. Ball discussed FOUR options starting with the least invasive. She explained the possibility of inducing vomiting and the use of a scope and the risks associated with both. Dr. Cranick NEVER mentioned these two options the night before. From the X-rays it was clear the batteries were intact so I decided to induce vomiting before trying the more invasive procedures. In twenty minutes Dr. Ball came into the room with two lithium batteries in a bottle!! She clearly was as happy as I was. I thank her from the bottom of my heart for her knowlege, professionalism, and taking the time research his situation. It is the same advice whether human or animal, be careful of the doctor you choose...some are average at best!

Please do not take your pet here. We love our pets and wouldn't take them to the ER if we didn't. My dog nearly dies from dehydration while in the care of DR. Barbara Maton. The Dr. failed to provide and recommend a fluid IV for nearly 6 hours even though he had a temperature of 104.7. I consulted with several other Vet's who questioned the tests that were done and the failure on their part to performe more relevant tests. There was never any treatment or diagnosis given after eight hours at AVETS. My dog "Enzo" almost didn't make it to see our Vet during regular business hours due to severe dehydration. Please do research there are other places to take your animal in the Pittsburgh area. I filed a grievance with AVETS and they responded by covering for DR. Maton. If you must use AVETS ask questions and consult with a more experienced and committed professional while your sick animal is being cared for.

We took our dog Jasper to AVETS last night as he had been acting very spaced out, confused, and stopped eating/drinking. The receptionist was courteous and the triage staff had us checked in right away. The doctor was amazing and spent a thorough time checking him over as his problem could have been caused by a variety of factors. She explained every test she was going to do and why and left all decisions up to me so I wouldn't incur costs I felt unnecessary. After receiving fluids and medicine for his problems Jasper was good as new! I would definitely come back again!

Luckily the doctor was knowledgeable about our situation. Our dog had to have emergency surgery, which fortunately, went smoothly with no complications. We returned not long ago for his post operation checkup and removal of staples. Everything was healing up properly. We are extremely grateful to Avets for their services!

We took our new dog here this past weekend because of complications after his recent neutering. Fortunately, they were able to quickly diagnose the problem and treat the infection. They aren't the cheapest in town, but the high level of service is worth it in my opinion!

I took my dog to Avets because she was having some issues going to the bathroom. I really didn't want to mess around when it came to this. You know how you get when your beloved pet is in pain. My mind was racing on what it could be; urinary tract infection, blocked urethra, kidney stones, etc? Obviously thinking the worst case scenario, I knew I had to get her to the vet as soon as possible. When I arrived, they took care of everything. It was a huge relief. The staff and doctors seemed to really have their stuff together here. I would definitely recommend this place to others.

I can't say enough good things about them. They saved my puppy. She had a bruised lung.My local Vet didn't have the equipment or 24hr care that she needed.Took only1/2 hr from my Vet to Avets. She was in shock when we got there. By the time we finished paperwork she was on oxygen and in ICU. Doctor talked to us about her and gave us an estimate of cost for her special care. We called straight to the ICU unit several times within the 2nights she was there. They talked t o us every time.Asked if we had anymore questions.Told us we could visit her anytime. We did.We saw all the special care they were giving her and the other animals in ICU. They did not know we were coming in.The bill was even on the low end of the estimate. They didn't take advantage of our situation. To me they saved her life. She is only 3months old and 3lbs.I can't thank them enough for the excellent care they care our Brandy.

My wife and I brought our dog in the other day and they examined him right away. They took a few x-rays and discovered he had a fracture just below his stifle joint in his back leg. They wrapped him up and we were told to bring him back in a couple weeks to make sure it??s healing properly. Overall we feel that Avets did a nice job treating our dog. They were easy to deal with and convenient to get to.

Nov.2012,I took my Bengal cat tiffy to avets, the short, she recently stopped eating, lost sudden weight, got wobbly. She's 15yrs old.F,I can't say anything bad, very clean, professional, they call you,or you call anytime on updates.anyway, tiffy had a stomach tumor, and spleen removed, not knowing what the tumor was,I felt it fair to my cat to do surgery,I thought hard and long,I respect other peoples decisions, and after discussing tiffys xrays, I agreed to surgery.she did very well, one stomach incision which healed nicely and no drainage. Jam very grateful ,as she feels better and is not uncomfortable now. I made the right decision, medicine is so advanced in cats, she eats tiny meals, snacks, jumps up on the sink for water every day, sets on window in the sun, runs around the house, playing with toys.her fur is almost all back.she's content and appreciative. Tiffy is not physically sick also. I did opt not to do chemo or radiation, to just bring her home and enjoy whatever days, weeks, months she may have. Doing her old routine. She spent four nites, there. It was very hard to not have her st home, and also see a little cat get so sick. But I prayed hard to bring her home which I did, and she's fine. And its over five weeks. We wouldn't be together now had she not had the surgery due to tumor ruptured bleeding, this little cat was treated very well,no complaints,as I had her there several years ago for a broken tail, and the care was great. Vet care is so different now than before, many options, and surgeries. I had another Bengal Abby there for a virus she had. Seems like for me things happened on weekends or late nite, but a vets is like an ER for pets. There trained better for trauma, and tiffys problem better. Specialists ,surgeons, oncologists, a dr.there 24 hrs. So your pet is not alone, and always monitored.made me sleep better. I would go back,if I had to. Very grateful now to have her home, and spend time together.

Awesome staff and facility! I've taken my dogs to AVETS hospital a couple times over the years for surgery and other minor incidents. I've always had a good experience with them. I would highly recommend to others that have an emergency or need surgery expertise.

I have been to Avets multiple times, it has always been very neat and clean. The staff are always courteous, friendly, and helpful. The doctors are knowledgable and compassionate. I consider this a first-class facility and always recommend them to anyone who asks.

My story was sad going in, a dog in heart failure, but they ushered me right into a suite and made my dog comfortable while they ran tests. The doctor, Elizabeth Wade, was patient, compassionate and very patient as she explained their findings and my options and likely outcomes. In the end, I knew I needed to stop his suffering, but the staff bundled my baby in a handmade blanket, gave me time for goodbye smiles and kisses, and very gently sent him on to a happier place. Afterwards, they were very accommodating and gave me as much time as I needed to say my goodbyes. It was definitely expensive, but we all know emergency rooms are expenive, for pets and people. In the worst possible moment, these folks were the best.

Took my cat here last week for urinary tract infection. He had to be catheterized. He spent a couple days there, but fortunately I received calls updating me on his status. Just got Bubsy back the yesterday. From what I can see, they took excellent care of him!

Took my dog here the other day because he had a gross-looking rash on his neck. The doctor was very knowledgeable and explained the remedy to us. He said it was more than likely an allergic reaction to something. Overall, a little pricey but good service.

We took our cat here because she was vomiting bile and not eating. She was otherwise normal in behavior but wanted to be sure she would be ok. The doctor was nice enough although was vague in any attempt to explain what may be wrong. He offered bloodwork and we complied. He offered a "mild sedative" for our cat since she is a bad patient, especially with needles. We unfortunately complied. He also spoke vaguely of hydrating her since she wasn't eating or drinking. This part apparently never happened and we were not charged for it. However, our cat was much worse for the next 2 and a half days while we waited for a Monday appt with our usual vet. Turns out she was never hydrated, was overdrugged dangerously for a female cat (the doctor at avets continually referred to her as "he"), and probably should never have recieved any kind of sedative in her condition. I'm thankful that our usual vet was able to hydrate her and she seems to be feeling better. We spent 400$ at AVETS for our cat to be made even sicker than she was when we took her.

It's hard for me to review them because by the time I got my pet to them, she had no chance to live. She was having seizures after an apparent stroke. I think they know what they're doing, but it's really tough when you have to pay $250+ just for them to tell you that your dog has no chance to live. It would have cost over $500 for us to get the ashes for our dog, which I wanted, but I couldn't get because I couldn't afford it. If they lowered their prices, they'd get a better rating.

So disappointed with the way my family was treated there. My chocolate lab was taken there for care for trouble breathing. My husband was asked for $150 to walk in the door and $150 for immediate care. I couldn't go I was home with the kids so the doctor called me and explained he needed to stay the night which they need $1000 upfront to hold him there and a cat scan in the morning would also be $1500 more. She explained he has a large mass in his throat and she might not be able to get the tube down his throat. She said radiation treatment would be $2000 or more. I can't believe they didn't try to help him and then bill us. I didn't have thousands of dollars up front with three kids at home but I could make payments. That wasn't an option- sadly my buddy is gone and he was only 5 yrs old. The kids don't understand how "doctors" won't help unless you have money. I can't explain that cause I don't understand myself. RIP Brody

I am posting this in the hopes that others will have an idea what to expect if they take their pet to AVETS for treatment. If you are considering doing so please read some of the other online reviews. I recognize that your pet me be very sick to require ER care but there are others options in the area, consider them first.

If you must use this place ask questions and consult with a more experienced and committed professional while you??re sick animal awaits care.

Took my dog to AVets last night (first and LAST time!). We were checked in and placed in a room very quickly then sat there for nearly an hour while listening to the staff laugh and talk out in the hallways. Finally had to go out to see if they forgot about us. Was told "NO, the doctor will be in soon". That was the only explaination offered. Finally the doctor comes in, asked some questions, took a quick look at my dogs swollen ear and tells me that she is going to go get some cleaner and a "nurse" so she can clean the debris away and attempt to see where the drainage is actually coming from. She asks me to put a muzzle on my dog, who is very friendly. I guess I can understand that but what really upset me (and my pet) is that she left the room and we sat there for ANOTHER HALF HOUR before getting fed up and leaving! I refused to pay. I called the office manager today to express my displeasure of being left to wait for so long without ever being offered an explaination and was basically told that they are going to turn me into a collection agency for the $119.00 emergency visit. They are very secretative and dont want to provide me with any information and/or names so as to allow me to pursue this issue further. They are only concerned with collecting money for substandard service. I would also like to add that my dog had a nasty ear infection with alot of bloody/watery drainage... and that vet didnt even wash her hands before she left the room. Why did I notice that you ask, because I washed my hands when I got there and couldnt find any paper towels! I DEFINATELY DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS CLINIC!!!

A few days ago, our 8 month old kitty, Junior, escaped the house through an open window, and ended up being hit by a car. My huband and I were out of town, fortunately our daughter was home at the time. I found Avets on line and called them. They agreed to take our credit card over the phone for his care and our daughter brought Junior to their office. Unfortunately, Juniors injuries were too severe and he crossed the rainbow bridge before arriving at Avets.
The staff checked Junior to confirm our fears, he was gone, at least he was no longer suffering. The tech spent some time with our daughter, to help her calm down after the shock of seeing Junior injured, the hurried drive, and his passing. They then cleaned Junior up a bit, wrapped him nicely in the blanket she had brought him in and prepared him to be brought back home.
During this time the tech had made a small plaster cast of Juniors paws with his name etched on it which they sent home to us as a rememberance. The thoughfulness of this created a treasure the our family will hold dear for years to come.
For all their time, loving care, and compassion they charged us not a penny, didnt even ask for our credit card number! Our daughter reported that the staff was wonderful to her while she was there.
For this family, which includes a 7 year old boxer and 4 cats, Avets is the only place we would go for emergency care, though we truly hope we never need to again. THANK YOU AVETS!!

Our puppy was in need of overnight care and we tried Avets eventhough the reviews are so mixed. She got good care but it was expensive. The place was clean and the doctor was very knowledgeable. 4 stars because the staff & assistants weren't too on-the-ball and there was a wait but overall we recommend Avets and will return if need be.

i couldnt be happier with avets. my dog was left out and ended up eating a 10lb box of chocolate, tampons, condom, underwear, etc.
it was midnight when i got home. and rushed her straight to avets.
being 45mins away from there, i called over 6 times for directions. the lady at the desk stayed on the phone with me until i got there.
they were able to take my dog right away. the same girl sat with me, talked with me, made me a cup of coffee. she was just so nice and comforting.
as a smoker, i was having a fit. i was outside several times. and every time. she got news about my dog, she came outside (dead of winter) to tell me.
the vet was so nice. she explained everything so well that i understood. answered all my questions.
my dog left there back to herself. also, she loved all the staff. giving them kisses, showing them tricks. i could tell my dog was treated the best.
they are very expensive. but it is an emergency 24/7 clinic. and honestly, if you love your pet like i love mine, then the money doesnt matter.

BEWARE
I took my dog to AVETS. After the checkup, the veterinarian met with me to discuss my dog's condition. She stated that my dog was extremely ill and could pass at any time. Of course I was extremely emotional. Several times I told the vet that I wanted to take the dog home and take her to my own vet the next day. The vet repeated told me how sick my dog was and I needed to keep her there overnight. I didn't want to, but I finally gave in. I was told that the cost would be between $700 and $1100. It would only be on the high side if they needed to do extreme measures. The next day I pick up my dog. The cost for the care for overnight was $1,175. There was no surgery, this was all costs for ICU care. When I took my dog outside, she began to play in the snow. Obviously not a dog ready to die at any minute. Immediately, I knew I had been played. I'm not saying that they didn't care for her, what I'm saying is that there wasn't a need to stay overnight. I feel that I was pressured into this extra cost of an overnight stay.

I normally don't write reviews, but felt compelled to do so after combining my recent experience at AVETS with some of the reviews below.

We had to take our 3 year old boxer to AVETS on Saturday night January 1st after she had consumed a dish towel and had not passed it and wasn't eating for two days. Upon arrival, we were through triage within 5 mins and were meeting with the doctor within another 10 mins.

As expected, x-rays were recommended. They showed the mass in her stomach which could only be the towel since she hadn't eaten in two days. We decided to go through with the surgery considering that it appeared that part of the towel had started to move its way into her intestines. We left our dog at AVETS that night for surgery around 11:30 PM...we were told that we would receive a call after the procedure which would be underway around 2 AM after they treated her for slight dehydration. We received a call around 4 AM stating that the surgery went great and that she was groggy, but awake and beginning her recovery. We were told that we could call whenever we wanted and someone would be able to give an update on her progress.

I called at least a couple times a day to get updates, which the nurses and/or doctors were more than willing to provide. I was contacted once each day by the doctor taking care of her. We even went to visit her on Sunday night without any issue. The staff was friendly, courteous and eager to provide us with any service or info that we asked of them.

She was kept an extra night because she did not eat until fairly late on Sunday and the doctor was not comfortable letting her come home until she saw how she reacted to the feeding. I will admit that it was a bit dissappointing, but only because we missed her and wanted her home.

The pre-surgery estimate was 2500-3500 and we were required to pay the lesser amount up front, which we were okay with. I see most reviewers are most turned off by the prices, but I've heard from quite a few people that these emergency procedures are in this range and we felt that this was in fact at the lower end of some of the prices we had been hearing.

Upon our pup's departure, we were given a COMPLETE itemized list of every expense and I am happy to report that not only did we stay at the lower end of the estimate, BUT WE WERE EVEN REFUNDED A PORTION OF OUR ORIGINAL PAYMENT EVEN THOUGH SHE HAD TO STAY AN EXTRA NIGHT!!!

I have to say that AVETS was PHENOMENAL!! Couldn't have been happier with our experience with them. We would not hesitate to go back should we be confronted with another reason to do so.

We took our 8 month Labradoodle to AVets around 11pm on Friday 12/10 following blood work and and ultrasound from our primary vet pointing to severe kidney failure. He was admitted immediately and stayed until Monday evening 12/13. Throughout the entire 3 days I felt Chuey(pet) was in great care and they were very permissable with visitation etc. whenever I chose to come. I was able to call any hour of the day and they kept me updated and informed, not to mention I would go in an take up an exam room for sometimes 2-3 hours just to sit with him. He was very sick and prognosis was not good, so I tried to be there with him and comfort him as much as possible.
The cost was extreme and I had never foreseen the amount that would be spent, roughly 3,600 by the time we left, but fortunately we had the funds to move forward with treatments. Chuey is still with us and I thank the efforts of my primary vet and AVets for their care and quick action to pinpoint the issue, diagnose appropriately and begin treatment as quickly as they could.
I was disappointed when we initially got to AVets and I was told the specialist couldnt see him until Monday and just to get him in and cared for until then would be 1,500. My Vet was under the assumption someone could do the ultrasound as soon as we got there to help better diagnose his issues. I would have liked a 24 hour urgent care for pets to have a specialist on site at all times and not just weekdays but it was the closest location to where we lived as my other option was PVS which would have been an 1.5 hr drive from home. I did feel 1,500 for fluids and blood work throughout the weekend was a bit high, not to mention we far exceeded that before we left, but for the type of care he received as well as how I was treated, it was well worth it.
Our little furball is still with us and fighting through his kidney disease one day at a time, but I know if his time comes that AVets really did care for him to the best they could. I never felt like a dollar sign or as though they were trying to make money off of me.

I took my dog to AVETS 9:30 Sunday morning 12-12-10. We were registered immediately and seen by a technician for assessment within 7 minutes. We knew the exact treatment before it was administered. The vet spent as much time as we needed to fully understand the treatment, answered every question we had and could not have been more accommodating. We were in and out in less than 90 minutes. They far exceeded my expectations. Given another emergency I would not hesitate to return. Excellent

This is a very mixed review ,on the overall welfare of your pets I would have to vote quite negative ,as emphasis' is in favor of profits.
I do not have enough knowledge to critique the medical ( limited ) portion of the visit.
The total experience was just not right.

If there is no other choice ,then they could save your pet if enough $$$$ is given.
The staff was initially prompt courteous and compassionate .
Within 5 minutes pet was weighed ,vitals logged as severely distressed and taken away to an oxygen container.
We were taken to a room where it was announced as "sold room X"
given forms to fill out 1st was info and consent for $120 bill already spent to this point
2nd form we never finished as it had a glaring $300 request ,for the next step, fluids and or stabilizing triage.
so no FURTHER care was administered

I understand they need to turn a profit,

but from this point I wanted to take the pet else where.

The doctor came in and still seeming professional and concerned . It was quite overwhelming and at the very same time was more like a used car salesman ala-carting every part to complete the car.
We need this test it is X $$$ then X test $$ (correctly not giving false hope)but little true hope for success)) Then x treatment is $$$$ I felt the minimum would be $1000-$1200 and we had done/know nothing yet. And only a guarded chance of saving the pet
We were offered a special Credit card to help with payment ,that insured them immediate payment .( declined it, as payment of reasonable treatment and fees was never an issue)
Statement was ,"pet needs admitted and that would be $300 and possibly-$700 + additional items.then treatment would begin.
We discussed an alternate course of action and most bang for the $$$ options and started a little progress.
Should have taken the cheaper poison test and $500-$800 treatment with a guarded savable prognosis.
But picked the more telling/informative 2 x-rays for $130
Here is where it got worse
x-ray did not clearly show any internal bleeding, possibly indicative of poison, trauma or other concerns, but what the doctor perceived as a tumor confining the heart.(7 month old kitten, healthy ,climbing trees 24 hours earlier) that would most likely require surgery. And or could be complications with feline leukemia.or additional problems.(regular vet expressed concern as misdiagnosis and good chance for recovery reluctantly they are 8-8 )

Fearing the outcome and much suffering of the pet to come.
We made the worst decision of our life (lacking professional input, and full knowledge of real world options, and with the opportunity for more car add ons gone)we decided to put the pet down. No resistance to the option was expressed by the doctor nor "think a minute we can still complete the $$$$ tests and save the pet " Unfortunately the cheapest part was done with compassion , they even sent a condolence card.

I would have paid $$$$$ to save the young pet.
However the whole atmosphere was about selling /up charging
and felt of a used car lot, thusly I was not buying the car without engine and tires.
they may/can do good work but not everyone can afford a used Mercedes ala cart from a commissioned salesman.

Totally distraught over taking pet here and options /choice made

I am honestly blown away by the bad reviews. Last night when my cat was having difficulty breathing, my search turned up these reviews and I was very nervous. Regardless, we took her in. The receptionist immediatley asked the severity, and we were taken directly to triage. The tech was wonderful, gentle and expedient.

They took her directly to a room and sent us to wait. We only waited about 45 minutes for them to examine and diagnose. (this may seem like a long wait, but with my experience with the waiting room at Execella in Greensburg anytime I've taken my daughter there, 45 minutes seemed like 5)

The doctor came in and explained the prognosis in laymans terms. She was very honest, and gave reccomendations that included all options and also broke them down by expense to give us a clear understanding of the monetary implications of any decision we had to make.

Although we did decide that our cat would not be able to come home with us, the outstanding service did not stop. The same receptionist who had given us prompt service came back with the papers for us to sign, and shared our grief over the circumstances. She seemed regretful, almost, to charge us for the services that were provided. Meanwhile, I was floored by the minimal costs we incurred.

The techs brought our cat out, left us alone with her, and when we called for them to take her, the young woman took her from me and snuggled her up and continued to pet her, assuring me that she would remain with her until the end.

I COULD NOT have gone throught the emotional trauma without the OUTSTANDING serivces of all of the employees there.

Budget was a huge concern to us, and not once were we made to feel that they were scraping us for money. Instead they were willing to do what needed to be done, while keeping our constraints in mind.

I VERY highly reccommend AVETS.

I had a bad experience. They are money hungry. Just walk in and see all of the signs wanting payment. I have NEVER seen so many signs in a vets office. For heaven's sake, anyone who takes their dog to the vet can afford to pay.

I agree with others DO NOT TAKE YOU PET HERE.

If you LOVE your animal, do NOT take it here. They are horrible. It starts the minute you meet the receptionist. She doesn't have a clue about treating people and animals nicely. The vets do not know what they are doing. Sent my dog home when he was very sick only to return the next day. Another $119.00 PLUS. Then surgery was over $4,000 only to have top put my dog down. I paid over 5 grand to put my dog down. They charge for EVERYTHING. I will NEVER step foot in this place again. BUYER BEWARE.

I have used a-vets before when our 15 year old cat got suddenly ill. We ended up having to have her put to sleep. The staff was wonderful!!!! And I am truly grateful for that.
I have another cat, a male, who I absolutely adore. He is an indoor only cat. Never had any interactions with the above mentioned female. They lived in separate rooms of the house. My male cat had a little trouble peeing one night, and being worried that it was a blockage, I drove out to a-vets. Turned out it was not a blockage, he was just irritated from a allergy. He was put on antibiotics and sent home. The vet was wonderful. However, I must say, my cat was not very cooperative when being at this place. He was scared. He doesn't like to be driven anywhere in a car, let alone be outside of the home. I was told to wait in the waiting room while they got his temp, vitals......they said "if he is good, we will bring him out to the waiting room to be with you" I thought that would be a great idea since he was terrified. He never came out. I was called back to a room about 1/2 hour later and explained in details what they thought his problem was, and to treat it. Following up with my own vet. I was satisfied and went on my way. The vet informed me that he was very "pissed off". Knowing my cat get likes this when terrified, I basically said I was sorry for how he acted and went on my way. The next day he was fine, although ticked off at me for even taking him out of the house. He finally made up with me. The following day, in the morning, I got up and my cat always comes and sees me. That morning he didn't. I went to look for him and found him laying on the floor down stairs. He was ok, looked at me and I said " come on upstairs". He went to get up and had a terrible limp!!!!! I was devastated. He could hardly walk and limped all the way up the steps, to the bedroom. I kept trying to get him to "walk it off". Finally, after about 1/2 hour, he seemed much better, but just wanted to lay around. The following day, he was back to normal. Which then arose a question in my mind......what the hell did they do to my cat? I think with him being as upset and "pissed off" as the vet described, I really think they used uneccessary force on him and restrained him, and in the process, pulled a muscle in his leg. I am also very upset in the fact that if they were having difficulty controlling him, then why didn't they come and get me so I could try to calm him down??? Other pet owner's went back while their pets were being examined...why wasn't I?? I understand the cautions they have to take, believe me, however, my cat is 17 years old. He would of been fine if I would of been allowed to stay with him. This was not by any means a emergency situation that I couldn't be with him. Although very satisfied with the service, and treatment I received, I am not satisfied with the "after" effects of this visit. I just wish my cat was able to talk to I could find out how rough they were with him.

Let me start by saying that the doctors and assistants that we dealt with at AVETS were very curtious, caring, and seemed fairly knowledgeable about the specific conditions that my dog could have been dealing with even though he is a less well known breed. With that said, I am very glad that my dog did not have an injury that time would have been an issue with.

My wife and I took our 100lb puppy to AVETS because he had developed a limp and wouldn't put any weight on his paw. After arriving we were shortly taken back to have some initial things done (weight, temperature, etc). Then back to the waiting room for about an hour. We were then taken back where it was determined we would get x-rays and at $130 per we got to choose, paw and elbow or shoulder because with their $120 flat fee for seeing our dog, we simply didn??t have enough money for another x-ray. So we sit and wait for 30-45 minutes for the x-ray only to find out that nothing is visible and it is most likely a pulled muscle of some sort. We are then ushered back to the waiting room. After about 45 minutes I go to the front desk and ask how long it is going to be before we are discharged and I am told that they are waiting on paperwork and it shouldn??t be much longer. Another 45 minutes pass before the vet that treated us notices we are still there, goes back and talks to the discharge people, and magically we are called back for discharge about 2 minutes later. All in all we were there for almost 5 hours just to get an x-ray and some pain meds for our dog.

I am very happy that my dog is okay and there was a place to take him on a Sunday afternoon when our vets office is closed, I just wish that it wasn??t so expensive and that the office employees would focus more on the pets and their families. A for care, D for price, F for awareness and service.

Avets is a scam. $400 in tests resulted in no diagnosis or treatment. Was then told to come back another day.

Had to take cat to another vet to get $50 antibiotic for a simple infection they found when they checked the cat out.

I'm contesting charges on my credit card for failure to provide services and reporting them to the state licensing bureau.

This hospital saved my yorkie's life and successfully diagnosed her. Final diagnosis was Addison's Disease. My husband is a physician and knew she was extremely dehydrated prior to lab tests. We knew there was something underlying the dehydration as she had been drinking and urinating. I will say I do not think the triage area is a precise indicator of how "sick" the dog is as our concerns over dehydration and seizures were not properly addressed, nor reflected in the record. HOWEVER, Dr. Kepping and Dr. O'Keefe proved phenomenal and we are so thankful for this hospital. We were travelling from OH to RI and were in western PA when my dog collapsed and started seizing. She had a seizure in with Dr. Kepping and it was traumatic but Dr. Kepping stayed calm and was able to give us scenarios as to why our dog was experiencing the symptoms she was. We were given a fair prognosis at the time (meningitis, brain tumor, etc were at play) but also hopeful that with the IVs, she would improve. Dr. Kepping was instrumental in bringing about a possible Addison's diagnosis just based solely on early lab results. Considering the history, this made complete sense in hindsight. My little yorkie, Emmy, was on IVs, given an ACTH stim test (for Addison's), and placed on steroids (b/c Addison's was suspected). She got better by the hour/day and the test confirmed Addison's. Dr. O'Keefe was wonderful with her care and very adamant even before the test that's what we are dealing with. I am very attached to my little Emmy and am so thankful that we found such a wonderful hospital at such a trying time. Thank you to everyone at A-Vets for saving our little Emmy!

I have trusted AVETS to take care of my dogs and cats for years. They have the best interests of the animals in mind. They are professionals with overhead who need to make a living, and given health care costs nowadays, I can understand why people believe they may be too expensive. However, that's why I have pet insurance. It helps, although having pets does cost money to take care of them.

I strongly suggest not allowing care for your loved one by AVETS. It is my opinion that they are driven by money as displayed by their policies covering payment and options, their agreements which must be signed prior to treament, and the very short period in which they turn any balance over to a collection agency.
I was advised by my regular vet, who I trust implicitly, to not allow a non-board certified surgeon to perform surgery on my dog. But I did agree to let a vet in residency at AVETS to do exactly that. The results were not good as my beloved pet never recovered and expired just after 2 days in their care. Obviously, I can only guess how the surgery went but I believe the vet did not have the skills to conduct this type of surgery or deal with any issues that arose during the surgery.
The surgery was delayed for an hour for an unexplained reason and lasted much longer than expected due to something that happened during surgery.
As stated by a previous reviewer I also had to wait a long time in order to vist my pet. When I finally did get to visit, everything seemed to be clean or brand new, making me wonder about the condition of my pet before I arrived.
Although they want guarantee of payment up front, they in turn do not pay much attention to details regarding the pet owner or pet. I never received my pet's collar. Although to non-pet people this may seem trivial, it is something that I requested but never received from AVETS.
I also never received a follow-up call from the surgeon after my pets passing.
I think everything listed is a huge reflection of the attitude and commitment of AVETS. Yes, they do have equipment but without compassion it doesn't achieve much positive.
I also question the validity of many of the reviews written here. If I could, I would give no stars.

Let me start by saying that AVETS saved my beloved pet!! My little dog received exactly the care that I would expect from an emergency/specialty facility. **You absolutely get what you pay for!!! We went there for answers and we got them. They don't take a wait and see approach. You bring your pet in and they start their work-up. It is just like human emergency room care. You are triaged in order of severity. You may have to wait. (FYI, the staff is ALSO taking care of the animals that are in the intensive care unit there so-expect to wait a little) AVETS used their superior technology to discover my precious dog's medical problems in a time efficient manner.
The staff at AVETS is compassionate and understanding. I work in human health care and I feel that the caliber of their skill and dedication at AVETS compares with the very best!!
BUT, I have to comment on some of the other reviews... I am sorry that you were disappointed. When treating someone who can't tell you their symptoms, diagnostics is almost all you have to go on, so you have to get diagnostic testing. AVETS openly and without pressure tells you what they are charging and there are no hidden fees. You can choose to pay and help your pet or not. The choice is always yours...I would take my pet back to AVETS for emergency/specialty care in a heart beat.

I am so thankful that there is such a place in existence! It was a terrible start to our vacation (our first in 3 years) our Siamese went into kidney failure after being diagnosed 2 weeks prior. We rushed him to A-Vets almost killing our car getting there. When I ran in crying my eyes out the compassionate people who work there practically dragged us in to get the help we needed. I would like to thank everybody who was working on Sat. 8/1 around 3-4pm. If it wasn't for you guys i don't know what I would have done. And for the people who were already there and waiting thank you for being so patient and also compassionate towards our situation. And in response to the costs, how can you put a price on a loved one!

I have been to Avets several times and they have always been courteous and helpful. Everytime I have gone they have triaged my dog right away and treated him. The doctors have always told me all the options and were very honest with me. If I went to the doctors for all the same treatments and tests, the costs would have been much higher. For the care they give, it is well worth it! I have learned throughout the years to insure my pets as well as myself. They have specialists so of course the cost is more. My dog needed to see the neurologist and they had one. My lab is like a family member to me and all the staff have been very understanding. Thank you Avets and I would highly recommend them!

In June 2007, at 13, my Jack Russell was refefrred to AVETS for cardiac problems: bad valves, enlarged heart, and congestive heart failure. Because of their care, my boy lived for almost 2 more years. He was alert, active, and enjoyed playing with his balls and squeaky toys until a few days before his death. If I had not gone to AVETS, he would have been gone two years ago! Thank You AVETS for giving me a two years to enjoy my boy's company.

I to my dog (very sick) to Avets because my local animal hospital was not staffed at the time. I took 1,000 dollars with me because at my regular animal hospital I give a deposit and pay the rest when i pick my pet up. My dog was able to walk in on her own power (and ate boiled chicken before we left home) but she was breathing heavily. The doctor talked to me and said she would have to be on oxygen, Iv, and maybe more. I said okay. We went to the pay window and when I said I only had 1,000 dollars with me the vet said no we need at least 2,000. We went back into a room to talk and I was told for 1,000 the pet could be cared for with reduced procedures but that she needed the other procedures to live. I went back the next day to see my pet and she did not even recognize me. I cannot understand how she went downhill so fast. I think this facility is open for pet owners in distress and charges more than is reasonable because they know we love our pets.

I took my cat to AVETS last week. She was diagnosed with kidney failure. My cat was almost 19 years old. In my heart I knew that it was her time to go, but I wanted to give her one more chance. AVETS cared for her for 4 days. I truly feel that she had the best quality, professional and loving care at AVETS. Unfortunately we had to make the decision that it was her time to go. And yes, you do know your own pet. I did look into her eyes and I knew she wanted us to let her go. She is in peace now, over the Rainbow Bridge and we are at peace knowing that she had almost 19 good and wonderful healthy years here with us on earth. It's very hard to lose a part of your family, but in my heart I know that we did the right thing and AVETS was there for us to give her that one more chance.

I took my dog to AVETS this past week (on the advice of the vet caring for him) to see the cardiologist for a heart arrhythmia that he developed while being treated for an illness. The doctors and staff were very kind and courteous and took wonderful care of my dog. They did not try to "run up my bill" and actually recommended that I transfer my dog's care to another facility because it was in his best interest. He needed surgery for probable cancer (diagnosed without the aid of all of the "high tech" equipment) and felt it best that he receive the surgery at a facility with board certified surgeons.

It seems that most of the people posting here are most upset about the cost. I will tell you that I spent three nights in three different vet emergency clinics this past week and each night cost ~$1500. That is the reality of the cost for this care....but what wonderful care it was...at every place.

On a side note, I also took my other dog to AVETS a year ago for an ultrasound and they could not have been nicer. They did the test I was there for and did not try to push any other tests. I found them to be very reasonable price-wise, especially when compared to the cost of human medicine.

A last note to pet owners...consider pet insurance. I always mocked it but now I wish I had it.

We are extremely pleased with Avets services. We have been to other vets in the area in the past and they are not nearly as thorough as Avets. My husband and I do not have a problem paying a little more for the emergency service, if we know our pets are getting the highest quality of care. Everyone at Avets was extremely nice to us during our dog emergencies over the past couple of years.

Took our cat there due to a urinary blockage. Wait was somewhat long, however, they took great care of him. We did end up having to hospitalize him for a few days. During his stay we felt welcome to call or visit at anytime of day or night. The staff, especially Mary Anne, nurses and Drs. were awesome. They seemed to truly care about the animals they were caring for. The accommodations were very nice. We were able to speak with a Dr. each time we visited. They took as much time as we wanted in a private room. The Drs. and nurses also kept in touch w/ us by phone. I highly recommend for emergency care. They are quite expensive and do require payment before anything is done. However, we were able to apply for CareCredit on-site and get approved. While I do say they are expensive I also understand that they are an emergency care facility and that is not cheap but I can see where some folks may have a lot of trouble b/c not everyone can afford or qualify for credit. Payment plans would be helpful. I do recommend them highly.

My dog ""Enzo"" almost didn't make it to see our Vet during regular business hours due to severe dehydration. Please do research there are other places to take your animal in the Pittsburgh area. I filed a grievance with AVETS and they responded by covering for DR. Maton. If you must use this place ask questions and consult with a more experienced and committed professional while your sick animal is being cared for.\r

We took our 17 month old corgi in today because he got a piece of glass and we couldn't be sure he hadn't swallowed some. We saw Dr. Dinger. She was wonderful with Kirby, very efficient and loving toward him. She took x rays and did a thorough exam of his mouth, throat and paws to be sure that he didn't have glass in them. She showed us his x rays and I appreciated the time she took to show us everything in great detail. I felt as though they did a good job with my dog in explaining things to me and my family. My only problem was the amount of time we spent there... nearly 4 hours. I've had animals get x rays before, and I think we should have been in and out in half that time. It didn't seem terribly busy (but I'll grant that it was the first time I've been there), and since they are a 24 hours emergency clinic, I would have thought they would have been better equipped to deal with cases such as ours in a shorter amount of time. Other than the time spent, I felt as though this was a good experience.
