this place is a joke, my neighbor found a stray cat outside during 30 degree and below temperatures but she could not take it in because of her dogs, so i took it in and tried to drop it off at this "shelter" the next morning. they wanted my license which i did not want to give because i have dealt with this place before and know they try to charge you for everything and anything, so i simply let it out outside i had no other option, i could not care for the cat any more than i already had... that's when this pathetic guy came out to write down my license plate number even though its not my car lol, i admit i called him an a** hole for making it difficult to try to help an animal (i bathed the cat, fed her, put a flea and tick collar on her just in case and tried to take her to a shelter) at which point he threatened me and said to get out of the car and he'd kick my ass? lmao unbelievable

DO NOT surrender an animal here as 9/10 chance they will euthanize. However, if you do want to adopt, please DO adopt here to get these poor animals out of this hell hole. A friend of mine found kittens in a dumpster and called them asking for help, they told him to call PEST CONTROL!

They pick and choose what they put on the adoption floor. if they dont like the color of a dog or some other BS excuse, they kill them. Dont even think about taking a pit bull type dog there, they hate them so much that I swear they would stand on the lawn with a rifle and pick the dog off before you even got through the doors. I own a pit bull mix, and have her well trained. I had to bring her for a dog meet for a dog I was adopting here. The look on their faces was unbelievable. Not only that, every employee came out of the woodwork during the meet, as if I was bringing a rabid dog in to meet a kitten. Of course my dog behaved flawlessly and her and the adopted dog are now best buddies.

The women at the front desk and surrounding areas are complete idiots, cold, unhelpful. Actually, I think they have some type of mental problem. I work with my own patients every day and am generally upbeat and cheerful, and I left that place being angry.

When I adopted a dog there. They stated she had to be spayed before taking her home. Ok fine. But they couldnt get her spayed for at least two weeks. I asked if I could take her home to free up a cage then bring her back for the spay, or take her to my own vet and they refused. So the poor dog sat in the cold cage, with nothing to lay on but a cement floor for weeks. I felt so horrible that I went and visited her every day during adoption hours, and they told me I wasnt allowed to take her out of the cage! And this is after I paid all the fees AND was charged twice for all her shots (I let it go since I was going to donate extra money anyway)

Never in my life have i ever seen a humane society be so INhumane. Ive volunteered at Philly ACCT and PSPCA and that is a high stress environment however I always left there knowing that the workers cared about the animals and were always pleasant and helpful. What a shame that place still exisits.
For the sake of the animals there, please do go and adopt there, but be prepared to deal with these people. And certainly dont use the vet services there, they treat the animals like raw meat, uncompassionate.

I think the reason why animals are killed so quickly is because they don't want to spend money to keep feeding animals.
Killing is much cheaper than keep feeding animals until somebody come and take home.
It's all about money isn't it?
It is so sad for animals who end up in this shelter.

A wonderful place to adopt. Everyone helpful. If adopting a dog. they make sure the dog will have a safe fenced in area at your home They do a yard check. If you have other dogs ,you bring them in for a meet & greet .If you own cats you can request a walk through the caged cat area to make sure your adopted dog is compatible.. After all, its about the animals.

They will immediately euthanize any dog that looks like a pit bull or sharpei, or a mix of either of those breeds, regardless of temperament, even if they have plenty of available cages. They also will not adopt out a FIV+ cat, even if the adopter wants to take on that responsibility. Only the youngest, most adoptable dogs have a chance here.

The worse place ever to take a animal there. I had taken in a cat from the streets cause she was about to have kittens. When we first brought her in she was a little mean with the other cats (there are 4 other cats in the house as well) but she never did anything to hurt them but she loved people she just wants to be the only cat in the house cause she was outside for so long that's whats she use too. She had given birth to 6 kittens 5 boys and one girl. We had kept her in one room the whole time its a big room so she had room to walk and run.

One day she had gotten out of the room without us knowing and she had gotten one of my cats she bite her eye. We took my cat to the WHS and the one doc there said we will take the eye out for this amount of money and it was cheap. Every vet i took her too was over $600.00 and i could not pay that much. So we got the eye taken out and I payed alot less then $600.00. Me and my boyfriend had to make the decision to take our mama cat and her kittens to the WHS. The lady at the desk witch she was a bi@#h said they may not get adopted we don't make guarantees that they will get adopted. I looked at her and was like really there kittens your going to kill kitten that are only 8 weeks old.

I do not advise anyone to hand over there anmial to the WHS they will kill them. No matter if they are kittens, puppies what ever it is they will kill your animal. But the Vets there are very nice and will take care of you. So if your animal is sick go there to the vet cause they are very nice to you and your animal.

I found a lost friendly kitten cat. He was very lovable and friendly. I had a cat already and knew my cat wouldnt go for another cat in the house. I wanted so bad to keep him but I thought the Philly SPCA would just put him down without a chance to find a good home. I felt I did the right thing by taking kitten ( looked about 9 month to yr old) to the Woman's Humane Society b/c its nice and clean and I got my current pet there 7 yrs ago. MAN WAS I WRONG. I checked up to see if the kitten was adopted and he's DEAD. I was told he was mean and vicious. He was a very friendly cat. I was shocked to learn of his fate so soon. I just dropped him off on August 1st. Plus, I made a donation. I recommend never taking an animal there ever again. I am heartbroken now.

I worked for 3 years in a small animal shelter in Philadelphia, and remember when the Women's Humane moved to Bensalem.

Today I had my first chance to actually go to their new location, and was incredibly impressed.

I had to surrender two tiny kittens, only a few weeks old, who had been thrown into a dumpster by a barbaric excuse for a human. If a neighbor had not seen it and rescued them, they would have frozen to death.

This being winter, kittens are very hard to come by and they assured me these two little girls would be "no problem" to get adopted.

I realize WHS is a shelter that euthanizes animals but I have no problem with that. It is FAR better for that to happen (painlessly and compassionately), than to stay on the streets and be abused, hit by cars, suffer disease and torture by rotten kids. I was reading earlier about a man in NJ who is in jail because he answered those "free to good home" kitten ads and tortured and ripped apart innocent little kittens FOR FUN.

Anyone who attacks a shelter that compassionately euthanizes animals that there are no GOOD homes for, or that are sick, is not an animal lover in the true sense of the word. Just being alive is not better than euthanasia if the alternative to euthanasia is being left to starve or be abused on the city streets!

If you REALLY cared about animals, you'd understand this. The "no kill" shelters are a joke...those of us who worked in the animal shelter knew that the no kill places only accept the most highly adoptable animals...they allow the rest to be sent to the "kill" shelters, who then do their dirty work and get the bad rep and low donations.

No kill shelters are NOT a true friend of animals, they are only a friend of the most adoptable ones!

The man at the desk was kind. The older, skinny, gray-haired man who came out to take my dog to the vet was not friendly at all. He actually was quite scary looking in rubber boots up to his thighs. I was in tears and told him my dog was a good dog in hopes he would be gentle when he put him on his leash and walked away from me. I couldn't bare to watch being he did not seem sensitive at all. I was not allowed in the room which broke my heart. I can understand why the vet might not want you in the room. It is probably hard on him too to put a dog down.
I did not have the money for my own vet. My dog had gottem bitten thru his snout and was bleeding profusely when I went outside to let him in by my neighbors huge mean dog. I could not afford the medical bill an my dog was 11 years old and had bit my 5 year old recently. He had to be put down eventually but this incident totally caught me off gaurd financially.
I have been back to the pound to look for another dog. The women are always friendly. The facility is clean and the animals look like they are comfortable.

This place has the audacity to put a PUREBRED BOXER up for adoption for less than 2 weeks and then kill him. And for what reason? Because he cornered someone? Big deal, he was scared, went from a home where you have no idea if he was mistreaded or not, and then he was put in a cage. You didnt give him a chance, I was calling to adopt him and obviously I was too late. I noticed under certain dogs' pics you have "act quickly"....is that an indication you are going to kill those particular animals? You have been reported to boxer rescues all over the East Coast and I've been told that these rescues have had problems with you before. You people are cruel and should not even classify yourselves as a humane society because what you did is beyond humane!!!!!

Obviously you know nothing about boxers or for that matter, you have no compassion for animals at all.....you're pathetic to say the least. I hope you go out of business because everything possible will be done to make sure animals are not brought to your facility.

THis shelter moved from a much needed area in Phila to
better settings in Bensalem.

It is a professionalyly run shelter, with animals for adoption. I found the help to be businesslike and able to answer questions.

IThe cats and dogs put up for adoption were presented nicely,
and clean.

PROS: have pets to adopt
CONS: kill shelter do not surrender there.
