I've moved around a lot, and have always returned to NYC for my haircuts and color. That all changed when I happened upon Charlie. He's the best for color AND cuts. The color is always natural, the cut subtle (as I like it). Though I'm pretty compulsive about my hair, I trust him entirely and at this point just leave it up to him to do what he thinks is best (full color/highlights, etc.) Charlie's sensitive, smart, and fun to talk with, too.
I loved Mallory and used to go to her all the time. I moved and recenlty came back to find out she was gone, I am so disappointed! Does anyone know where to find her, My hair needs her!
I went to Charlie salon after reading reviews on here. When I called to schedule an appointment, I spoke with Charlie. He seemed nice and told me he was going to take good care of my hair (I have very think hair). When I went to the salon, he ignored my needs and didn't even show me the color he put on my hair. He told me it was going to be a long process to dye my hair, but he did not tell me it would cost me 240 dollars...yes 240 DOLLARS FOR THE WORST HAIR COLOR EVER. My hair was black, brown, and BLONDE. I came in to get a caramel brown color, where the hell did the blonde come from? All together, I felt so uncomfortable in the salon.
Charlie is the most unprofessional hair stylist with the worst attitude I have ever witnessed. Please save your sanity and dont come here.
Cons: extremely mean, worst hair color ever
I have been going to Charlie Salon for over a year and have had nothing but wonderful experiences. I was referred to Mallory because I am a natural brunette and had always wanted to venture into a golden/highlighted look but was scared to look striped or unnatural. She listened to all of my ideas and looked at the pictures I brought and when the day was done, my hair was EXACTLY what I had wanted. I get stopped by friends and strangers asking where I get my hair colored!
Mallory is also wonderful for updos and special event styles...I competed in the Miss Philadelphia pageant about a month ago and she did such a fantastic job on my hair, all the other contestants asked where I had gotten it done. She showed me exactly how to curl it and tease it so the style would last all day. I can't thank her enough!
Pros: coloring, special event styles
Cons: none! unless you're parking and then you have to pay a mete
I was sad to say I called Charlie Salon and was informed Mia was no longer working at Charlies. I have found her. For all those that love Mia's styles and techniques (as much as I do). She can be located at :
Pileggi On The Square
7th and Walnut
Mia.....we will all be seeing you soon !!!
It was my first visit to Charlie Salon and I was very impressed. Everyone was very friendly and welcoming. It was like I was a long-time customer. The important thing, though, is the haircut. Charlie discussed with me what would be a good cut for my hair and we went with it. I absolutely adored what he did with it. I'm receiving nothing but compliments and "Who did your hair? I love it!"
I've had a lot of trouble finding a salon where the whole package is a perfect fit for me. I found it at Charlie Salon. They won't be getting rid of me anytime soon!
Pros: Skilled stylists, friendly staff, fun atmosphere, clean and bright salon
Walking into Charlie salon on a bad weather day was out of boredom. I was off from from work and decided to treat myself. I was shortly introduced to Mia, she was so cute and perky. Here I thought, just another stylist. But NO, Mia amazed me with her extensive product knowledge and many tips on what I can do for my hair at home. I was enthralled to see someone really care about their customer and not just rushing them out of her chair. I can't believe I never went to her before, Mia, you have me for life. I love my hair and I work in the area, so Mia, I will be coming back.
Pros: Great location, parking, friendly people, great music playing.
Cons: Salon needs a little sprucing up. Thats it
I only post a review when I feel that someone truly deserves the recognition! I'm new to Philly, just moved here from another large city where I was attached to my salon and hairstylist, so stepping into a new situation was tricky for me. I read some of the reviews about Charlie Salon and decided I wanted to try this stylist named Mia. First , Mia was warm and a had a friendly personality. Second, she took her time to listen to what I like, asked questions, and we arrived at a plan. Third, technically she was confident and creative. The end result was beyond what I was expecting or could have anticipated. I felt great ! It was so refreshing to experience something like this. Thank goodness for City Search and thank you, Mia!
Pros: Mia, good prices, easy to get to
Cons: salon is cute, but could use some work
I am not the kind of person who will go to a salon, I don't call for a specific stylist, I am fashion inept. I work in the city and I was in need of a haircut. I did what any person would do, I viewed citysearch. I checked out the reviews and decided to try them out. I mean how bad could they be right? I have been going to - I'll say it Hair Cuttery - so I thought I'd go for something better.
I walked in and felt like they wanted my attention and business. First class from the minute I walked in as everyone was very polite and gracious.
I was informed my stylist would be Mia (radiant in talent and personality), so I waited for her to finish her last client. She was informed I was waiting, ran over, apologized for being behind schedule and would be with me quickly.
When she was ready, Mia asked me what I do and just to get an idea of what she was working with. We briefly discussed what I wanted, and I just said to her, "Do what you think works." Her eyes lit up and went to work.
Fast forward to the end, I got a killer haircut, walking out feeling and looking good.
I finally understand why people will pick a stylist, and how their talent can make a huge difference. So for those in the know - you are already coming here and don't need my review. But, if you are looking for that extra something to give you a new look, drop in, and start your new year right.
Let me just start out by saying this? if you are within driving distance of Philadelphia and are looking for a great colorist, GO TO MALLORY!! I live in Washington, DC and have been searching up and down the East coast looking for someone to give me the perfect shade of blonde highlights. I heard about Mallory from a friend in the NYC area, who swore by her coloring techniques. From all the good things I?ve heard about her, I had to try her out myself. Every single word I?ve heard about her was true, plus more!!! Mallory has such an amazing eye for color. She really takes the time out to examine your skin and eye color in order to compliment them with the perfect shade for your hair. Mallory transformed my dull, ash blonde locks into warm, caramel-butterscotch tones. I?ve been going to some pricey salons in NYC for years, and I now that I?ve found Mallory, I will NEVER go back to them. I?ve never looked better in my life! Thanks Mallory! :)
I'm so thrilled to be able to tell my stylist what I would like done and have it done that way. For years I have dreaded going to salons and spending tons of money on cuts, colors and styles that are completely different from what I've asked for. Mallory took the time to really listen to what I wanted and did it. She was able to make suggestions that suited my look without being pushy or trying to change how I wanted to look to suit what she wanted to do. Not only am I exstatic about the results, but it was so comfortable and fun to spend time in her chair. After my first visit, I felt like I had finally found a salon that cares about what their customers want!
I'm so happy that I found this salon and a stylist named Mia!!!! I read some reviews and decided to give it a whirl. I made an appointment to get highlights and a haircut with Mia, and it was such a pleasant experience from the minute I called to the finish. Mia enhanced my natural hair color with soft golden blonde highlights and deepened with medium brown lowlights and not to mention one fabulous and functional style. She took the time to show me how to style my hair so it can always look good. I also love the hair products she suggested for me! Finally, some where I belong, thanx Mia and Charlie Salon!!!!!!!
Pros: friendliest place in center city, professional, and convient
This is my story .. i was going to a wedding and i need my hair done but i was afraid to go to the same people i had my last haircut n color cause they damage my hair ... but my friend from macys recommended me to go to Charlie Salon and to ask for Anthony ..... she told me that Anthony is very good in color and give the best haircut and to trust Charlie's stuff .. that they will take care of you ... So i went there .. she was right .. they knew what to do and they told me that right color the right cut ... when they were done i went to my friend in macys ... and she loved my new look ... i love it too .. thank you Anthony and thank you Charlie salon.
Pros: walk in customer
Cons: two thumbs up
For years, I have been searching for someone to color my hair with blonde highlights, adding dimension to my dull, brown hair. Whenever I would get my hair dyed, the stlyist would always get it wrong and my hair would be brassy until I went to Charlie's Salon and Mallory dyed my hair.
For starters, she took her time to get an idea of the color I wanted and simply by naming a model who's hair I adored, without a picture, she was able to replicate the color. She not only colored it perfectly, complimenting my olive complexion but she gave me beautiful blonde highlights without the brass. All the while, she took her time to make sure I was happy. (Sounds silly but I know many of you have experienced stylist that only wants to give you a style or color that THEY think is right for you). After my color and cut, I mentioned that I prefer my fine, limp hair to be curly and and full so she took her time to show me how to use the curling iron (for some us, this is a difficult task) and styled my hair, basically how I wish I could style my hair. I recommend Mallory to anyone who has bad experiences with dye jobs, or wants to liven up their hair with a fresh cut and style.
After searching for a salon and reading the positive reviews Mallory received on city search, I made an appointment with her for highlights. Just to set the record straight Mallory has lived up to absolutely every positive comment said on here. She is a very talented colorist with a great personality. She comes very HIGHLY recommended!!!!
I went in for a consultation not expecting too much. I just wanted highlights since thats what i usally get. I happened to get Zaneta and I not only recieved individual and personalized attention but her knowlegde of the product was remarkable. She pretty much painted a picture in my head of how the color and the style would be, and she delivered more then i expected. I would recomand anyone that wants an experianced colorist/styliest and unmached service to go to Charlies Salon and ask for Zaneta.
Being a brunette with the desire to be more of a blonde is not the easiest situation for a woman to deal with. For years, I tried to find the right color, the right salon, the right stylist and this was an agonizing and seemingly never-ending pursuit. This pursuit , however, ended with my discovery of Mallory Christiano and Charlie Salon. While talking with a close friend about the ongoing crisis that is my hair, I was recommended to visit Mallory at Charlie Salon. Though I am usually hesitant to try new salons (due to several bad experiences in the past), my hair situation had me on my last nerve and knew that I could use any help that I could get. I took the chance, made an appointment and sat down with Mallory. She patiently listened to my hair horror stories and the description of what I would like my hair to look like. The end result was amazing. The color was a great match to my skin tone and went well with my natural color. Mallory and Charlie Salon changed the attitude I had toward my hair and salons in general. Not only did I find a great stylist in Mallory, but someone who has a strong passion for her work and for pleasing her clientele. I strongly recommend making your next salon visit to Mallory at Charlie Salon, you will not be disappointed.
I love working with Mallory. She always knows what I need with my hair, and won't let me make bad decisions!!!
I was lucky enough to a have a friend recommend that I visit Mallory Christiano for my next color/cut when I was living in New York two years ago. Though Mallory worked at a high end and fairly pricey salon there, every penny I spent was well worth it. I continued to see her for a color update every 8-10 weeks thereafter. I was terribly disappointed when I heard she was re-locating to Philly, but I am now quite pleased given that my work has brought me to Philly as well. I immediately contacted Mallory (who is so personable and client-oriented that she shares her cell phone number with customers) and scheduled an appointment at Charlie Salon. Needless to say, Mallory used her highly skilled eye for color to determine the perfect shade for my skin tone. It's also important to note -- Charlie Salon is a great overall experience-- the space is bright, fun, and staffed by amiable professionals who exhibit genuine care and concern for their clientele. If you are looking for a top of the line hair stylist who (despite her prior experience in an exclusive salon in New York) will go above and beyond to ensure her clients receive the perfect color, then I strongly recommend Mallory Christiano at Charlie Salon.
Pros: expert hair colorist, atmosphere, flexibility, customer service
I have been to a lot of salon's in a lot of places, but through them all, my experience at Charlie was by far the best. I was referred to Mallory Christiano by one of my co-workers. I am very paricular about the color of my hair, therefore, I really trusted my co-worker's reference. Mallory was very thorough and knew exactly what I wanted when I came for me consultation. She gave me her honest opinion, yet many different color combinatons that I would like. Usually, I get very scared to look, however, the whole time Mallory was coloring my hair, I was so anxious. I, just like my co-worker, now refer everyone who is looking for a good, intelegent hair colorist to Mallory.
Pros: Great Location
I went into Charlie Salon as a new customer. I think the salon is so cute and in a great neighborhood. All I needed was a blo-dry. I only had to wait a few minutes which I thought for a center city salon without an appointment was amazing. I met Mia who did a superb job with my hard to manage curly hair. My blo dry was stunning and I loved it.
The entire staff was also very polite and everyone had smiles on their faces. Charlie Salon is an A+++ in my book.
Pros: great parking, cute atmosphere
I recently moved here from NYC and had been searching for a good salon to get my color done. I am an EXTERMLY picky person when it comes to my highlights...I decided to try Charlie Salon because it is open on Mondays. There i met Mallory, let me just say she is an absolute doll and she knows how to balyage!! My highlights NEVER looked so great!! The salon atmosphere was so fun and friendly which made me feel so comfortable! I will defintly be back!
Pros: great haircolor!
Cons: none that come to my mind!
I stopped into Charlie salon the other day just for a hair cut. Got my hair cut by Mia...she was incredible. Not only did she cut my hair exactly the way it should look, she taught me how to style it and keep it looking fresh. I also bought some products that she recommended. I will be going back to Charlie Salon to have my haircut done by Mia anytime, Im even thinking about getting some color done for the summer.
Mia is definitely an amazing stylist, I would send all my friends over to her.
Pros: Everything was great
Cons: No cons
I have been going to Mallarie to have my hair colored, highlighted, cut and styled for a very long time. Mallarie never seems to amaze me because she always listens. She is one of the most professional people that I have come accross in the industry. I know this because I myself am a licensed cosmetolgist...
I highly reccomend Mallarie because she is at her craft and extremly artistic. She is wonderful at what she does !!!
Kudos to you Mallarie...
I was referred to Mallory through a friend. I had my first appointment last Tuesday with her....and let me just say, I've NEVER had someone work such wonders on my hair!! Not only did she listen to what I had to say, but she gave me exactly what I wanted. The whole experience was fantastic!
Pros: Great staff
I WANT TO THANK EVERYONE FOR BEING LOYALE TO MY SALON FOR THE PAST 5 YEARS. THIS WAS A HARD DECISION TO MAKE BUT I SOLD IT. CHARLIE WAS THE RIGHT PERSON, HE WAS MY BEST EMPLOYEE I EVER HAD. WHILE I WANTED TO STAY WITH HIM, I WORKED IN RITTENHOUSE SQUARE FOR ALMOST 14 YEARS, AND MY CLIENTS ARE MOSTLY FROM THAT AREA. I WISH CHARLIE ALL THE SUCCESS IN THE WORLD.
I, HOWEVER, AM AT OGGI SALON & SPA LOCATED AT 1700 LOCUST (LOCUST & 17TH) 215-735-0707
I INVITE EVERYONE THAT CAME TO ME ON 12TH ST TO COOME TO ME AT OGGI. IT IS A FULL SERVICE SPA, IT'S AMAZING.
THANK YOU AGAIN FOR ALL THE SUPPORT, IT WAS A FUN 5 YEARS.
i had my first appointment with anthony the other night and let me tell u how amazing my hair color is. my blonde has never looked so HOT! the salon is very relaxing and has a boutique feeling to it. i highly recommend this salon for their lovely staff and amazing techniques!!!
I was going to Jon for seven years every month to get a cut. I consider myself a perfect customer: never been late, leave 15-25% tip, never complain if I had to wait, or haircut was not perfect. I brought to Jon 5 new customers. After all this years, I felt that Jon is my good friend. One day I decided to change a look: I wanted to get a blondish hair with a few highlights on, but keep it short. Jon told me that I need to stop dying hair for a while to cut off old red color. I stayed agley-gray-haired for 4 months, when Jon finally told me that I am ready to get a new color. When I came a week later, Jon wasn?t around, his assistant dye my hair with a new color. He showed up right on time for highlights and he looked through my hair and said that they are too short to use routine foil-based method, he rather use a brush to spread the bleach. Since professionally I am far away from hair-styling techniques, I trusted Jon. After bleaching, Jon?s assistant washed my hair, and I saw in the mirror instead of elegant look, a cheap prxxx from Broad street: dark routs and awfully yellow hair. I was shocked. Jon did not even bother to come. I waited for 10 min and went myself to him. In a very rude way he said that it is all my own fold since he told me that my hair are too short for highlighting. Assistant dyed hair to keep the old look, and when I went to pay, I find out that Jon was charging me price for color and highlights that he never accomplished. Emotionally, I felt like I was in the trashcan. I stay in tears for a week, not because of my look, but cause my friend betrayed me. Undoable, Jon is a very talented master, but it is also clear that he doesn?t care about his customers, I stopped going to Jon.
I went to Charlie to color my hair. After reading some of the reviews of Charlie I decided to make my first appointment. I have a fear about getting my hair colored because of bad experiences in the past. Charlie made me feel very comfortable. He has a lot of knowledge about color and knows a lot about the whole process. He doesn't just put on any color on your head and that's it. He really looks at your hair and consults with you on hair coloring. He is really great and I would recommend him to everyone. He did a really great job on my color. He had patience with me, which I value in Charlie. Everyone in the salon has great personalities. They are really fun in there. Overall, the salon is great, clean, bright, and airy. FABULOUS!!!!!!!!
Pros: Color, Blow-outs, Cut
I've been living in a fashion capital all my life, wondering what I was going to do with my hair once I'd have moved to Philadelphia. And then Jon Cristopher came along... I've been going to Jon for a few years now and for some good reasons. The highlights look natural!!! They're BEAUTIFUL. I have long bad quality hair. Jon always knows what to do with it. I don't tell him, I just trust him. And if I go to a party or a wedding he gets to get even more creative with updos and all sorts of hair creations that bring me compliments after compliments. He's also recommended (affordable!) products that changed my life! I can only say good things about the salon and the staff. Jon Christopher rocks!
Pros: friendly staff, color, highlights, hair cuts, products, hair creations!
I've gone to Charlie sevearl times and I must say that he does the absolute BEST blow-outs that I have EVER gotten. However, he did my color for the first time and I wasn't that impressed with it....it didn't look bad...it just wasn't great and wasn't what I wanted. His cuts was also average. I would go back there for the blow-outs and cuts, but not for color. However, the salon is so relaxed and comfortable and the stylists are SO friendly.
Pros: Friendly stylists, nice atmosphere, great blow-out
I went to Jon Christopher a week ago and got cut and color from Charlie. I have been getting so many compliments on my hair its actually boosted my confidence. He made the color EXACTLY what I asked for and cut it exactly what i wanted when i couldnt even decide. He made me feel younger and prettier. go to mr. charlie JUST TRY HIM...
Pros: Nice setting, timely , charlie great
After reading all of these reviews I decided to go to Charlie because I read great things, but the haircut he gave me was not that great. He also asked me to write a review after I was done and I told him that was the reason I came. I would have told him I didnt like it but it wasnt that bad, it just wasnt as good after I read all of these reviews.
Pros: He did get me right on time.
My mom's hair got messed up by her old stylist about a year ago (bad coloring), and, after reading reviews on citysearch, she decided to go to Jon Christopher. I must say it was a great decision: her hair looks beautiful, and Charlie and the rest of the staff are extremely welcoming. In fact, we love Charlie so much that we made him promise to come over to our house for a BBQ once it gets warmer. I have since started getting my hair cut by Charlie, and he does an amazing job. I love my cut, him, and the entire salon!
Pros: talented, friendly staff; location
Cons: We can't take Charlie home to do our hair every morning
I had my first appointment with Anthony a few nights ago and it was a great experience. The atmosphere is very relaxed and Anthony does his best to make you feel welcome and comfortable. We were chatting like old friends and yet it was only the first time I met him! I'm very pleased with my cut. He listened to what I wanted and gave me suggestions as well. I will definetly go back!
Pros: Great atmosphere, great staff!
I have been going to Jon for several years now and have the best color I have ever had. My hair is also the healthiest and longest it has been in a very long time due to his knowledge of color and hair care, as well as his amazing technique and skill. So many of my friends and co-workers now go to him because of the fantatstic job he has done on my hair. People are constantly asking me "who does your hair?" The staff is also incredibly friendly and provide excellent customer service. I highly recommednd Jon Christopher for all of your hair care needs!
I recently went to Jon Christopher and let me tell you my experience was excellent. First, when I called to make an appointment, they were very accommodating and were able to get me in the next day. I was seated in a timely fashion. The staff were very friendly and genuinely nice, not like some other stuck up salons throughout center city. But most importantly, my haircolor ( done by Anthony!!) came out georgeous!! This place is a keeper. (review by,Laura)
Pros: great colorist, use good color products
Cons: probably hard to find and expensive to park in center city
Don't know what to do with your hair, need an idea or just a change, Jon is the stylist to goto...I have never had a bad cut or color in the past 17 years that he has been doing my hair. I even lived in NYC and still came back to philly to get my hair done by Jon...
Pros: great atmosphere with friendly staff
I LOVE IT... I LOVE IT. I CAME TO SEE ANTHONY AFTER A DISASTER WITH MY HAIR FROM ANOTHER SALON. HE DID A BANGIN JOB WITH MY COLOR AND HIGHTLIGHTS AND TREATED ME WITH GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE....PLUS HE HAS THE GIFT OF GAB AND HE IS SMOKIN HOT. IF YOU WANT FABULOUS COLOR GO AND SEE ANTHONY AT JON CHRISTOPHER SALON. HE IS TRULY WONDERFUL.
I recently visited Jon Christopher and I love the fact that my stylist Charlie didn't keep me waiting, as soon as I walked in he was ready for me. He gave me a thorough consultation and an amazing shampoo. He gave me the exact haircut I wanted for a very long time. I felt completely pampered the whole time and my haircut was AMAZING. I couldnt wait to go out and show it off that night. I highly recommend Charlie and I look forward to going back again soon!
I was having a bad day ... went home shower .. once I was done .. I went for a coffee. but on the way to the coffee shop an I saw myself in the mirror, in one of those stores on South 12th street .. so I decide to get my hair did .. and I went to the salon, right on the same street, I walked in all stress and in need of a friend.... someone to chat too and to listen to me. and I met ANTHONY, great guy ... he took care of me, by the way .. he gave me the best customer service, shampoo, cut and hairstyle. Also I met the owner too, and the rest of the staff. Great People, so if YOU had a bad day at work and feel stress goes to Jon Christopher salon, they will treat you nice ... Thank you
PS. see you next weekend ANTHONY . ;-)
I'M GOING TO GET TO THE POINT , CHARLIE DID MY HAIR PERFECT AGAIN.
ALSO CHARLIE DID MY SISTER'S HAIR TO...SHE LOVE'S HER HAIR AS WELL.
THANK YOU CHARLIE.....
Pros: the salon is a delight
I went to Jon Christopher for the first time earlier today - the experience was horrible from the very first words the receptionist uttered as I scheduled my appointment. The receptionist was short with me, the haircut (with Charlie) was extremely rushed and sloppy. The hairline in the back was uneven, he cut my mole off with the shaver (my neck is still bleeding). And it was expensive - $48 for a ten minute haircut. Needless to say, it wasn't worth it.
This is my first review on City Search. I've worked with a few stylists there, since sometimes I have to book at the last minute. My hair is naturally very dark, and I have it lightened to blonde and highlights put in. I've been to a LOT of different hair salons -- goes without saying if you're going from very dark to blonde -- and these guys get it right every single time. Once I even had very bad roots from another salon, and they managed somehow to make the roots match -- no one else has ever done that: it's probably a mixture of luck and skill, but again, no one else seems to be able to get the roots to match without putting in copious highlights. The highlights always look no less than fabulous. I've seen a few other women in there getting blonde highlights also, and have been almost stunned at how good they look. I haven't caught any attitude there either. The atmosphere is nice. With some of the stylists, the process has taken four hours, but it was worth it. I am particularly missing this salon since I've moved.
Pros: great color which outweighs the cons
Cons: the color is priced on par with the other big salons, but here it's worth it
Recently, I had a color process go completely south at a nearby salon. Fortunately, I got lucky on the second attempt when I stopped into the Jon Christopher salon and was scheduled for a "corrective color" with Aja (pronounced "asia"). I cannot say enough about the wonderful job she did on my suffering doo! Now I LOVE my hair! And it was simply a bonus that the atmosphere was comfortable and easy going; the staff was VERY solicitous about my well being throughout the entire process and I left feeling like a million bucks. You MUST check this place out if you are looking for a salon. Ask for Aja and be sure to mention sonkistt sent you.
First of all, you're not supposed to fall in love with your hair stylist. With that in mind be careful when you visit Charlie. Like most people that I've read reviews from, I chose to go see Charlie because of all of the great reviews I read. I was not disappointed at all.
From the minute I walked in the door I felt as if I walked into my friends apartment. I was treated like a guest and we all began to have some of the best conversation I've had since I moved to Philadelphia. It really was that good.
My hair was botched really bad because I went to a location I'd rather not mention, and will try to forget, and Charlie was a great listener and an even better recommender. Charlie cared about my appearance as much as I did and made sure I left the salon looking and feeling great. I'll have to go back a few times over the next couple of weeks to get it totally fixed, but hey... it's an excuse to see Charlie!
Pros: Overall atmosphere, staff are AWESOME, price
Cons: Non that come to mind
I recently just moved into the city from the suburbs. I used to say i couldnt afford the city prices for hair, but now i realize its just worth it. Charlie gave me a great haircut and colored my hair just right. I was kind of apprehensive about getting my hair colored with someone new, because only one person could get it right in the past. However, Charlie has a lot of talent and made the color just perfect. I couldnt believe how friendly he was and how great the atmosphere in the salon was. His haircut and color are definitely worth the price!!!
In an attempt to grow my short, wavy hair out, I left my home town stylist in the burbs and went to a salon in the city. I went to a very expensive salon off South Street and got my hair cut and colored by the owner, figuring I needed someone with real expertise to get the job done. The first round was pretty bad, but I figured "hey, he's the owner he must know what he's doing", and he kept saying that it's not going to look how I want it while I grow it out. So after 5 weeks of unmanageable hair, I went back to him again. He highlighted my hair again, leaving an inch of root, and making it a different color from the first time, resulting in my hair being every color blond in the rainbow. And the cut was uneven and horrible. I looked online and found JC's salon had gotten great reviews. I went for a consultation with Charlie first to discuss how to correct the damage that was done. He was wonderful and professional. I went back yesterday and got a semi-permanent glaze to correct the color and he cut my hair back short (which was the only way to even it out), and I love it! Definitely go to Charlie, he was sensitive to my fears of making a bad situation worse, and made me feel completely at ease. Very talented, professional and sweet. Thanks Charlie!!!
(p.s. I'm not mentioning the name of the salon that screwed up my hair so badly because I called and complained, and they agreed to give me my money back, including the tip I left.)
Pros: friendly, welcoming staff; talented stylists; convenient location; Charlie
I just moved to Philly a couple of months ago and decided to get some highlights and a haircut today - I haven't gotten either in a year, mind you. Just by chance I happened upon Jon Christopher on Citysearch, and made an appointment with AJA. I didn't really have any expectations going in, but by the time I was done, I was blown away! Not only did she greet me with a friendly "hello" and warm smile, their entire staff was courteous and made me feel right at home. I was offered a beverage while I was waiting, and when I was done with it I was offered another one - it was almost as if I were being waited on, and AJA did an excellent job making sure I was happy and comfortable =) Furthermore, I was exceptionally pleased with my highlights and haircut as she gave me EXACTLY what I asked for. A lot of times my highlights are done too light or the color isn't right, and my hair is cut too short or the style I ask for isn't quite right. AJA got it all done PERFECTLY, and this was our first time meeting! She's the ultimate professional - just watch the way she handles her customers and you'll know what I'm talking about. She's confident, courteous, and really fun to talk to. AJA's an absolute doll!
Pros: Coloring, haircut, friendly staff.
Cons: It's sometimes hard to find parking around Center City.
I've had my hair cut and coloured by Charlie 6 times now, and every time has been fantastic. The salon itself is friendly and clean; I felt completely comfortable from the moment I first entered. I have a very round face, and Charlie always manages to give me an incredibly flattering cut. There's a reason why Charlie has so many positive reviews here: he's an absolute sweetheart and great guy who just happens to give the best cut and colour in the city. I can't recommend him highly enough.
