Being in the area recently on a chilly rainy day and hearing about this restaurant for years, we decided to give it a try. They have a sign in front advertising "The world's best coffee" I was cold and tired and that sounded good to me, but the coffee was weak and we had to wait as they had to make some. Oh well. We ordered lunch which was so-so. My nephew ordered mac and cheese and it was Kraft's from a box! I wouldn't return.

I founded, built & opened my 20ac garden center & nursery - John Shelley's Garden Center & Nursery - in Winterstown, just north of Stewartstown, 19yrs ago, and used to eat breakfast 3-4x/ week at The Taylor Haus, for years.

Those were some great breakfasts! And they still are I'm told (it's packed on Sundays), and with the change in ownership, they've maintained and/or increased the food quality & portions.

The waitresses on the lunch shift are two of the nicest, most attentive ladies I can remember. Typical York Cty sweeties: "How ya doin', hon? Can I get you anything else?" LOL!

These winter days, I mostly go for lunch w/ friends, customers or business associates, and the food and service is wonderful. The crab soup is to die for! It's more like a stew and probably the best I've ever had. The roast beef sandwich and 'gravy fries' are two meals unto themselves, for me. The cheeseburger & fries beat anything, anywhere else. Only eating there 2-3x/ month, and it'll take me several more months to get thru the *lunch menu*, but I'm working on it.

I need to get down there and have some current breakfasts, since the last ones I had were way back in the late-90s. I'm going to go for some "winter morning breakfasts" in February/March, with their "legendary coffee", and post some more reviews, here. Or just get some "take-out" breakfasts, and go back to the garden center & nursery to eat, before opening at 10am (winter hours).

I remember the stacks of huge pancakes, butter & syrup, waffles & gravy, sausage, bacon, fried ham steaks, biscuits & gravy, homefries... mmmmmm, so much "comfort food" that it'll almost remind you of ***home, way back when***.

This is genuine home cooking, as if you were in a hunter's camp having a sumptous pre-hunting, all-you-can-eat, stuff-you-to-the-gills, meal. Does anyone else remember a "Hunter's Breakfast"?

More to come...
