Davio's is a stylish, up-scale northern Italian steakhouse located on the second floor in the historic Provident Bank Building just off of fashionable Rittenhouse Row. While serving their specialities: prime dry-aged steaks, Provimi rib veal chop and cutting-edge Northern Italian Cuisine, they also feature homemade pastas, fresh-baked goods and European cheese plate. Best of Philly 2000--Philadelphia Magazine Award of Excellence 2001, 2002, 2003--Wine Spectator Magazine

Editorial by Citysearch

The Scene
The official restaurant of the Club Quarters hotel (and part of a Northeast mini-chain), Davio's occupies a second-story space that once held a bank office. The restaurant has exchanged the staid cubicles for an airy dining room bathed in beige and cream hues and accented by dark hardwood floors. Private party rooms and an outdoor terrace offer additional seating on the penthouse level.

The Food
The northern Italian cuisine is uniformly inventive and consistent, made more enjoyable by the impeccable, knowledgeable service. Calamari frito combines squid with fried strips of onion and fennel and a sweet-mustard sauce; chicken livers are exquisitely sauteed with dried cherries, pine nuts and a balsamic reduction. Entrees, which include fresh pastas, dry-aged steak and a velvety grilled salmon deftly paired with almond risotto, succeed uniformly. Desserts are equally stunning, particularly a pineapple-studded pound cake with homemade coconut ice cream.

  • Outdoor Terrace
  • Banquet Rooms

The Inside Scoop

  1. Happy Hour - Don't feel like cooking after work? From 5pm to 7pm during weekdays, only 5 dollar martinis with complimentary pizza.

Had a great dining experience here. Food was excellent (northern Italian), service attentive but not over the top, atmosphere intimate. Great for a an outing as a couple or with a group. A little expensive but worth it.

Great for corporate events...

by Heather S. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 5,332

My company booked the top floor of the Davio's building for a corporate event this spring. We did a three course meal with wine pairings, and it was a smash success. The wines were fantastic, as was the food and the service. There's a roof deck where you can have guests mingle outdoors, which is great when the weather's nice. This is a pricey place, but we were quite happy with how they pulled off our event.

Not what I expected

by Kim S. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 128

I expected a first class meal dining in this establishment, but I wasn't impressed. The ambiance was nice, the staff was dull and boring and not the best (but not horrible either). Food was just OK, I wasn't wowed by anything we ordered.

ok, but over-rated

by Natalie F. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 8,185

I was expecting great things based on reviews I had seen in magazines, etc. It was ok, but definitely not worth the price. The service was fair- even slightly annoying. The main courses were fair, nothing particularly special or unique. And the side dishes were completely uninspired.
The wine list was decent, but again, over priced.

after wedding brunch

by lyn atkinson

Rebecca arranged for a Sunday brunch after my daughters wedding. The wedding was at the Chestnut Club and we stayed at Club Quarters. The brunch was upstairs in Davio's private room (beautiful) From the "fresh squeezed" orange juice, fresh fruit, eggs, bacon, potatoes (amazing), pastries, etc., it was just incredible. The staff was so friendly and attentive. I couldn't have asked for a better way to end a perfect wedding. Thank you all so much.

Pros: wonderful

Cons: none

Poor Service and Mediocre Food

by oharatudor

My mom and I were staying in the Club Quarters hotel attached to this restaurant a week ago and decided to have a meal at Davio's. Reading the reviews we were ready to have a great meal. However, our evening began with a waiter telling us "Bread is in the oven for you." and after a couple of minutes having a basket of cold bread put on our table. We then ordered two different appetizers- a salad and their signature dish - Phillie Cheese Steak Spring Rolls. The salad was listed as having green beans in it- there was one- and the spring rolls would have been a perfect addition to the menu at FRIDAYS. We had two different pastas - Tagliatelle Bolognese which was served with approximately two pounds of meat some of it ground and some of it not and overall a dry and unappetizing texture, and Torchietti, Chopped Clams, Artichokes, Fresh Arugula for $25. This is a lot of money for pasta and clams so I expected the dish to be amazing- the artichokes tasted like they came out of a jar and there was about $3 worth of clams in the dish. Not to mention that the added shredded carrots to the dish, I am guessing for color, which did not add to the taste.

This restaurant was a waste of a meal, not to mention a huge dent in our pocket book.

Cons: Over priced mediocre food

Disappointed

by perfume

We went with friends to Davio's on restaurant week, expecting wonderful food, etc. as we had heard so many good reviews about it. We were very disappointed. First, the restaurant was very noisy and the waiter was very loud. The food was mediocre and the portions were small. We assumed the smaller portions because it was restaurant week. We found Davio's not a good value for the money, as it is pricey. We would not go again.

a well oiled machine

by piscesdrowning

so a friend works near this place and frequents the happy hour. he said we have to go to davio's. i parked for $9.50 in a garage around the corner for which they validate the parking. the host greeted us with a genuine smile and professional anticipation. we sat down and the server was a kind of welcoming that made us think i was in his own home. every ingredient on the menu was the best on the market. it was pricey but valuable. the service was seamless. the food was the best of it's kind. and then this tall, blonde manager came to our table. he talked to us about what we were up to and how we found out about davio's. while he was talking to us i realized for the first time a restaurant truely made us feel like we were the most important people there. we are out for dinner once a week and now look forward to davio's atleast once a month.

Great dinner

by fastdriver

My fiancee and I recently had dinner at Davio?s. She kept asking me to take her there?she had heard so many good things from her coworkers. We had an amazing dinner, our steaks were perfect as was the tiramisu and service. I have been to many good steakhouses in Philadelphia and Davio?s is now at the top of my list.

Best steak in the City...Best Pasta.. Amazing Service.. Great Atmosphere

by justahalp

Eight of us just dined at Davio's Northern Italian Steakhouse on Saturday. This is not the first time we have eaten there. It is our favorite place to go to. The Steaks are bar none the best you can find anywhere. Not only are the steaks great but the pasta is delicious. We had, as usual, amazing service. The minute we walked in the door the manager recognized us and addressed us by name. how great is that! The service was superb.. why go to anyother steakhouse in this city..
I would recommend Davio's to everyone..It is romantic but can also accommodate larger numbers of people.. LOVE IT!

Great Sommelier - But the Food I could pass on

by ahms

My husband and I are foodies - we live in NYC but travel to other cities and go out to dinner often. This was our second time in Phili and have yet to be pleased. The atmosphere at Davio is warm and inviting (watch the slick floor if you are wearing heals). One of our two waiters was quite nice and knowledgable and the recommendation by the sommelier was spot on; I have rarely had such a well described bottle of wine live up to the description. But I would pass on the food. Having gone to many great steak houses I have high expectations. But to be charged $50 bucks for a bone in steak and have it taste like char and be extremely overcooked was suprising. I dont mind paying for good food, in fact its how we spend our hard earned cash. But this was just average. Maybe the Italian dishes were better, if so they should not bill themselves as an Italian style steak house. Your money would be better spent across Rittenhouse square at either Smith and Wolensky or Mortons.

Pros: beautif atmosphere and great sommelier

Cons: the meat had no flavor

The place is great, the food was sensational and the service impeccable-what else is there to say!
We all met here after our "Day in Heaven" and Davios really went all out to help us make this such a special day. It is not so often that 12 women can all voice their opinions and say that this was a wonderful meal.

Pros: great food,service and ambiance

Wonderful Service, Delicious Food, and a Knowledgeable Sommelier!

by hubriis

We enjoyed dinner at Davio's on Saturday February 24th. The restaurant was located just two blocks down from our hotel, and was perfectly located for us. The dining room of the restaurant is located in a former bank, and the second-floor location revealed a huge open area with high ceilings yet was somehow still quite cozy.

We had a wonderful, knowledgeable sommelier and our server was terrific. Attentive, but not hovering. Instead of the usual bred prior to dinner, we were presented with a lovely array of fresh ricotta cheese, marinated mushrooms and olives. That in itself would have been a lovely feast! We started with salad; I enjoyed a Caesar presented with full romaine leaves intact and fresh anchovy. It was quite good, but nothing extraordinary.

Davio's is known for their beef, so I went with a filet mignon. It was seared perfectly crisp on the outside and yet was warm, flavorful, and melt-in-your-mouth on the inside. I ate the entire thing with relish.

Dessert was tiramisu; it was better-than-average but I LOVE tiramisu and have tried it almost everywhere so I am a bit spoiled. It was good, but not worth sacrificing my first-born for.

Overall, I would highly recommend Davio?s to anyone looking for a great steak in the Philadelphia area. I will be back next year!

Pros: Wonderful Servers and Sommelier, Gorgeous Architecture

Impeccable Meal!

by chrism425

We were visiting Philadelphia for the first time, Davio's was recommended by our hotel staff. Service was wonderful. Food was wonderful, wine list truly amazing. The deserts to die for!! We enjoyed it so much we returned before leaving! (We were only in Philadelphia for 3 days!!) Wait staff very knowledgeable about the wine, all recommendations were right on. Would travel back to Philadelphia just to eat at Davio's!! Only drawback, our second visit was earlier in the evening, there were more people in the restaurant, and because of the high ceilings, it was a little noisy, but we could still carry on a conversation.

Pros: wait staff, wine list, desert

Cons: a little noisy

Cold food

by je891

Cold food and rude service. I didn't know the server was doing me a favor by waiting on me. I could have written a book by the time dinner was over ( 3 hours for 3 courses). I like to dine but a salad shouldn't take a half an hour to come out. The steak was cold. By that time I wanted to leave.

Pros: Nice atmospehere

Cons: Bad service, cold food

I recently attended a dinner with my company in a private room on the Penthouse floor of Davio's. Our experience at Davio's was unlike most experiences we have when dining in a large group. The food was nice and hot, the portions large, service superb and friendly. And after a long day of meetings, a swift and smooth dinner is tough to find. I highly recommend anyone looking for a great private space, call Davio's.

SLOW and INEFFICIENT

by kef

We were there 6/03. This restaurant is the worst we have ever been to, in terms of service. After ordering, the salad took an hour to come. The main couse took another hour after reminding them continuously. We should have realized that it would have taken them another hour to get us dessert. We ordered Tiramisu, ours never came until we called the manager to complain, then it came immediately!!
Will never go there again!

Pros: none

Cons: inefficient, not worth the money, so so food

Great place for steak!!

by ABIRUKOFF

This restaurant is in a very interesting location. The old Provident Trust building on 17th & Chestnut. The restaurant is on the Mezzanine which was used in its heyday as the location for Porvident's Trust customers to congregate, meet their Trust officers and generally be entertained by their "Trust" Bank.

Now for the food - it is very good italian fare.

Higly recommend it

Meaty Italian

by princessww

Davios is a gorgeous restaurant. The food was good and the portions were big but the service as others mentioned was definatly cold.

The wine list was very overpriced! Since I was the only one having wine I ordered by the glass. Not a good selection at all. The waiter was a bit chilly about not getting a bottle order also.

Veal was very tender and the speghetti bolagnese was so thick with meat!

Although it was good I think there might be better places for the money? Not truely dissappointed but just not overwhelmed.

Pros: beautiful room

Cons: service very stuffy

Hidden Treasure!

by rogue411

Attention steak lovers! Are you underwhelmed by the plethora of corporate chain steakhouses you may have dined at in this city? I sure know I was. Luckily a friend told me about Davios. I live in the city, and passed that restaurant hundreds of times without realizing it was there. Superb! So next time your looking to dine on walnut street, do yourself a favor and take a slight detour to 17th and samson. You'll be glad you did:)

Pros: extensive wine list, attentive service, great atmosphere

Cons: noisey when crowded
