I have to admit that I have never had a good time in a bar, but when we got here last Saturday, I was completely blown away how generous and amazing people in a bar can be.

Very nice and the food was very good. However elbow room, just a little tight for my taste.

Went there by myself the other night and was made to feel welcome and comfortable. Sat at the bar and watched in awe as the bar tender made drinks for waitresses as well as the bar patrons. She didn't mess up any orders and just kept

I went to Moriarty's for a drink one day while me and my boyfriend were walking in the city. The place looked really cool from the outside and better on the inside. I loved the lamps and all the memorabilia from shows that have played at the walnut theater. They had a pretty good beer selection and the bartender Jennifer was great. We got the wings because we heard they were the best in Philly; they were pretty good and the blue cheese dressing was delicious! The sauce wasn't overbearing it was just right. It was also cool that they use the whole wing. I have never seen that before but I liked the presentation. All in all I would defiantly go to Moriarty's again. It has a very comfortable atmosphere.

First time at Moriarity's on 2/11/11. Had to get the wings since they were voted the best of Philly. I'm guessing that Philly doesn't know what good wings taste like. This viegar based sauce served on a whole wings was just awful. You will need to come to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton area to taste real wings. Also a turn off at the place was the waitress Denise. She berated the 2 people next to use for not leaving her a 'decent' tip. She told them if they don't have enought money to tip well not to go out to dinner. Well after we received our food we never saw Denise again. We had to stop her to get our check. Same with the table next to us. I wish the employers would stop paying such lousy hourly rates and not depending on the customers to pay their salaries. I think this has gotten out of hand. To me such a waitress shouldn't be eaiting on the public.

Best happy hour in Philly!

Love the beer selection and the wings, don't think I need to add anymore to that.

If you are going to be in Center City and want a drink, this is the place to be.

Thank you!

Moriarty's truly has the best wings in Philly! They have tons of beers on tap and the atmosphere is great. They have an amazing happy hour- $3 drafts- and service is always great. If you are for a great local spot, look no further. Moriarty's is the BEST!!!

so my girlfriend and I decided to go to Moriarty's for lunch because we heard that it is a great place to eat and have drinks for a reasonable price. Well we were not expecting our visit to be a day from hell!
As soon as we walked in we were un-welcomed by the hostess and server who were too engaged in their conversation to stop and greet us. Finally after standing there for a few minutes in an empty restaurant we were sat. Our server did not bother to tell us her name (petite older women with long brown/grey hair) and looked annoyed as she yelled out the specials. She messed up our order and brought my girlfriend the wrong burger. When she tried explaining that she did not order that our server tried to argue and explain that "she was not in the wrong b/c she wrote it down." As we were eating our food our server was then yelling at her co-worker about work related issues which became so uncomfortable to listen to. Even the table across from us looked shocked and shook their heads. I give credit to this girl for keeping her cool and not raising her voice as she got barked at. I understand that we all have bad days but one should not be working in the service industry if they cannot separate their professional and private life.
To make matters worse even the manager displayed un-professionalism when he came down hard on another server for not cleaning her table "fast enough" in his eyes. I mean to talk down to your employee who was clearly trying to work hard despite the negative atmosphere is just sad. Its not what you say it?s how you say it- and this guy was just plain miserable.
I will never come here again! The food is okay but not worth spending money at a place that clearly does not appreciate it. People save a trip unless u want to spend an hour in hell.

I came here a few times with clients when i was in town for conventions. The drinks are very reasonable compared to most places. The bartenders are very friendly and knowledgeable. This is a true Irish bar, i will continue coming here after those long meetings

My girlfriends and I were in the other night before a show at the Walnut theater. We usually stop in here before going to the theater.
We were greeted by a sweet server who helped us choose beers from their large selection. (Their drafts are $3 during happy hour--why not try one?)
Our food came out pretty fast and everything was good. I had the quiche of the day and the french onion soup. Very tasty.
We had dessert, which was fantastic. The bread pudding is to die for. Served hot with whipped cream and some kind of gooey sauce. I was disappointed to find out that they didn't have the cheesecake that I always get. Bring it back!
Overall, great atmosphere and great food.

We had tickets to a show at the Forrest and thought Moriarty's would be convenient. We had stopped there once before and had a bad experience, but thought we would give it another try. First, the two hostesses were rude and seemed too busy to do their job graciously. The one hurried my husband and I off to a high table by the bar. I can't do those hang-your-legs tables...I'm old. I guess I should be flattered that she thought I could get up in the chair, much less survive my dinner hanging there. When we asked for a different table, she displayed some annoyed attitude and dismissed us to a small table next to the aisle by the bar. We ordered drinks, water, salads and entrees. The drinks came in good time. Our entrees came surprisingly quickly, but before the salads. When we reminded her of the salads, they arrived, but the table was too small to fit them...they sorta hung off the table into the aisle. People going by kept brushing them. Twice the busboy tried to take them before we were finished. I started holding on to mine with one hand, in defense of passer-bys and the busboy. Then our water finally arrived. My husband had the smallest two crabcakes that I have ever seen. He said they were, "OK." My fish and chips were "OK" as well. When we were finally finished, the server seemed disappointed that we also wanted coffee. An urgency to get us on our way seemed to surrounded us. We surrendered! Paid the check, and welcomed the quiet noise of Walnut Street. Our second chance visit will be our last. PS I'm pretty easy to please and this is my only review ever written, but I thought I should give a heads up to other season ticket holders.

went 1st time w/friends from the hospital for some muchies & a drink or two--bad choice.
we were first @ the bar & bartender got the orders wrong. So we decided to try a table hoping that would be better--bad choice. we ended up under a speaker that was both loud & had a tinny sound. server was more interested in trying to score w/somebody at another table, so we were ignored unless we spoke up loudly. when the food came--ugh, should have sent it back. nobody had ordered the same thing, but none of it was good.

Cons: service-food-noise

I couldn't get a dinner order placed as the lone bartender was busy filling drinks- then she got the food order wrong and then the food was wilted and poorly done. Her customer service was blatantly absent and she kept correcting the wait staff in a very stern manner in front of the customer.

Moriarty's has a great neighborhood bar/restaurant feel to it. Just as important, if not more, the pub grub is really good(wings, etc.). Also, if you want a great draft beer selection(with a couple of Belgians on tap), this is the place. Very good service too.

Entered the restaurant, was asked if we wanted to sit at a tiny table, squished in a corner... not sure what the alternative was. We had a speaker directly overhead and the music was LOUD. We asked the waitress if the music could be turned down - to her credit, she did ask someone, but was told no. It took a long time for the wings to come out, and, honestly, they weren't too bad. Certainly wouldn't call them the best in the city, though. Dinner arrived - the Shepard's Pie was inedible. I sent it back nearly untouched, and the waitress never asked why I hadn't eaten any of it. She left us with our bill for 15 minutes - I finally took it to the bar, but the bartender refused to take it. Another waitress took the check and tried to ring it up. She said my card was no good... turns out the swipe thing was broken! AWFUL experience!

I went here twice in one week. First time - impressed by the average food for a pretty cheap and convenient happy hour....ok, that was nice. So I went back with a friend a few days later.

Second time I went --- mysteriously the waitress demanded my ID for collateral for my friend and I (which are very unpretentious late 30 something women) to eat outside - and have beers OUT FRONT....? during happy hour. I could understand if I looked like a drunken teenager...but why all of the sudden THIS time?

rules are rules --- but it was shadey...then she was impossible to track down for drink refills and the check...

note to management --- keep your rules, drink prices, and service consistent - it reeks of being unprofessional otherwise...there is TOO much competition on this street for that nonsense.

Ps - Irish pub never asked for my id....?!

They have a good selection of beers on tap with a nice happy hour for beers. The food is average- canned mushrooms on the burgers. Canned enchilada sauce without much flavor on the Mexican. . Service was good and quick and staff generally pleasant. . Nice atmosphere.

Looked for days on Citysearch to find the perfect place for some family and friends to meet. Wanted a place with decent food, service, beers, ambiance, and above all, wanted to feel comfortable and relaxed. After reading many reviews, settled on Moriarty's and it did not disappoint! First I called the restaurant with a couple of questions and the girl that answered the phone was very pleasant and helpful. Explained what I was looking for in seating and she was happy to oblige. Making a reservation about an hour before our arrival was not a problem either. When we first got there I loved the feeling of the place. Cozy, not cramped. Busy, not loud. The person I spoke to on the phone greeted us, and let us know it would be a few minutes until they could seat us (that was fine, we were a tad early). When she did seat us, it was to a booth where the table moved. If you have ever sat at a booth where the table did not move, you'll understand why this is appreciated. The skinny's could move it closer and the not so skinny's were given more room. Then there was the service. Our server was great. On top of things but not always interrupting, very helpful with the menu also. Only 2 small things bothered me. She didn't give her name, and didn't smile much. But that didn't detract from the very good service she gave us. The food: tried the wings per other reviews and while the were very good, I can't say they were the BEST I've ever had. I also didn't like the very thin blue cheese "sauce" served on the side. Taste was good, but like it thicker. 2 of us ordered the burger with blue cheese and bacon and from the way it read on the menu, we expected a pile of bc crumbles on top. Nope, only the thin sauce on the side. That was the only real disappointment though. Our burgers were cooked exactly as we asked (med and mr). The salmon and shepard's pie were excellent. All in all, can't wait to go back. Won't wait for a visit from family next time!!

I have eaten wings at nearly every bar in center city Philadelphia, and in hundreds of restaurants and bars in the US. Moriarty's wings are the best I've ever eaten. The service is excellent and the beers on tap are diverse and reasonably priced. If you're in town for a show or a game, definitely stop in. If you live in NE Philly, make the trip. Nothing up in Mayfair or Tacony compares to this.

They really do live up to their reputation on the hot wings. I ordered them being hungry, expecting them to be par for the course. I was wrong. They were the best wings I have had to date anywhere. The portion was huge also. Their beer selection is outstanding in a town full of bars with great beer. It gets very crowded, ttry to get in early for food ( 6 ), later for bar life. Highly recommended, a pleasant surprise that surpassed my expectations.

Cons: can get crowded

Love the big juicy burgers and the fun atmosphere. Can be a little noisy and crowded, but that's its charm. Good prices, good food, decent portions. Wish they'd lose the trendy new sidewalk cafe - sidewalk is way too narrow for the tables, and that "side street" is just a glorified alley.

This is a great stop for a hot meal and a "Smithwicks" before going to the theatre. I enjoy the nightly special menu so much that I seldom get to the regular menu. This has a warm, friendly atmosphere. Make a reservation if you have theatre tickets. Many people like to make this part of their night out in Philadelphia for dinner and a show. Have an Irish coffee!

If you are on your way to the Walnut Street Theatre this is a great place to get a bite to eat. It is very upscale bar/tavern food with personality. If you are a beer drinker this is a good place to get something good on draft. Lots of activity and noisey but in a fun city sort of way. Good place to hang out with friends too. I had burritos and they were yummy. I will go back.

Cozy, dimly lit place. Irish fare without attitude; waitstaff are so down-to-earth. Food is great (especially he appetizers) and not overpriced. It is always relatively easy to get a seat at the bar. If you come with a group, staff are happy to accomodate and seat you as soon as possible.

This is a very chill place that can be a little loud. They have a ton of beer on tap and a large menu. I went when it was packed, had a 1/2 hour wait, yet the food came out in a flash. The food is great. It's in a great location. I would go back often.

I am slightly hesitant to write a good review for Moriarty's, because I don't want you to steal my seat at the bar! This is a wonderful homey place that is great for it's wide variety of beers and menu choices. (Irish soup is my favorite.) They serve Philly's best wings, awesome traditional Irish cuisine, but steer clear of the Mexican food section... you could do better, it's very generic. (Sorry guys:)

We visit this place all the time. Love the food. The wings are the best we've had in Philly.
The barstaff is very friendly as well.

I've read a few of the reviews here that say Moriarty's is no good, but I live right down the street and I'd rather spend my hard earned cash on good food (like Moriarty's huge array of Mexican, American, and Irish food) and good people(the owners of the restuarant are very hands-on). I attended their annual New Year's Eve bash and it was AMAZING! The food, the drinks, and the music were great. They have a second floor bar is which actually really nice since it's non-smoking. Overall, Moriart's is always on my favorite's list.

My girlfriend and I happened to be in the area and stopped into Moriarty's just because the menu looked interested. We were pleasantly surprised. The food was excellent. The chips for the chips and salsa side order were very good, although the salsa was probably supermarket quality. I had the corned beef special sandwich (corned beef, cole slaw and russian dressing on rye bread) which was fantastic, although I wish it was a little bigger. My girlfriend had the chicken chimichanga which she thoroughly enjoyed. We were both very satisfied with our time at Moriarty's and would definitely go back. Only complaint is that outside the restaurant they advertised non-smoking sections on 2nd and 3rd floors, but when we got in, we were told that only place we can sit is on the first floor where smoking is allowed.

Just wanted to say, in case she reads these!, that we loved our server...I think her name was Yvonne - pretty Irish girl. So nice to go to an Irish pub with a real Irish server. She was fantastic and made the experience so much fun!! My husband and I were there a month or so ago and hope to return soon and see you again.

I discovered this bar far too late in my business assignment stay in Philly. Once I did discover it, I haven't been able to let a week pass without a plate full of their out-of-this-world wings. Only order a small: 10 whole wings. I often return a second night for the french dip. They have a huge selection of great beers; only the fussiest would not find a suitable selection.

I also have never been in here but what I get involved in great conversation. Service isn't perfect, but they have so many to serve I don't see how it could be much better.

I've been going to Moriarty's off and on for years. It's all about the wings. They are the best in the city. Be sure to have a cold pint of beer ready when they get to your table. This place will probably have a brew you like. The portions are generous making it worth the $8.00 for a large order. When seated try to get a booth or be prepared to knock elbows with other tables. They pack 'em in here. If someone passes out, you might get a stool at the bar.

This is not a great restaurant. What this is, is a relaxing pub people who live nearby will return to time after time to unwind and enjoy the company of their fellow man (or woman). I think that Philadelphians are spoiled by the wonderful and relaxing pubs in their city. Move elsewhere, and you will wish that there were a Moriarty's in your new home, but there won't be. Objectively speaking, it has an excellent selection of beer. Background is not too loud and I have had many important conversations here. Bar standards are fine.

The food is good; however there are some things that need improvement: staff needs to be much more flexible with special requests and get orders right the first time; second, they need to be more flexible when it comes to seating and section requests; currently they are very difficult with it comes to this. They should take a lesson from Cavanaugh's in University City.

My wife and I tried this place after hearing that the buffalo wings were the best in town. We were not disappointed - the wings were delicious, just the right amount of heat, and you get 10 whole wings for only 7.99. There are many beers
