Reviews for High Tech Hair Studio And Spa

I was new to the salon on saturday Oct. 13; I was a little nervous going after reading all the below reviews; I was referred by a coworker to go to Lisa V for my haircut. I was told that she was "the best" and was worthe the price...so i went and LOVED it. I have not loved my hair this much in a very long time. I cannot wait to go back for my next trim. Also, they had a cute little boutique and spa that I am going to be checking out. I definately recomment this to anyone interested!

Ratings_icons High Tech Hair Studio And Spa is HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!

Lenia Z.

Dont go here. Expensive and operators don't know what there doing. Lisa cut my hair. I went based on the TV show thinking this was a cutting edge salon. My hair is chopped....and on top of it. They push products and styling tools. BEAWARE unless you are a rocker and dont mind hacked off hair!

Ratings_icons High Tech Hair Studio And Spa is worth the money!

I absolutely think you get your money's worth. I have been going there for over 10 years and have never left unhappy. I think it's important to go in knowing what you. However, many times I have walked in and said "I trust you". And I walk out glowing. I think it's important to remember when going to a salon that those pampering you are doing the best job they can. And a great one at that!

Ratings_icons High Tech Hair Studio And Spa is expensive and crap

I asked for one of the best colorist available and was recommended to go to Lisa, I told her my other hairstylist made my hair reddish blond,a nd I didn't like the red color. She assured me it would not be red. &275 dollars later, it was redish tint. I will never go back to the salon. Many great stylist and colorsist have left ove the years working there annd you have to wonder why that is.DO NOT GO THERE, IS IT EXPENSIVE AND YOU DO NOT GET YOUR MONEY'S WORTHzerooooo stars,

Ratings_icons THE SALON IS FRIENDLY & OPTIONALLY FLAT-FOOTED!!

Chris M.

First of all, if you've seen HIGH TECH HAIR on "SPLIT ENDS" on Style network, some of it was strictly show biz...like wearing high heels all day. The producers put that little schtick in there for effect. The girls can wear their shoes of preference, even sandals in summer, with the cutest pedicures imaginable!
Okay, now that that's out of the way, I'm a former refugee from a chain hair salon and discovered High Tech from the "Split Ends" episode. I'm chubby and in my sixties and admit I felt a little intimidated on my first visit to High Tech, because I already knew the staff was sharp-looking and with-it and I thought the environment might be more like "snob haven". However Lisa, the owner (the "Elvira" of an earlier review), greeted me like a long lost friend. She's a genuinely nice, funny lady who made me feel right at home and saw to it that I would look amazing by taking on the job herself. I'm hardly the "contemporary modern", but I'm not ready to turn into a permed, gray-haired granny just yet! It was wonderful feeling relaxed and being pampered and fussed over. Lisa took my face-shape and natural coloring into consideration when deciding on the hair shade and cut, and managed to make me look - and feel - classy and young, without looking ridiculous (like some old geezer trying to be 22). I WAS THRILLED!! She also gave me credit for a free make-over on the cosmetics side of the business. My husband was so impressed with my look, he decided I should celebrate and took me out to dinner that night!
Brooke is now my regular stylist and I am always happy and sassy when she's finished with me. Brooke is gorgeous; hip and professional and friendly as a puppy, and we always have a good time. She also has offered subtle changes and suggestions, and she's always been right.
The place is always immaculate. Lisa indeed is in charge of her salon, and oversees everything. As far as I know, she doesn't allow anyone to leave her salon unhappy.
The shampoo chairs lean back with a foot rest like a lounger, which really saves the back and neck. There is a professional shampoo girl, and shampooing has become more of a religious experience. When you come down to it, High Tech is not that much pricier than some other salons and it's worth the extra pennies knowing you'll emerge lookin' like some fine fox!!
The salon also offers special hair products...I like natural products when possible. I mentioned this in passing to Brooke and Lisa, and darned if the next time I was in, there were vegan/vegetarian products for sale! The salon also offers facials, manicures, pedicures, and upscale, beautiful cosmetics and make-overs. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND HIGH TECH HAIR - AND YES, THIS IS PHILLY - IN THE GREATER FAR NORTHEAST!

Ratings_icons MARY IS DA BOMB

STACEY P.

Whatever you do, DO NOT AVOID MARY! Not only is she the best hairdresser I have ever had but she's a riot! She's always really funny and puts you in a good mood even when you're not! Her techniques are very HIGH TECH. I have been living in NEW YORK for the past 6 yrs and I have to say that I have still never had anyone that compares to Mary. I am so glad that she's back.

this is a first class salon. All professionals and the cuts are the best. You do not get better than high tech for the price. I have gone to this salon for 20 years never a bad cut and always satisfied.

Ratings_icons OVER RATED!!!!

melissa d.

I'm speaking from experience, I think the only reason half the girls are working there are because their young & good looking. I don't think the owner cares if they are good or have experience. Their prices are waay over the top and, you DON"T get what you pay for. I don't mind paying a high price for a GOOD HAIR CUT. There you do not get your moneys worth. I'd avoid them if you can. All I had was my hair blown out & was charged $50!!! They are concerned with making money and not making the customer happy.

Ratings_icons split ends

jen m.

hi-i saw split ends and was irritated in the first couple minutes by the uppity attitude by the philly woman.the whole point of split ends is to experience other salons/stylists.if they were all the same we would all look like "over make-up wearing, black haired philly woman"-i live on the mainline and none of the stylist from philly could make it there.high heels only is cool for strippers maybe.the chic from the hills wanted to learn.the white trash manager was a white trash ass.but bottom line being judgemental means your insecure.i pay $210 and they are nice-the last thing someone wants is to deal with some is some hair stylist who makes you feel insecure especially when they make half my salary.

Ratings_icons Go High Tech

Anita M.

I've been going to High Tech for many years & I've never walked out unhappy. Lauren has been doing my hair for about 2 years now and is ALWAYS on point. The owner (Lisa) always asks if I'm satisfied with my hair and if theres even a little problem shes quick to fix it. These women have a passion for what they do, you can't judge them from a T.V show people. They air what they want to make them look good or bad so please if you really want to know what High Tech is like....you need to go to the salon & have a service done. Not only do they do hair but the spa is amazing. They do everything from waxing, to massages. I've never heard of "we don't do that here." As for your snobby out look on these girls, if you watched the show really, who were the ones who were acting snobby? The High Tech girls were the warm and welcoming ones and thats how they always are. I'm relocating to Jersey and will still take the extra drive to Philadelphia to get my hair done right.

Ratings_icons AVOID MARY

Monica S.

3 years ago I had my hair colored by Mary. I was a brunette so I wanted to go blonde (of course not right away) by getting highlights. The first to times I went to her she did a good job because I didn't want too many highlight. At this point my hair was a dirty blonde so the third time I went to her I wanted to go a bit lighter. She totally bleached my hair to the point it started burning. By the look on her face you could see she was scared for me, for my hair falling out. She put 5 different masks on my hair just to calm my scalp. I came out of the salon with white hair and really burned ends that looked like a sponge. It took me 5 different hair dressers and a year to get my hair back in shape. I was embarrassed to go to school and work that most of the time i wore hats. This is my experience, please avoid her if you can.

Ratings_icons Great ladies, great professionals, great hair!

Gina W.

I have only seen the episode with the salon on StyleTv, but feel need to also comment with the others on Mary's seamless poise and sweet charm while in Washington State. (Note: not all Washingtonians are as represented on the show nor is stateside.) Mary as well as the others High Tech girls did great hair. More so I noticed how genuinely warm and welcoming the ladies at the High Tech Salon were to the other stylist. People do tend to think that the trendy salons have shallow or judge mental women as stylists. If only they could see that they are the ones being judgmental. I do not live in PA, but the next time I visit I will be making an appointment with High Tech Salon, just to be around great ladies and have a superb hair cut and color! Good luck High Tech, see you soon.

Ratings_icons Split Ends Show

Anonymous

I've been home sick for the past 4 days so I've been doing something I rarely ever do- watch TV. Today I watched the Split Endz show regarding High Tech Hair and the barber/antique shop. My assumption was that the gals from Philly would be catty and the gals from WA would be sweet. It was a poor assumption to make.

Amber Lee behaved atrociously to Mary: Going for lunch w/o offering to get some for Mary as well; making her use techniques that were below her ability level; treating her with spite and jealousy and complete immaturity. Mary, on the other hand, was excellent to the customers and gracious in the face of all the venom that Amber Lee was spouting out.

I think that Susan learned a lot from visiting High Tech hair. While I disagree with the rule that women should have to wear so much makeup and work in heels- I do agree with professional attire. Unfortunately when women wear that much make-up, it makes them look older. I think all the women in High-Tech could do with a lot less make-up- but that is my only criticism of their salon. I hope Susan learned what she needed to in order to grow her own business. I also hope she has a long talk with Amber about her behavior. I think someone also needs to address the issue of glorifying "White Trash" culture.

There is a big difference between being someone who lives a rural life and someone being white trash- and that difference is education and self-respect. There are plenty of polite and well-spoken country women who do not behave like white trash just as there are plenty of urban women who do not behave like cats.

I think that Mary behaved like a lady. I think Susan was like a naive person opening her eyes for the first time and really learning. I think Amber needs to learn what being a self-respecting woman is all about.

Ok- I'm off my soap-box now.

Ratings_icons Mary...

d s.

I thought she handled herself very well. She cracked me up with how she handled the woman she worked with in Wash. Miss White trash, she needed ALOT of help and a MAJOR attitude adjustment. Although she did look very nice once Mary told her that she needed to improve her look.
Although I do not live in Philly I do visit a couple times a year, I will definatly check it out next time I'm in town.

Ratings_icons So Sad

Ive been a client of high tech for many years. A few years ago that salon had so much talent. Then from what i heard all the great and talented stylist left once Mary Lamb started working there. From her appearance on split ends you can see why. What talented professional stylist would want to work with someone (MARY LAMB) who's so unprofessional and lacks any class... Anyway i followed my stylist EUN to Salon Fusion.

Where are the black girls doing weaves and perms? Where are the Korean girls in the back doing nails? Your salon is not at all philly; and you call yourselves HIGH TECH.

Ratings_icons Mary Lamb, a true artist!!!

Julia D.

High Tech is like most salons of it's type. Clean, hip, a great selection of services. What really separates High Tech from the rest is Mary Lamb. She is AMAZING. A certified Redken colorist and a gift to her profession and this salon. She really understands hair. When you go to Mary you get more than a great haircut, armed with her scissors she uncovers your true beauty. You get up out of her chair feeling renewed, yet completely yourself!! Yes, it is pricy, but beyond worth it

High Tech Hair Studio and Spa is a greta place to go for a day of pampering. All the stylists are great people and very friendly, upbeat and fashionable. They spa is kept very nice and clean at all times. The prices are somewhat high but the service is worth every penny of it. I suggest you get a friend and go together for a day at the spa.
