No matter how many times I go to Buca Di Beppo in East Noriton I still love the kitsch decor - check out the "Grinning Pope" room and you'll know what I mean.

The interior has a cliched "Italian restaurant" feel that just makes me think of Italian Tourist traps in Venice and Rome - the guys who designed it are evil geniuses :-)

If you go there for the first time, ask the staff to show you around - there are various dining rooms / areas that snake their way around the restaurant, giving the venue a rabbit-warren feel, but having said that, its fairly spacious and you never feel crammed in to a confined space. If you are dining with a very small group, or just a partner, consider dining in the kitchen (yes, they have this little dining area directly in the kitchen - makes me laugh just thinking about it - not exactly conducive to a romantic evening for two though!).

The food portion sizes are no laughing matter - this places takes its serving sizes seriously and if you're after a big feed, this is a great place to consider. Family-style servings are the order of the day (although smaller portions for one are available)

The staff are reasonably friendly, I've dined there many times (plus ordered food to go many more times) and never had a bad experience with service.

The menu is fairly large and whilst it is relatively basic Italian food, it is done well, and tastes pretty good. Its by no means the best Italian food I've ever tasted, however its is good honest cooking that tastes pretty good. You really cant ask much more of an Italian Chain Restaurant can you?

There's plenty of parking and the restaurant staff are fairly efficient if you order to go.

This is not fine dining by any stretch of the imagination but guess what, that don't claim to be!

Its a fun place for a local gathering.

When you you weigh it all up, the kitsch ambience, the generous portion sizes, the reasonable prices and the consistent service, its an attractive dining experience thats worth 4 stars in my book.

If you discount all other factors and just rate the food, you're probably looking at more of a 3 star rating.

Take my advice, if you happen to be in the area looking for a fun night dining, give it a go.

ABOUT THE REVIEWER: I'm an Australian guy who just happened to be living / working in PA for quite some and have enjoyed the food at Buca Di Beppa for many years (from memory my first visit there was in 2000!)
