It is a sad world where people can so easily give up their pets. Morris is certainly not the nicest place you will ever visit, but the real problem is all the people who don't care about animals and surrender pets like they give away

I thank the Morris animal refuge for being there in my time of dire need,My wife and I had to have a girl Lacy put down due to medical problems and they did a wonderful job.The staff was very compassionate and caring, they gave her a needle to take the pain away and let me stay with my Lacy till the end,WHEN WE HAD NOONE TO TURN TO FOR HELP THEY WERE THERE,These people really care about our four legged family members may GOD bless those at the Morris animal refuge,Linda and Jack

I worked at the Morris Animal Refuge for three years in the 1980s. I cannot vouch for how they are NOW because I have not been there in a few years. But when I worked there we had a GREAT crew that really cared about the animals.

Most of our shelter workers often worked without pay after hours, bringing in strays we'd find, fosterhoming animals we got attached to, in the hopes they would get better from being sick and we could find them good homes. I poersonally adopted (over the course of 3 years) 11 cats from them who all lived out their lives with me.

This is a small shelter that works hard to help animals. While their rules may seem strict, they are all in the best interests of the animals!

Staff was amazing - helped me find just the right dog for my lifestyle. Dog was neutered, had most of his shots, and was bathed. I took a long time to decide on a particular dog, and they were more than patient with me. You can see that the staff really care about the animals, and want to find responsible homes.

Could not be happier with my new friend!

Morris is the only shelter that puts its resources in Center City Philadelphia. For one thing Morris Animal Refuge is the best, the only, animal shelter in Philadelphia that has a low cost spay neutering program for everyone. They get thousands of unwanted cats and dogs (including my cat from Morris) homes. Have you every been in a city where no one cares for abandoned animals? Like Athens. If you have you can see how much better it is for everyone when there people get their animals neutered.

to Morris Animal Refuge, which helped me to adopt a wonderful friend. My cat and I bonded right away, and were the best of friends for 14 years. I lost her to cancer this week (she was more then 15 years old), but I wouldn't trade one minute of the time I had with her. She was the sweetest-natured and best-behaved cat I've ever known. She was always very healthy, and lived a long, full life. She had been frightened, perhaps abused, by someone prior to her time at Morris, but it just made her appreciate a good home that much more. We moved away from the Philadelphia area in 2000, so I haven't been to the shelter recently, but if I were ever to live in that area again, I would certainly visit Morris Animal Refuge to find any new pets.

Unsanitary conditions and animals in poor health make this the last place you'd want to adopt from. Go to PetSmart where the adoption program only offers healthy animals, with health insurance. You do not know what you are signing up for at Morris. Because they do not check the basic health of animals they are not really providing a valuable service to community. It's a shame and can end up costing you a lot more than expected.

I adopted a cat here many years ago. She lived to be 18 years old. This is a small animal shelter and they are very strict about who they adopt too. They give you a spay/neuter voucher which is included in the donation and adoption fee for the pet. They are well respected, and I go to tjere fundraisers. They have a lot of volunteer help and while small. it is a friendly place and cares about animals and does not warehouse them.

PROS: Friendly, save a pets life.
CONS:
