I still cannot believe the fact I came across this book which is worth more than $300 for only $20 at the Big Jar.

It is a cosi place where you can spend hours on picking up something you may be interested in reading. They have a limited seating so it will be on floor.

Old City needs more places like this to simply enjoy the neighborhood.

great selection and everything was in very good condition. every shelf you turned to, seemed to have a gem! also, was tidy, dusted, and had a charming comfortable atmosphere. comfortable beat-up reading chairs, plus a wooden stool near each set of shelves - very considerate additions. also, serves tea/coffee and delicious little brownies. there are two cute little tables near the window (and the used cookbooks) for great people watching while waiting for a friend to finish digging through the stacks.

a wonderful find!

Pros: great selection! clean, charming neighborhood store!

If you like bookstores that are independently owned and employ friendly knowledgeable staff, then stop in. It is a small bookstore when compared with behemoths like Barnes and Noble, but it carries a surprisingly good selection of fiction and non fiction. So, not good if you want the latest LSAT study guide, but great if you are interested in browsing literature selctions in a friendly calm atmosphere.

PROS: independent, friendly, nice location
CONS: small

The staff is extremely knowledgeable. They have a great selection of 80's and 90's books. Their Bronze Age selection has some holes, as does their Silver and Golden Age Collections, albeit to a much greater degree. The prices are fair, but you will not find any steals. They have a great pre-order service, and a spacious, nuerotically organized sales floor.

Big Jar is a good book store to go to if you know the title and author of the book you want. The staff is willing to help you if you don't but it's not the best for browsing. There's one long room with not much space between walls of shelves. I don't go here to wander and meander through a store. When I know what I'm looking for it's easy to go to Big Jar and see if they have it in a few minutes. Also, they often play Dylan, and that's always a good thing :)
