I have been going to Scranton Animal Hospital for a few years. The staff is great and I always get great service. The doc is good with my dogs and cats. I have a pit bull and he is great with her (NOT afraid of her at all.) I have never had a single problem going there. Their prices are very good as well. I would recommend them to anyone looking for a good vet.

My dog an I have been staying with family in Florida since 2010. Dr. Dorton has been refilling my dog's heartworm meds since I left PA, but today I requested a refill and was told that since the dog hasn't been seen since 2010, the Dr would not authorize the refill.

I explained that my dog is up to date on all of his shots and had a heartworm test 9 months ago via a mobile pet clinic and offered to provide proof of this, the girl on the phone could have cared less. I was told I would need to being the dog in for an exam and heartworm testing for the script to be re-newed - being the dog from Florida to they can give him a $10 test and an exam. Sounds like money is more important to them than pet health.

The would have rather see my dog go unprotected from heartworms than refill the script.

Stay away from them, there only out for a buck$$$! More importantly, I would be afriad to leave a pet there overnight it's obvious they don't care!

When my 13 year old shepard mix woke up unable to walk or eat or even hold down water, I knew it was the end. I honestly chose Scranton Animal Hospital because they were closest to my house and my dog hated car rides, so I didn't want to stress him out any more than necessary.

Dr. D and his staff were nothing but kind and gentle. They were so considerate of us and our dog. He did a short exam on my dog and he was so gentle and careful not to hurt him. I really can't say enough about how well they treated us, making the worst day of my life just a little bit easier.

I will be using Dr. D as my new vet when I get a new dog. I wouldn't go anywhere else.

I transferred care of my animals to Dr. D and his team after an unsatisfactory relationship with another vet in the area.

With the exception of one front desk person (who is no longer there) and some of the prices (charging for the disposal of sharps? c'mon doc!) I have been very pleased with my experiences during the past 3 years. They listen, have flexible hours and go above and beyond to educate pet owners on health and wellness issues.

Recently, I had to have one of my cats euthanized and the team was exceptionally kind and gentle through the whole experience.
In the months prior, Dr. D educated me on end stage renal disease and how to make the last months of life comfortable for my kitty.

I think they're great!

BEWARE! THIS IS NOT A GOOD VETERINARY CLINIC!!! In May of 1996, I brought my cat into this office to have a comprehensive check-up done as we were moving to NJ and wanted to make sure our cat was healthy enough to move. We paid for a work-up which was supposed to include blood work, X-rays, the whole nine yards.

Imagine my surprise when only a few months after getting settled in our new state, our cat began failing. Unable to jump on things he had been jumping on only weeks before. Then on a Labor Day weekend, he began to howl a never-before-heard ungodly howl.

We took him to a local emergency room veterinarian.

That local vet ACTUALLY performed the tests Scranton Animal Hospital CLAIMED to perform. Had Scranton Animal Hospital performed the tests they charged us for, they would have spotted the RAMPANT kidney cancer which had infiltrated BOTH of the cat's kidneys.

Our beloved cat had to be put down that weekend, that day. The day we brought him to the local vet, he never came home. We could have spent thousands of dollars on treatment and it was so late, nothing would have helped. Only prolonged his suffering.

I made my best friend suffer because Scranton Animal Hospital LIED!!! Scranton Animal Hospital DEFRAUDED us. Scranton Animal Hospital NEGLECTED its duty and took money and did NOT perform the services that were paid for. Worst of all, Scranton Animal Hospital turned its back on a sick (ultimately dying) animal.

I don't blame Scranton Animal Hospital for his condition, if blame has to be assigned, I would have to take the responsibility as I fed my cat Fancy Feast. Later I would speak to one of my co-workers, he fed his pure breed cats Fancy Feast and his cats died of the EXACT SAME ILLNESS. Reading the ingredients on the Fancy Feast cans, the ash content at the time was ridiculously high.

I blame Scranton Animal Hospital for not performing the diagnostic duties which would have revealed the cat's cancer, perhaps even early enough to at support a reasonable quality of life for his remaining few weeks.

RUN, RUN, RUN, away from Scranton Animal Hospital. Unless you want your pet's illnesses to be ignored. Scranton Animal Hospital is perfect for the pet caregiver who desires to be oblivious or remain in denial to any possible illness in their pet.

Just because you state that you are taking the animal out of this butcher shop's locality, it is no reason for them to ignore their responsibility to a sickly animal.

If you love your pet, I implore you, stay away from this hell-hole.

P.S., the ONLY reason this heartless institution got ONE star from me was because this site page would not accept my review without selecting at least one star. It should go into the negative...

My experience with Scranton Animal Hospital has been limitied. I have not lived in the Scranton area very long, moving here from Philadelphia. I did not have a repore with any Vet in the area actually. My companion Boxer buddy of 13 years had fallen ill. I knew his every behavior, for I had him since he was 3 months old. I knew he had little time left. I knew his lifes end was evident, and called Scranton Animal Hospital to set up an appointment for his euthenasia. I must say that this experience of having to put a dog down was one of the worst in my life. With that being said the professionals at this facility handled the situation with compassion and care. What was a horrible situation they made managable, with the attention and dedication expected. From this experience alone I know this is an operation that can be trusted. To make the situation even more heart felt they followed up the experience with a sympathy card, touching the heart of me and my family. I thank the staff at SAH for their dedication and compassion, and will never forget them for their huge hearts!

Sincerely....

PS-By the way Barbara R who wrote the highly ignorant review: If you are going to call the staff here DUMB you should learn how to write a letter and spell correctly. I would hate to have gone to the Vet that you managed the office for with the low intelligence level you display. I go by the theory, if you don't have something nice to say don't say it. JUST GO SOME WHERE ELSE...! I HATE TO DEFLATE MY ORIGINAL INTENTION OF THIS REVIEW BUT IGNORANCE IS BLISS...

I have nothing good to say about DrN and his incompitent staff. I started going to the clinic b/c i was okay w/ the doctor but i have to say he's afrai of my dogs. Neither have ever given reason to make him this way-he specifically goes by the bad rep owners like myselftry to disprov of pitbulls. I have two of the sweetest dogs on planet Earth and he has been seeing them for over 3 yrs-he still takes a step back from entering the room when he sees them(and this is w/ NO reaction or cause from my dogs) Their last appt was for vaccs, the next day my spoilked boy had swelling in the injection area. I managed an animal hospital for 5 yrs before miopving into this county and i woul dnot recommed him and as a manager of an anminal hospital i find his staff to be completely dumb-there is no better or more fitting word-DUMB! I couldn't beleive the ignorance on his part but the fact that he woulodn,t even get on the phone upset me b/c the vet i worked for would want to make sure liability wise there was nothing going on. I wouldn't call them a recommendable office even if you only needed a fecal test done!!!!

I have always taken my pets here. Since they remolded its much better. There waiting room is much smaller but you really don't have to wait long to be seen. The Dr. here are good too. I think the lady Dr. left I cant remember her name she was the only one I didn't care for too much but she was good with the dogs. The staff is pleasant and friendly. My dog knows where she is going as soon as we walk up the steps, so she doesn't like going here that much. But like a child going for shots they have to go. I like it too cause they send reminders out when your pet needs her up dated shots on you receipt it shows all the info.
