Gotta love Gus

by Anonymous

The shop offers huge steaks and sub sandwiches with prices that have not gone up as long as I can remember (and that is a long time.) The best part, though, is the staff. Owner Gus always has candies for the kids and will tell you stories about his fishing days. Great folks.

PROS: prices
CONS: can be crowded at lunch

Cheese steaks!

by Kate M. | insider Insider | Rank: 26,534

Capt. Gus's has been a Lancaster landmark forever. Good solid cheese steaks, big sodas. Fun, kitchy decor and vinyl seats. Great place to get fast food with out resorting to the golden arches. You can smoke in there too!

ok

Whoever claimed that they had better cheesesteaks than Philly, obviously isn't from Philly. Their cheesesteaks were ok but overly priced and small in comparison to a real cheesesteak. Can't say that I will eat there again.

Best Cheesesteaks ANYWHERE!

by randjean

Okay folks, this is THE place for awesome Cheesesteaks. Forget all those places in Philly, because this beats them all. Capt.Gus's may not be as big, but they are a whole lot tastier and cheaper. My favorite way to order them is to ask for a "Large cheesesteak w/extra cheese, pre-melted, and light sauce".

They use real cheese (not "Whiz") so it's a little better if you ask them to "pre-melt" the cheese. I ask for "light sauce" because the meat is nicely seasoned and I don't want to cover it up with too much tomato sauce. Sauteed onions are included (as it should be), so if you don't want them, you'll have to let them know.

The shop is a tiny place that is not in a particularly nice area but you'll never have a problem. Gus is an old Greek fisherman that's been there almost 40 years, so the shop (which has fishing poles on the ceiling and newpaper clippings on the walls) doesn't look all that nice, but they always score very high on the restaurant inspections, so you know they do a good job of making sure you get good food.

Every chance we get to introduce someone to a Captain Gus Cheesesteak, my wife & I will do it!

Love ya Gus!

Pros: Taste, Price, Passes Restaurant Inspections

Cons: Tight parking, Not the prettiest place.
