Sabrina's is AMAZING. The portions are huge and trust me, you'll want to try to finish them. Simply the best quality food. Long waits on the weekends but otherwise excellent.

I've been here for brunch (stellar) and lunch, which is equally amazing. The sandwiches are delicious and huge and the parm fries and sweet potato fries are both soooo good. I've never done dessert here, but I will be returning some time

Lovely brunch spot in the Italian Market area! Get ready for lines even in the winter but it is worth it! Huge portions - great taste from the overly stuffed french toast to the burgers!

This place is adorable. I can see how it's not for everyone, though. I think the last reviewer put it perfectly when he said you'll either think it's quaint and intimate in it's surround, or cramped and claustrophobic. I, obviously, fall in the former category. I'm totally won over by the authentic 50's-type feel to the place, which doesn't have the kitchy over-the-top feel that some diner's have. In keeping with this, they somehow they manage to get the cutest little cat's-eyeglass-wearing-type waitresses around, so if you're in need of eye-candy, this place'll give you your fix. It's been said before, but the french toast is unbelievable. Unfreaking unbelievable. Also, their sweet potato fries are delish (though not as good as Monk's), and their omlette's are fantastic (esp the spanish-themed one...forget the name). You will be waiting, though, if you come on the weekends, but they call you when you're ready to be seated, which is awesome because you're right in the heart of the Italian Market, allowing you to sample all sort of pre-brunch deliciousness in the surrounding Italian deli stores.

Pros: stuffed french toast, omelettes, sweet potato frieds

Cons: long waits for weekend brunch

I wrote my original review on 8/31/09 regarding the caramelized french toast, but I had to edit my review after having their stuffed french toast on three occasions.

If you are in to french toast, you have got to try their stuffed french toast. IT'S GREAT!!! Just to full warn you, it is a lot for one person. My wife and I usually share it when we go. Aside from the stuffed french toast, their omelets are good. We had an omelet with white cheddar, spinach, and tomatoes.

Overall, the breakfast at Sabrina's is great. I wish I could speak about lunch and dinner, but I'm only ever interested in breakfast whenever I go.

The only negatives would be the size of the place. Depending on your taste, you will either view it as small and cozy, or cramped. I view it as the former. In addition, the wait time on weekends is long.

Cons: Only negative may be the size and the wait on weekends.

we waited a while to be seated with a group of 6, but the food was worth the wait. portions were gigantic (french toast looked like a small fort) and we all left happy and full

I highly recommend this cafe for brunch, but if you come after 10 am, expect a bit of a wait. But it's worth it. Their stuffed french toast is out of this world, and the rest of the menu looks equally enticing, but to be honest, I can't order anything but the french toast every time I go because it's just that good. The staff is really friendly and patient, which is good, since you might need some time and suggestions when sifting through their extensive brunch menu.

GO THERE RIGHT NOW ! That's all I have to say... and that the food is tastey. and one warning ... get there early or after 12. The wait is always long in the middle of the day (on the weekends). The service is very good.
They give you free coffee when you are waiting in the cold.. some people still get cranky waiting though.... I don't now how the servers deal with all of those cranky customers! I'm always happy long wait or short... just as long as i get the special frenchtoast! Thank you SABrinAs!

Pros: service and food!

Cons: cranky customers (new jersey jerks) CHEER UP! everyone needs to eat...duh!

Sabrina's is a very casual place for a great meal. The restaurant looks like a converted home creating a very cozy atmosphere with small rooms. The french toast was truly wonderful.

As residents of Bella Vista, we have been going to Sabrina's since 2004. At first we were turned off by the long brunch lines of urban voyeurs from the suburbs. We finally broke down and went to Sabrina's for early dinner midweek--and have been regulars ever since. The interior decoration is nothing to write home about unless you lived in JP or Brattleboro during the 1970s. The outdoor seating is fun well into October. The burgers are cooked to perfection, the crusted salmon is wonderful, and their french-fry alternative--polenta fries--are out of this world. The fattening peanut butter deserts are sensational--they should have these every night! Forget counting calories for an evening, and try Sabrina's. The flirty twenty-something waitresses will make your husband's fifty-something heart flutter. It's dirt cheap, and given it's a BYOB, two people can get heaps of food for $50.00.

Pros: Mountains of delicious hippie food with a gourmet twist for a low price

My friend took me here, as it's her favorite breakfast place in Philly. I adore it, as she does. There's a great vegetarian menu with plenty of tofu, enormous and delicious french toast, great eggs, the list goes on. The servers are friendly and courteous. In the summer, the outdoor seating is great. I would recommend it to everyone.

Ah, the Sabrina's cafe, the original one, nope ,not the one with on callowhill whose pancakes consistently taste salty and unusally gross. Nope, this is THE Sabrina's the one philadelphians rave about. Much to my dismay it was only mediocre. Granted it was a Sunday morning, the wait was almost twenty whole minutes and the only thing that kept me from leaving was A) the hype of the restaurant and B) It was my best friends mother's birthday brunch. After waiting twenty minutes under the unapologetically blistering sun in July (though I was offered water by a nice waitress) we were seated and menus arrived. I ordered the challah $7 French toast with vanilla bean maple syrup. In 10 minutes an average portion of challah french toast with a side of ordinary maple syrup arrived. The french toast was remarkably bland and the syrup was simply average. Keep in mind, according to regulars, the french toast is one of the best items on the menu. However, I was not impressed. The Hashbrowns were mediocre; they were simply hunks of plain unseasoned idaho potatoes which were also bland.

My husband and I visited the South Philly location of Sabrina's for the first time a few weeks ago. We had the advantage of not reading or hearing too much about it before we actually dined there, so are impressions weren't colored by any outside opinions. We arrived without call ahead seating just after 9am and were seated immediately. In fact, the place had plenty of patrons, but there were many open tables and no lines. Our service was prompt and friendly and the food was delicious. I indulged in french toast and it lives up to its reputation - stacks of fresh fruit and ricotta cheese. I had to take half home because the portion was so large. As the place started to fill up we did feel a little bit rushed to wrap up our meal and move on out.
After reading some of the other reviews here I would suggest that Sabrina's is worth the trip, but to be smart about when you choose to dine there. By the time we left the restaurant at 10am the famous line had formed and people were looking disgruntled. I think waiting for a popular restaurant at peak hours is pretty normal. So, the logical suggestion here: Don't go during peak hours and you'll be sure to have a great experience. Its worth getting up an hour earlier on Saturday.

I live in South philly, and I have for a few years. 2 years ago i would have told you that Sabrina's is one of the best places to have breakfast in the entire city. This year, the restaurant has gone down hill. There menu looks great, but take a good look at what you order, because it is not what the menu says. They have begun listing off all these great ingredients, but are replacing them with cheaper substitutes. If you have any culinary background, this will be apparent before you even bite into your food. They straight up lie about what is in their food, making this a very unsafe place to dine if you have any food allergies. it also makes them look as if they think their patrons are idiots. The service is efficient and fast, but by no means friendly or reliable. They almost never refill your drinks, usually you have to wave down a food runner or a host. This place has gotten all caught up their reputaion and it has lost it's charm.

the french toast is the bomb! enough said!

actually everything is wonderful here and the service is so friendly and quick it makes you want to keep coming back for more!

word of advice, it gets packed on the weekends so be prepared! but even during the off peak hours on a weekday, the place is steady.

I?ve been to this location once, and the second Sabrina?s location at 18th and callowhill three times. Each time the food has been great, although the French toast options that people rave about are actually a little too sweet and gooey in such big portions. The plain pancakes are some of the best I?ve had, and the chicken noodle soup is homemade delicious.
My main issue is with their call-ahead ?system? of seating. It worked fairly smoothly at the South Philly one, and the host there was nice. But each time I?ve tried the 2nd one, it has been a disaster.
1st time ? didn?t know to call-ahead, after calling for reservations and being told they didn?t take them, five of us showed up as a walk-in and were told ? hour wait. As we watched many parties seated before us, we kept checking with the host, who finally explained about calling ahead, but still told us we?d be seated soon. 1 hr 45 min later, we were seated.
2nd time ? now we knew to call ahead, we did so and were told 1 hr. Two of my party showed up quite early and were told our table was ready, but they were going to give it away because we weren?t all there. We ended up literally running down the street to be seated.
3d time ? 3 of us called ahead, showed up on time, checked in a few times with the host as we waited and were told he had us, and continued to wait. After a whole list of people were seated, including 3 who just walked up, we checked in again and were told, ?oops, I missed you. We?ll get you the next one.? He did not stop the party he?d just called and tell them there was a mistake, he instead seated them and left us waiting for another 25 minutes until the next table was free. When I challenged the host I was told, and I quote, ?This is not normally my job, so it?s not my fault I missed you.? We never got an apology or acknowledgement of error. Despite the good food, it is not worth facing a ?system? that doesn?t work and unprofessional staff who can?t run the ?system?. We won?t be back.

We went here shortly when my youngest baby (now 7 months) was about a week old. I was surprised at how small and homey it was - I had heard great things about Sabrina's and thought it would be flashier. The coffee was great and our server was adorable. The stuffed French toast (nuts, berries, cream cheese, etc.) was delicious, but after about 5 bites it was just *too much.* My husband's burrito was kind of flavorless. I was surprised at how many folks were in there mid-morning on a weekday. I'd happily go back!

This place is incredible! It has all the stylings of a classic diner, complete with vinyl covered booths and swiveling bar stools.

The staff is very friendly, and you're usually seated immediately.

And the food is generous and well priced! My favorite is the strawberry stuffed french toast, and I can't ever finish it.

Great place to go for brunch!

whether you live in philly or you're in town for the weekend Sabrina's Cafe should absolutely be part of your breakfast/brunch/lunch/dinner agenda. a lot of impatient folks will complain about the wait or about their policies regarding reservations. here's a tip-call ahead and get your name on the list. this will cut down your wait time since they don't take reservations. as well they shouldn't! a place with that much turn over cannot possibly operate with every reservation showing up late or not at all (which is ALWAYS the case). Anyhow. onto what's important--the food! The portions are astounding--especially for the price. You will never finish your plate (and if you do it will be your only meal for the day!) The menu itself is incredible-combinations you couldn't dream up on your own but are absolutely worth trying. Locals can't ever get bored with the menu, either, since their long-list of specials make the decision process the hardest decision of your week! If you're picky, don't worry! I am too, and I've never been disappointed and have always gotten something different (and delicious!) They have an incredible tea selection which I would recommend letting any one of the friendly servers pick at random because they're all great! And another thing about the staff--it's the best in the city!!! Especially considering how hard they're working! The atmosphere is eclectic and fun and has a totally positive, uplifting vibe. When you go to Sabrina's you're guaranteed to have a good time and be in a good mood for the rest of the day!!! If your friends or family are visiting Philadelphia bring them here and it'll be the only thing they remember from their trip! A+ (writing this review made me hungry).

Sabrina's is quite simply the best place for breakfast in Philadelphia. Not only do they offer several specials each day, but they also have a great deal of choices on their standard menu (from their breakfast burrito, which I believe is called the Barking Chihauau - sp? to their pancakes to their apple/cheddar omelet). I've also been for lunch, which is great (though fo on the later side - 1pmish - to miss the brunch crowd). for those complaining about the wait, if you get there before 9:30am, you should be in good shape -- before 9am if you have more than 4 people.

Recently a friend called Sabrina's for a dinner reservation and was told that they do not take reservations. Our party of five agreed to wait a half hour, as told by the staff. After an hour and a half and being told several times that we were "next on the list", we were bumped by a party who claimed to have reservations. My friend who made the initial call pleaded our case, to no avail. So we went across the street to Butcher's Cafe and had a meal every bit as good as anything I'd had at Sabrina's. Minus the wait.

Hopefully they'll get their reservation policy straightened out. Till then, I'l dine elsewhere.

Sabrina's is a great place for brunch. All of the food was very good and the portions are pretty decent size as well. Although they don't accept reservations, I called in ahead of time and put my name in, and was seated about 5 minutes after I got there.

Cons: Long waits w/ no reservations, Parking

Sabrina's Cafe poses the most important question: "wow" vs. "food".
Where to begin?
If you are among the normal mortal throng, you will have to wait almost an hour for a table. Here is the first element of "wow". Then, when you see your order brought to the table, it's height and width and depth elicit the second "wow". And, when you get your bill, very reasonable you again say "wow". And the most important part for the social scene - the next day you go to your friends and say "Yesterday, we went to Sabrina's. We waited for an hour - wow, can you imagine? Then they brought me this French Toast that you would not believe. Wow, it was enormous - with all this fruit and cream. And, when we got our bill .... can you believe it? It was less than $10 each - WOW!""
If "Wow" is what you're after - then this is your place!
But let's look a bit more critically
I was bringing a group of ten suburbanites to Sabrina's as the culmination of a visit to 9th Street (what the current trend calls "The Italian Market".
So, as a preface, I called during the previous week to request a table for ten sometime late in the afternoon.
Well, of course, Sabrina's does not take reservations - part of their "cachet". But, they said, call about an hour or so before, let us know that you are coming and we'll have a table ready. Now, I made this inquiry several times before and each time, the response was the same. On the actual day, I called as suggested.
"Sorry, we're full" came the answer. So, I went in person. The manager was most hospitable and arranged for 2pm as our time and indeed the table was ready.
My crew was awstruck. French toast with all sorts of toppings the favorite. I had the Salmon burger.
Now, the food - VERY good. But, after all, French Toast is only bread. And my salmon, could survive by itself - it didn't need the huger Kaiser roll ( the WOW factor) that concealed it. But simple is NOT Sabrina's.
Great staff / Great Food/ Worth it? WOW?

Cons: the wait, artificial demand

This place was great! Gets pretty busy on Sunday for brunch but well worth the wait. I had the "Fallen for "Fall." It was delicious and creative. Never had anything with those combinations - tasted great. I lived in New York last year and brunch was my favorite meal. The quaint restaurant reminded me a places in New York but the service at Sabrina's was so much better. The waiters and waitresses are really nice and sweet - no unecessary attitudes.

Sabrina's in the best brunch, that I've ever had, bar none. The food is amazing, the service is very friendly and fast, and the restaurant itself is adorable. I have been three times now on the weekends and the only downside that I have found to Sabrina's is that you definitely have to be patient when waiting to be seated. Each time we have had to wait over an hour. Also, be sure to dress warm because you will be waiting outside. They have great hot chocolate while you're waiting, though, and it's worth waiting outside for a bit once you get in and have your brunch.

The old school farmhouse look is really cute. The food was okay, but a little bland. Maybe I didn't order well with the apple and cheddar omelette. I did love the potatoes, coffee, and hot chocolate. Service though was sweet and nice, but forgot our order of bacon and was a little slow. It was a busy Sunday morning. Our wait outside was about 15 minutes. The atmosphere was great, but for food and the same wait, I'd rather go to Morning Glory or even Marathon Cafe.

My first trip to Philly for a hardware convention. Was told about Sabrina's by another waitress at Ruth's Chris for great Sunday breakfast. EXCELLENT atomsphere, loved the music the food everything! Plenty of staff which at first was weird cause we were the only ones there but then holy cow the whole place was full! I see why now! Taxi driver got us lost and we walked 8 blocks to get there after the taxi dumped us but WORTH EVERY STEP!!!
Will definately go back!!! Thank you!! thank you!!!

For the past two years since living in Philly, I have frequented this place at least once a month. It is practically a staple in my diet. I have never been dissappointed, service is always wonderful but more importantly the food is consistant. I have not been dissappointed yet and all of my out of towners, esp from NYC and DC know that this is THE place we go for brunch always when they visit me. I always get the Special Salads, they are delicious and the dressings are so creative. And the special pancakes, although some may sound weird with the combination of ingredients, I've yet to be dissappointed. If you go early on Sunday around 10am there is hardly a wait, they also have "call-ahead" seating available. I tend to go for lunch during the weekdays which isn't so bad, unfortunately if you show up primetime on sunday then there is going to be a very long wait.

While I agree that Sabrina's serves an excellent brunch menu, their service leaves much to be desired. After waiting two and a half hours(!) to be seated for brunch one Sunday--during which time the hostess told us several times that our party was "next on the list"--my party of three walked across the street to the Butcher's Cafe, where we were seated in less than five minutes. I ordered challah stuffed French toast -- the same thing that I wanted to order at Sabrina's -- and it was just as good. Sabrina's has a great menu, but they need to learn how to take reservations!

I feel like I'm just going to reiterate what 99% of the reviewers have already said, but I truly LOVE this place! Having moved to the area fairly recently, I happened to stumble upon Sabrina's without having heard about it, and now I go back for Saturday or Sunday brunch at least once or twice a month. The food is fantastic, always plentiful, and comes out very fast. Sucks having to wait for a table, but it's usually worth it.

The best brunch you will ever find! The only food recommendation I can give is to go more than once so you can try everything! The omelets, the pancakes, the French toast, the turkey club, the Caesar salads, the eggs benedict, and daily specials are just fabulous!!! The service is always friendly and fast. Sabrina's really brings all different kinds of people together with their delicious food! I love it here so much and can't say enough good things about Sabrina's!

I hosted a Surprise Birthday for my husband last weekend and it was fantastic! Everyone had a great time, the food was EXCELLENT - the guests all thought the food was great. The service was perfect, they were very attentive and the owner Robert was there to help too. The atmosphere was great, just like Soho New York.
Sabrina's is a favorite brunch place for our family, but earlier this year we had dinner there and we were surprised to find the dinner food was just as good! I was so happy that Sabrina's could accomodate our party, it truely was a night to remember.
One more thing.. my husband and I stopped in 4 years ago, one week after their restaurant opened and we had a nice chat with the owner's wife (I'm forgetting her name), she told us they named the cafe after their daughter. So sweet.

Great dinner last night at Sabrina's Cafe. Food was delightfully prepared; very tasty and pleasing to the eye; great use of herbs on the Greek salad (which I highly recommend; great to share the large one with a party of four). Service was excellent. We sat at a table on the sidewalk and enjoyed the night air (which actually was comfortable). Nice varied menu and great deserts. It's a real find.

I finally had a chance to check out Sabrina's after hearing raves about their brunch. I heard to call ahead to be placed on the wait list for Sunday brunch, so when I arrived -the wait was barable. I must say, the incredible food and great service definitely lived up to its reputation. The only negative was that there were too many menu choices. All of their specials sounds so good, it was hard to make up my mind. I finally decided on the pumpkin pancakes and they were probably the best I ever had in my life! This place is definitely worth checking out. I am looking forward to going back again, but maybe even for dinner next time.

The French toast is enormous in size and I couldn't put my fork down even though I was full! The only downside is that it's very busy, so expect to wait for seating for brunch. It is worth the wait however! Unfortunately for sunday brunch reservations can't be made for a party less than 6.

The crispy Calamari was very good as was the goat cheese salad but it went to very ordinary from that point. The pecan crusted trout entree was OK; the pork chop with garlic-mashed potatoes was big (not much else to say about it) and the best meat loaf youve ever tasted was both hard on the inside and out. The staff is very friendly and the place is cute but for $60 with tip (its a BYOB) it was very disappointing

I've become a regular at Sabrina's and cannot say enough about the food and service. The wait staff is always friendly and well informed about the menu choices, specials vary day-to-day, and the food is perfect. Whether I'm here for brunch or dinner everything is individually prepared with the tastiest of ingredients. The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming. Please don't go to Sabrina's, once you do you'll only come back and make my wait for a table longer.

I've had great meals here, and I've had a couple of horrible meals as well (like fritattas raw in the middle, eeew). The atmosphere is homey and pleasantly bustling inside, but definitely go during a weekday if you want to avoid waiting and waiting for a table. Unless you go to gossip about the night before with whatever hipster tribe members turn up, your choice.

I stumbled on this place just mosying around the market. I am so glad that I did. I had a Caesar salad and hamburger. They were both fabulous. I am a huge fan of hamburgers, and I have to say that this just might be the best I have ever had. I ordered the normal size Caesar, and it was huge. The prices are reasonable and the staff affable. I am going to be a regular.

As a dedicated brunch lover, this is my favorite morning cafe. Not only does it have the traditional breakfast menu, it has a wide variety of more unique and tasty brunch entrees ... My favorite is the banana-farmer cheese stuffed french toast. The specials are also great! The ambience is restful yet upbeat after a late night, and the service is good. The only thing lacking is a bloody mary.
