Strasburg Railroad is really fascinating and education for the kids. We took my girls here and took the train ride and remember it as if it were yesterday. You can even dine on the train. It is located in Strasburg Lancaster County PA. Fun thing to do with the family. certain times of the year the schedule to take the train changes so if you do want to go, check the schedules first.

Strasburg Rail Road is one of my family's favorite attractions. We've visited many times over the years. The main thing to do at Strasburg is take a relaxing, beautiful ride through southcentral PA's countryside. The historical trains are gorgeous. Along with the train ride itself, there are gift shops and locomotives stationed on the ground to explore. They also started doing a Day Out with Thomas, which features Thomas the Tank Engine--a big hit with the preschool/school-age set. You do need to pay for the train ride, but it's not something that will blow your budget. Take your whole family for a relaxing day of fun.

The Strasburg Railroad is a great attraction for the entire family. Your ticket price buys you about a 45 minute ride on the train. They take you from Strasburg and head east towards Paradise, PA. At the end the train stops so that the engine can change to the other end. Along the ride one of the employees gives you a guided verbal tour of the country side. On a nice day there is a picnic park that you can get off at and then catch one of the later trains back to Strasburg. While you are off the train you can also go pick mums and pumpkins at the nearby farm.
If you need a meal while you are ther you can pay a little higher price for a ticket and enjoy lunch on the Lee Brenner dining car. If you don;t want to eat on the train then stop at the restaurant on the grounds for some delicius chicken corn soup.
Also be sure to visit the spacious gift shop for some train souveniers!

While on vacation in Lancaster we road the Strasburg Rail Road. It is a great scenic ride through Amish country. The trip has a narrated story about the area. It was nice and relaxing to ride on this great steam locomotive. They have several gift shops and a restaurant. They also have dining cars. Another must see while in Lancaster county.

This is a MUST for any trip to the Amish Country area of Lancaster County, Pa!
Hop aboard an authentic old steam engine and take a leisurly ride along the tracks into the town of Paradise! That's right...Paradise! PA, that is!
For a ticket price, you can sit in the old velvety seats on an actual running steam engine train car!
It takes you past some of the most scenic Amish farms in the area. Sit back and listen as the conductor weaves his tales about the train days of old and give some information about the local Amish and Pennsylvania Dutch who settled the area many years ago.
You feel the breezes and smell the scents through your open window and take it all in!
Its a GREAT way to relax from all the running around and shopping and sightseeing.
PLUS, during certain times of the year, (June, September & December) pack up the kids and get to Strasburg, because none other than THOMAS The Tank Engine, himself, is there much to the delight of children...and parents too!! lol

You can even buy a ticket for the dining car-for a higher cost, of course, and be served lunch aboard the dining car! OR, pack a lunch and get off at the little picnic grove area along the route and relax under the trees-then hop aborad another train going back later on for your return trip!
They have a website for all info: www.strasburgrailroad.com

Its really a LOT of fun and makes you feel like you stepped back in time-even more so that the already time-stood-still feeling of the Amish Country.
We LOVE taking this ride almost every time we go to the area!!

PROS: Ride and actual steam train on a leisurly ride to Paradise! So much fun!
CONS: NONE!!!

We went to the Day out with Thomas the Train here and my kid loved it. It is very kid friendly, however during these special events, make sure that you get tickets early and plan to walk when you park. The staff was great about little kids and helping parents get that "great" pictuReviros=
