The owner is rude and arrogant! service stinks and prices are high. I am turning in my cards. I live in center city and go there all the time. We are never treated like good customers and the staff has a I don't give a .... attitude. A shame there is no competition.

We are center city residents and shop there all the time but you are always treated like you are bothering them and now I know why the owner is a rude creep! It a shame as I purchased a lot of items there.

This market has really gone downhill the past year or so. I used to have such great experiences going there about 2 years ago but after today it was the final straw and I do not think I will be back. They clearly do not care about customers and from what I hear the also do not care about their employees. They take full advantage that they are a quick couple block walk for people in the area but I have another grocer who is only an additional 3 blocks away so I guess they will get my business from now on in. It's a shame really like I said they used to be great but now they are awful. Overpriced and full of attitude save your dollars and find somewhere else to shop.

I am new to Center City Philadelphia after 25 years of living in the suburbs and I am very impressed with the Rittenhouse Market! I left my car in the suburbs and the only difficult errand that I have is grocery shopping. I noticed at the Rittehouse Market that they advertise a delivery service. I called and was pleasantly surprised by how easy it was to utilize this service. If I wanted, I could shop and have the food delivered but my son decided to throw a party at the very last minute and I was jammed for time. I gave them the order over the telephone and received it within 2 hours. I am now a loyal shopper of The Rittenhouse Market!

I've been going here regularly for about a year and I will never go again. I went in tonight for a quick stop and the owner of the store was asking an employee whether he was "stupid or lazy" over and over again in the same aisle that I was shopping. Rittenhouse market, you are so convenient and yet your owner is despicable. Oh well...

I used to frequent this grocery store a lot when I lived on Rittenhouse Square. It was always clean and the staff always friendly and helpful. It's a decent sized grocery store right off the Square. Stop by frequently for fresh produce.

This is a decent supermarket. They have a large selection. My biggest complaint is the lack of organic choices in the produce section. Some of the staff is great and some not so much. It's also really expensive. We have a running joke that everything is $4.99. Doesn't matter if it's an apple or a bagel--it's $4.99!

The deli section is a horror show both in terms of the food they supply and the food handlers. The smells that come from the back of the store turn my stomach (even when I'm just walking by). The food is not fresh. Furthermore, the help is generally unhelpful and rude. I can't wait for a Whole Foods to open up near the Square. Maybe we'll finally get a decent market.

This supermarket is located off of Rittenhouse Square, on 18th and Spruce (not sure why the address is showing up as 2212 Spruce). I find the prices high, but if you don't have a car and live close by, then you might as well shop here. They're deli section is actually decently priced (the section where the staff slice turkey, ham, etc for you), and their meats are good value, and they package smaller portions is you're just cooking for yourself or for a few people. The fresh produce seems pricey to me, and I tend to buy produce at Maxx's on 20th St. For better prices and selection, I prefer going to Pathmark, but you need a car. Another option is the Thriftway on 23rd and South, which might have ever so slightly lower prices but is about the same size.

PROS: Clean, good quality
CONS: Pricey

I used to frequent the Great Scott market and I used to like the food I got but lately they have grown lazy and the food has dropped in quality. I bought spoiled Chicken, melted ice cream, spoiled sour cream, and mouse ridden tortilla chips from Great Scott over the last 3 months. I think this market is too small and too expensive to allow things of this nature to occur. Ive never bought a bad grocery item from an ACME or a Super Fresh and they are very large grocers, I just dont understand how this stuff goes unnoticed or unchecked in a place the size of my apartment. Clean up your act!

The Rittenhouse Market is a grocery store in the city, conveniently located just a block from Rittenhouse Square. The store is always clean and the selection is good for a city market. The prices tend to be on the high side and it can be a bit crowded at peak times. It is on of the best markets in center city if you dont have access to a car.

In a quarter of a century, I haven't tasted such terrible produce. Yes it looks fresh and it may even smell good. The apples smell sweet but there is absolutely no sweetness in the flesh, it is like eating cardboard. The vine-ripened tomatoes smell great but they have absolutely no taste. The navel oranges too have this problem. Frankly it is unbelievable to me. On top of that, they charge insane prices. I'd rather pay $1.50 to get an orange at the airport that tastes like an orange than pay 50 cents per orange here that tastes like wet fiber. SHAME on you, Great Scot Supermarket!
