H K Golden Phoenix is one of the few restaurants in Chinatown that serve Dim Sum daily.

The Dim Sum is pretty good although the selection is not quite as strong as the weekends at other restaurants in Chinatown.

It is much easier to get a table here since they have both upstairs and downstairs seating.

Not a great experience. The food is not that good and overpriced. We had the fried crabs. Very greasy and salty. Yuck. We wish we could have eaten at the Viet Thai place next door. The viet thai place is five stars.

Better luck next time.

Cons: The only this worst than the service was the food.

The dim sum was subpar-- served cold and mushy. It was clean and service was OK, but I will never go there again for dim sum.

My fiancee and I went to Ocean Harbor because we saw that a lot of people went to this restaurant. Well, it should be pretty good, we thought.

There was no table downstairs, so we went to the 2nd floor. We sat down and no one came until eventually a guy said (he didn't even stop at our table and just walked really fast) that we can order from the dim sum menu. So we read the menu and memorize what we wanted to order. We sat for like 10 minutes and no one took our order. We finally NEED TO STOP a waiter to take our order and he said that we CAN'T order from the menu. We're pretty upset but finally a girl took our order (by memorizing it, she didn't take a note). She seemed kind of lost (probably because it's a pretty busy day), but oh well we thought we only ordered 5 dim sum, she should remember them.

We waited for our order for 20 minutes or so and then the girl came back. She FORGOT what our orders are! We're pretty upset, but we were fine repeating our order again.

Ten minutes later the order came. It's not bad actually until we got the spring roll. When I ate it, the inside was kind of cold. I looked into my spring roll and the PORK WAS UNCOOKED! My fiancee and I was really upset and we called a guy that worked there and he seemed pretty nervous when we showed him the RED PORK MEAT inside the spring roll.

He said sorry and he'll take care of it. We didn't need to pay our dim sum. I went to many Chinese restaurants, but this is the worst of them all. Not only the food quality is bad, but the customer service is awful. They seem to cater to people that can speak Chinese more than the non-Chinese speaking customers. I don't know if it's because they're really busy or they just don't care.

Overall, the worst Chinese restaurant I've ever been to.

Cons: Bad service, uncooked pork

Golden Phoenix (in Chinatown Philadelphia) is grossly overrated and highly undesired. First, let's go through a list of dishes I ordered and what I thought. The "Seafood Pan Fried Noodles"for $11.95, was not very good. The seafood portion (didn't even have 1 shrimp) was tremendously disappointing. Very small portion sizes is a theme at this restaurant.

The "Steamed Striped Bass" was very disappointing as well. The portion size was excessively small for $21.95. The striped bass was about the size of a panfish like a sunfish (5" in length no kidding). I would've expected something 12" long (whole fish) for $21.95. What a disappointing portion size.

The "salt baked seafood" for $11.95 was very soggy and not as crisp as I would've liked. You do not want soggy in this dish. It was overcooked and looked like bad chicken nuggets. Greatly disappointed.

This is my local spot for dim sum in Philly Chinatown. I have tried a few other places and I still think this is the most consistent. Some reviewers said the food is nowhere to be found, the trick is to flag down a server and tell him/her what you want and they will usually bring you the food right away directly from the kitchen.
Another tip, if you get there before 11AM, you will always get a seat and ALWAYS get the freshest food from the steamer and fryer.
Recommended.

Pros: Good dim sum

Cons: It's chinatown, don't expect a spotless restaurant!

We went on a Sunday afternoon for lunch. Even though there was no wait because they have opened up both floors, food was another story. They were either short-handed with pushing of the food, or in the kitchen but we had to wait so long for food, we gave up waiting. We did get pan fried rice noodles with preserved shrimp but it didn't come with sweet soy sauce or hoisin sauce, we had to wait and wait for someone to bring and then it was already cold. The usual steamed rice noodles with shrimp or pork or beef were nowhere to be seen and for 45 minutes there was no shrimp dumplings. If this is an establishment to sell food, they are failing miserably. The overall experience was very disappointing.

I went to a wedding banquet here along w/ dim sum, and it was too bad. So, I went to try dinner. Majority of the food was really bland, but there were a couple dishes that were good like sweet and sour pork (chinese style) and jellyfish.

Pros: Dim sum, Wedding Banquet

Cons: , Small portion, $$

.

Good quality dim sum, reasonable prices, lots of choices -- lunch only, of course. Ran into a former chef from Susanna Foo's eating there.
