BEST SPA I'VE EVER BEEN TO!
by Laura L.
I was just looking at some reviews around town and happened upon this site. Naturally, I like to check out how my favorite spots are doing and so when I found the insider pages I went to check out Terme Di Aroma. Frankly, I'm a little confused about some of these negative reviews on here. Have these people actually BEEN to this place? I can't even imagine having anything less than a perfectly delicious experience at Terme, whether it's for a massage or facial. I've had both here, and would absolutely hands-down recommend this place to anyone who wants to have skilled, friendly professionals giving them the best services of any spa around. I've been all over the place, and like to try out different spas and salons all over because I travel a lot and my job is very stressful. I have to say that I've never had a better massage or facial anywhere I've tried! This place is magical, even if you just come in for the atmosphere. There's mood lighting, plants everywhere and the most wonderful smells! And if you are serious about going somewhere to get the best quality for your money, Terme's the place to go. I've recommended so many people to Terme DI Aroma and will continue to do so because they really seem to care about me as a person and want to help me relax, unwind, and just plain feel better. I'm only giving them 5 stars because they don't have 6--trust me on this, YOU NEED TO CHECK THIS PLACE OUT! I promise you won't be disappointed!

I think they forgot about me.....
by margaret s.
To be fair I can't complain about the staff....everyone was friendly enough. However from the time I came in....EVERYONE dropped the ball. It was my first time there so I got there early to fill out the intake form, they had me go to the waiting area to fill it out, and I sat there and sat there and no one came and got me. They never showed me to the locker room, I was not given a robe. My therapist took me back 30mins. late for my 90min. treatment, and then shorted me the 30 mins even though it was her fault (she SKIPPED one of the parts of my body that I SPECIFICALLY told her I needed MORE time on. I was there for an aromatherapy scalp treatment and aromatherapy massage....no one showed me the oils I had to choose from and when I asked my therapist when I'd be choosing my oils, she looked at me as if she had NO IDEA what service I was having in the first place. I did NOT end up getting an aromatherapy scalp treatment, she used some sort of unscented scalp treatment product, then rushed through the massage. I then had to spend the rest of my day greasy in my street clothes...ruining my plans to spend the day in the city. Thanks Terme Di Aroma!

I was in once for a deep tissue massage and it was fine, juts not very special. The atmosphere was relaxing - dark and cozy and they served tea, but all in all I would not recommend it.

I would not recommend. I went there once and was very disappointed. There is nothing like paying good money for a deep tissue massage when it is clear the therapist has no massage training. I wouldn't go back.

Good massage, mediocre facial

I had a decent massage at Terme, but the spa itself is a little weird - after you get changed, you go into the calming waiting area to wait for your therapist. It's fine; you can have tea or juice, but they had, like, pizelles from BJs on the bar, too. Holistic pizelles? The massage was great - hot towels at the end, aromatherapy, the whole deal. I didn't love that I had to go down into the basement of the place to get to the massage room.
The time I had a facial, though, was a different story - the aesthetician smelled like smoke and a hoagie and I regretted not getting up and leaving.

I had a massage and facial here- both were excellent! Great products and employees. I'm not crazy about the front desk people, but the most annoying this is that once you put on your robe your in this "waiting room" with both sexes- men coming in for treatments or to look at the shop. It felt weird and VERY unprivate.

heaven in old city
by merlel
I'll get right down to the nuts and bolts. I found this old city spa an oasis amongst the Philly cityscape to be a welcome stop.
As I entered, I was instantly overcome by a sense of calm. I was greeted courteously and professionally.
The experience was charming, invigorating and best of all, tranquil.
Pros: relaxing

This place rocks!
by morningglory76
I just wanted to post something for anyone looking for a great spa. I found this place on citysearch and I'd like to "return the favor" if I can. This place is awesome! I was late from work and they were totally able to accomodate me. Man, was I stressed out. As soon as I walked in I knew it was special here--the unique aromas, the friendly smiles and warm greetings from everyone. They even offered to make me a cup of herbal tea to "take the edge off." I felt like I was in someone's cozy living room. My therapist was so super and worked all the spots I'd mentioned were a problem. When I left I swear it was the first time I didn't have a headache in like 3 weeks! A friend of mine got a facial and a body wrap as a gift and said they were just as wonderful as the massages, so I think next time my boss makes me work a 60-hour week I?m going to book one of those along with another massage. Sounds like heaven to me!
Pros: Atmosphere, service, friendly, accomodating staff
Cons: You can't sleep here overnight!

Thanks for the Therapy!
by kittyjameson
Being out of work for the past 3? months has me feeling crappy more times than not these days. So when my friend bought me a gift card for a spa package with the suggestion that I take a vacation from myself I took the hint. To be honest, the vacation I needed was really for my head, and was this ever the right place!
From the moment I walked in I started to feel calm. The atmosphere, muted lighting, hanging vines, amazing scents and nice people all came together to make me feel like I was in a faraway place.
As much as I enjoyed my massage and facial I really enjoyed just being invited to stay and relax after my services and talk to the staff (their listening to my ramblings about being out of work is probably more like it). Everyone here really seems to want to be here doing what they?re doing. Certainly NOT my experience in my last job. I especially enjoyed my talk at the juice bar with John about taking the opportunity to re-invent myself. It was really inspiring.
I?m not sure how soon I can schedule another massage or facial but I?ll definitely be back. Most likely I?ll be stopping by to relax in their lounge. Thanks for the therapy!
Pros: Awesome service & smells, a staff that actually cares!
Cons: You have to eventually leave

Ok, I have to say that the service at this spa is EXCELLENT! I got stuck in traffic, which made me 30 minutes late, but they still accommodated me and were super friendly and understanding.
The problem is that 1 day after getting a massage that was a bit strong, I can barely turn my neck. I'll have to call them and let them know.

Philly's Awesome Place for Awesome Relaxation
by hannahdoyle
This place is CHIC! In the scale of 1 to 10, I'd give it a 20! Customer service is excellent. Normally, I get really antsy spending long hours in spas but Terme Di Aroma made me feel like I never wanted to leave. The spa itself was very relaxing, the combination of the interior design, soft lighting, music made me feel at home. I love the bar they had in the waiting room full of water, juice, fresh fruits and even cookies! My thereapist was awesome! The facial I had was excellent. The front desk lady (Maria) was very helpful and knowledgeable about the products which I ended up purchasing. I will definitely make sure to refer Terme Di Aroma to all my family and friends. I already know what to get for a lot of them of Christmas (gift certificate!) I want them to have the same wonderful experience I had, and sure will continue to have. Terme Di Aroma is the place to get serious pampering!!
Pros: great customer service, very relaxing atmosphere, very affordable

Best Kept Secret Spa in Philadelphia
by lessimpson
After a few urging and coaxing from a lot of my friends, I finally gave in and made an appointment for a massage at Terme Di Aroma. I blame myself for not going right away. I didn't know what I was missing all these months! As soon as I walked in, I was impressed by the set up of the spa. It was very classy and it had immediately given me a comfortable feeling that I'm going to get my money's worth! The interior was designed tastefully, it was very obvious that the owner had invested so much to make such impression. The staff were very warm, cheerful and accommodating. Maria welcomed me with such a sweet smile that made me feel at home. The lounge room was very comfortable, quiet and relaxing. My therapist (Beth) knew exactly what I wanted done without me having to elaborate. When I was done with my massage, I looked around and checked their products. Maria was very helpful and knowledgable about the products and was very patient with every question I had. When I left the spa, I felt like a million bucks. Now I know where I need to be when it comes to pampering myself. I will be a returning customer and I am already planning on having a facial (on top of yet another out of this world massage) on my next appointment! Thank you, for treating me like a like a royalty! My experience with Terme Di Aroma is something I am looking forward to sharing with other friends and family members.

Pamper yourself at Terme Di Aroma - I did!
by FayeCruz
The ambiance was very classy and relaxing. The waiting room was very comfortable, complete with soothing music and lighting. The robe and slippers were very soft and obviously clean. I was greeted by a very friendly, yet professional staff. They made sure I was comfortable in any aspect of this special day spa treat for myself. The massage I got was more than I asked for. My therapist knew exactly where my knots were and worked on them with obvious care. The facial was very relaxing and gave my face a new meaning of "brand new me." I've never felt my face so much cleaner in a long time! After my massage and facial, the staff again made sure if I was okay or if there was anything they could get for me. After I got dressed, I walked around in the reception area to check out the different products they have in store and I have to say they have a real impressive product inventory that I wound up purchasing some. New Year's resolution: Spoil myself by making a trip to Terme Di Aroma once a month! It's worth it!
Pros: Comfortable, soothing, relaxing. Great customer service

Nice place, and service - HORRIBLE FACIAL!!!
by anutiq
I liked the interior a lot. I went there to get relaxed and get a relaxing facial and massage. The massage was fine, but the facial - a nightmare. I had never experienced such a rough facial in my life. The person doing it was very inconsiderate in terms of being gentle and I felt almost like she is annoyed with me or something else. I couldn't wait when it was finally over, and came out with a terrible feeling of tension, instead of relaxation. I will think twice, before I go there again. There are a few other very nice spas, I had experienced a very pleasant facial in Mananyunk and in Bala Cynwyd.
Pros: Relaxing Atmosphere
Cons: Terrible Facials

Excellent customer service!!!
by jack0381
After searching for the perfect spa, my mother and I have found a home here at Terme for almost 3 years! The services are similar to the "rittenhouse" type spa but I find Terme's speciality is in the customer service... From the welcoming smiles of the receptionists all the way to the owners- everyone makes you feel comfortable (something you can't find in an uptight pretentious spa). The facials from Jen B are ones that get noticed days after the service. The massages from Kevin are so relaxing that my mother and I choose our spa days around the days Kevin is at Terme.
I am pleased to give my recommendation to Terme for anyone looking for a great spa in the city!

This is quite possibly the best spa in the city, as well as the region. Lovely, relaxing atmosphere and highly skilled therapists.

Cons: parking can be tricky but meters are everywhere - bring change

stick with your own place if you already have one
by outandaboutphilly
Went here because it won the "best of citysearch", but it was below average to say the least. The price was about going rate; the massage was ok, however, the massage therapist didn?t shut up the entire time; and the atmosphere was quite hokey (too much junk up front and too overcrowded in the back seating area). My friend that went with me said their massage was nothing special (done by another therapist). Needless to say I wouldn?t try this just because it won.
Pros: started on time
Cons: massage therapist didn?t stop talking, place was hokey looking

Terme creates a peaceful, relaxing, atmosphere. The staff are friendly, thoughtful and very professional. More than just "services", healing happens here! I've had massages, facials and scalp treatments from multiple therapists and estheticians here; they have all been excellent and each person has his/her own style. Speaking of "his", don't cheat yourself of a Thai yoga massage from therapist Kevin Starbard because he is a guy. As a woman, I felt comfortable getting a massage from him. You are totally clothed for Thai yoga and shiatsu massages anyway, if you care. Thai yoga massage is like doing a whole yoga class with zero effort on your part. I didn't expect it to, but Kevin's Thai yoga massage healed my chronic tendonitis in my shoulder. I'm not claiming it's a panacea, but I strongly encourage people to try it!

Best massage in the city! Great service and great attention to detail.
by ingwiese
Everyone here is a professional - from the woman who answers the phone to the therapist that waits outside your door with a glass of water when you finish your massage. I have long used massage as an essential relaxation tool and monthly muscle soother. Terme Di Roma really understands the science of massage, therapists use strong hands and pay special attention to my needs. For the best massage in the city - I highly reccomend Terme Di Roma!
Pros: Skilled massage therapist, excellent customer service
Cons: It's often hard to get an appointment and sometimes I feel cut short on the length of the massage.

Disappointed
by mncl425
While I did receive a nice massage, I was very disappointed by the unprofessional way in which the massage therapist began the massage 15 minutes late and did not make up the 15 minutes. Additionally, the massage therapist had long fingernails that dug into my skin during hand and foot massages.
Overall, not what I expected. My boyfriend spent way too much money to get me an hour and a half massage for the time to not be respected.
Pros: Clean
Cons: Unprofessional, long fingernails

Love their scalp massage!
by SpaNewbie
I was studying for the CFA exam last winter, and felt extremely overwhelmed the 2 weeks prior to the exam. I was desperate to try anything to get a clear mind. I went to citysearch and found out about Terme di Aroma. I was hesitant at first because I never felt comfortable with strangers touching me. I went anyway because nothing I tried gave me a clear set of mind and the exam was near. I had an appointment for a half-hour scalp massge. The customer service is excellent. They made you feel at ease. I was served with a hot cup of apple cider. Then the scalp massge was great and I felt comfortable! Then I went again a week later. This way, I felt so relaxed that I couldn't study that day (I wasted that afternoon, but my mind was never that peaceful) - I actually felt asleep while studying on a comfortable recliner in one of their rest area (they allow the guests to hang out as long as they want)! I have been going back regularly since then... and by the way, I found out I passed that CFA exam couple days ago. I have to give some of the credit to Terme di Aroma!!!

by phillymusicgrl22
I've been to MANY spas in Philadelphia and NJ...Terme di Aroma is by far the best. From the moment I walked in the door, I knew I would be coming back. The receptionist was warm and friendly, inviting us to enjoy a cup of tea and relax in the lounge prior to our services. Jennifer gave an excellent facial, complete with a few tips and tricks to keep my skin looking great in between services. I did not experience the typical "stuck up" attitude I usually receive at other spas. Terme di Aroma provides excellent services, for a reasonable cost! I can't wait to book my next spa package with them!
Pros: Friendly staff, excellent facials, great ambience
Cons: none

My therapists was Rachel. She was so polite, very warm, calming and compassionate about her role. She really did a great job and I truly appreciate it. I?ve been to 3000BC in Chestnut Hill as well as other places but his was a much better experience. From the time I called to make the appointment (the receiver can make or break a deal based upon their tone and willingness to meet the customer's needs) to the time I arrived (on time...), the lounge area, the scent and lighting throughout the place, etc...It was just so very nice and I enjoyed myself. I recommend this place to everyone; Kudos?!

I am very grateful to the people at Terme Di Aroma. I can?t comment on the massage since I never got one but the people at the desk were very friendly. I bought a gift certificate for a special someone and I had to return it for a confidential reason. The people at Terme Di Aroma (especially Maria and Jim) went out of their way to help me. Thank you Terme Di Aroma for your understanding. The next time I am in need for a massage I will definitely go there. I already recommended the spa to all my friends and family.

I'm a spa facial SNOB

When I received a gift certificate to Terme di Aroma I was sceptical about this new place (just moved fr Boston) but went ahead and booked a 90 min facial & aromatherapy body massage + scalp package for my mother. It was rough to park and when we walked into the spa I was a little sceptical of 'not so new' feeling including the dimlit lounge that felt like someone's house. I was used to my regular spa where they give you a cozy robe and slippers etc etc. However, I have to admit the staff was beautifully friendly, positive and helpful. Once my facial began, everything remotely negative up to that point melted away. JESSICA's facial was undoubtedly super fantastic. Jessica paid amazing attention & did not leave the room (which is what every other facialists do after they put on a mask & point the steamer onto your face) for the entire 90 minutes. The facial was one of the best I have ever had & I was practically hypnotized in the room. My mother's body massage + scalp massage was apparently also heavenly. AUDREY was superb with her services. My mother was very pleased & said that she also was a lovely person. My mother is eager to return for more & that makes me able to double recommend this spa.

Excellant Service. The salon staff was very professional (i.e. staff members including the manager introduced themselves to the clients personally, suggested the clients take their time to relax in the louge prior to leaving, did not rush the clients, made the clients feel appreciated) The service I received was fabulous (massage)
I will definately go back

Best Facial and service ANYWHERE
by rh646
I travel a lot-L.A. Miami, Boston, New York and no one compares to the service i get at Terme Di Aroma. I just experienced their new facial Plaisir des Sens 90 minute stone facial. The service there is outstanding. The minute you walk in you are greeted with the smell of the mildy fragrant air-is it lavendar or heaven? The staff is friendly and speaks to you slightly above a whisper to ensure that ALL your senses are prepared for the soothing services you are about to recieve. The rooms are warm and cozy-like cuddling under a blanket on a cold day cozy as opposed to a huge cold desolate room at other spas i've been to. for facials-JESSICA is the person to go to. Her touch is executed with meaning rather than a "going through the motions" feel and she is always polite. the staff never pressures you to buy product nor do they rush you. If you want to escape then head to Terme Di Aroma, you won't be dissappointed. as for JESSICA! who i heard was nominated as best aestetician by Philly mag.
Pros: ambience, friendly staff, service,
Cons: limited on street parking

Should be called terrible aroma!!!
by selimagodio66
This was such a big dissapointment. We came her from New Jersey expecting a world class spa experience. What we received was terrible. The services were all awful, the place is tiny and there is no available parking gararge. The front desk was quite unpleasant and after all of this the constant "odor" permeating this place was nauseating. The front desk manager ( a young man whose name escapes me) was quite rude and when I told him that my massage was really very bad,the room tiny and the constant telephone ringing from the front desk, all he could say to me was-"I guess you won't be returning"> Yes, I will not return. How they can have such tiny rooms with the awful noise from the front desk and the front desk telephones ringing in your ears is beyond me.
Pros: nothing to suggest
Cons: very poor services,a very bad attitude, nosiy and tiny

Just recieved my first services at Terme Di Aroma and it was the most magical place I've have ever visited. I'm not sure if "selimagodio66" was at the same spa but my experience was totally different. The staff were very professional and my services (massage and facial) were exceptional. The lounge that I relaxed before and after my service was very peaceful. The receptionist were very helpful and cordial as I checked in/out. As for the parking, welcome to the CITY! It's not the burbs. Again, I'm not sure if "selimagodio66" is writing about the right spa. I had a wonderful and enjoyable time at this amazing spa in old city. I will recommend my friends and family to my new find.

A small part of Europe in the heart of Philly
by sfamerc
I found a small part of Europe this week in the heart of philly in a place called Terme Di Aroma. After
motnhs of nudging by my daughters to use my father's day gift I finally took the plunge and booked my
first ever massage and men's facial. What have I been missing! I havne't felt this quiet in my mind and
tension free in I don't know how long. Relaxing in their comfortable lounge with its soft music and candle-
light and drinking a cup of delicious mulled cider made me recollect a time in Rome at the home of a
business aquaintance during a siesta. I've heard wherever the Romans went they built a spa. Well that's
what these Romans did, and then some. They can count me a regular!
Pros: Relaxing atmosphere, incredible treatments, evening hours
Cons: Not being able to stay overnight'

most relaxing and invigorating experience
by deers
just went here for my first facial. upon arrival i was escorted into the zen waiting/lounging room, and offered home made apple cider, lemon spring water, or tea. after taking one minute to fill out a no-frills skin survey, i promptly drifted off to sleep...in the waiting room. slightly embarrassing, though no one else seemed to mind. i assume this happens often. the relaxing atmosphere of this spa is so calming and inviting that i did not need a magazine (though there are plenty, from environmentally concious to woman's day, placed in simple rows, not unsightly piles) or a pillow (plenty of these too) to relax. the stone fountain, the low lights, the subtle candlelight and scent, the wall hangings and the faint music all made me feel hidden and comforted and lulled me to sleep. i also enjoyed the lack of pushiness from most of the staff. some spas and salons hound their guests to "get comfortable". here, they acted as my guides, not my pushers. the facialist was a supreme expert. as my skin tends to be very delicate and sensitive, ready to hive at the slightist foreign substance administered, i was amazed how it had little to no negative reaction to any of the products or process. gayle massaged and efoliated in a perfectly balanced manner, not too hard, not too soft. the steam and mists, the creams and lotions, the toner and mask were administered with such care. she uses yonka only-an exquisite plant, fruit, and marine based french skincare line that trumps all others. she also took the time with me afterwards to explain what products she used and how my skin seems to behave. so very helpful and kind, i was very appreciative for her advice and for the two samples she gave me to try at home. i highly recommend this spa and gayle. even though i probably cannot afford such luxury, i will be back. the soulful relaxation alone is worth it.
Pros: ambience, skill, product, professionalism
Cons: having to leave

Terme Di Aroma forever.............Never looking back
by jillfesta
Terme Di Aroma is by far the best spa I?ve been to in Philadelphia. I had
tried out a few spas here during my first year of living in the city, but 2
years ago I tried Terme Di Aroma and I?ve never looked back. I?ve seriously
never been anywhere like it. From the second you walk in, you?re surrounded
by green plants, aromatherapy smells, soft lighting and soothing music.
Everything about it is very holistic, including the staff that I?ve
experienced. The spa also carries incredible product lines?I do all my
gift shopping there.

Room Size of Closet; Noisy
by enoteca30
I went to this highly touted spa. I have been to several other spa facilities including Four Seasons so I write this review with experience. Firstly I was made to wait with no one to ask me if I needed anything for a good 20 minutes. Somewhat weird and embarrasing. The worst part was I got a room (later I read that several other reviewers got this as well) that seriously was a closet. I coulnt even move around properly. The massage itself was ok but started late. I could hear the front desk phone ringing EVERY FEW MINUTES! So much for the "tranquility". The manager had the audacity to claim to me that "our clients use cell phones and we cannot control it". I told him it was a distinct land line ringing that I constantly heard while being massaged. He did not say a word. All in all, off my list and anyone I talk to. There is way too much choice in our beloved city of Philly.

Closer than the Borgota!
by pillacreativegroup
I have visited to the Borgota Spa twice this year. The private rooms were spectacular and who can resist all the bells and whistles? But when it came to a spa get away for total relaxation and retreat from a stressful day, Terme Di Aroma in Old City was the solution! I received a high level of personalized attention, a soothing environment, last minute accommodation efforts and talented massage therapists that made the experience spectacular.

The Absolute Best!
by markymark34
This spa is just heavenly. The staff is incredibly kind and the space is so serene. You feel like you have left the city behind as soon as you walk thru the front door. The facials are AMAZING and Gail, my aesthetician and owner of the spa, really listened to my concerns and was top-notch in her delivery of my treatments. A must for anyone looking for some rejuvenation!
Pros: Price point and sevice, open on Sundays
Cons: no showers

Best Birthday Bash Ever!
by wmusitie
I went in there yeaterday for my birthday, and it was absolutely amazing. I had first an aromatherapy massage with Mercita, who is amazing and relaxing ( but she can be firm so if you want someone who gentle, perhaps ask for someone else) anyhow then I proceeded to facialist Jessica, who was spectacular. She made my skin come of there glowing for hours on, and she was friendly and I had a great talking with her during my facial. Inside is beautiful and the staff cater to your needs, always asking if you need something to drink or eat.
I have been to other spas, and this one is on top of my list!

Great for Neophytes
by gigidemonte
I had never been to a spa before & this was the perfect place. Tranquil, organized and relaxing. True, I went mid-week, but the staff there is geared toward making you happy.
The massage and skin treatments I received were terrific and it really is an oasis in Philadelphia. Lovely robe & nubby slippers and complimentary beverages and relaxing lounges (there's one in the back too!)
They are respectful and will explain things to you in advance and let you decide what makes you comfortable. If you're thinking about trying a spa for the first time, I recommend this one.
Pros: quiet atmosphere, attentive staff, quality services

A Touch of OLDE World
by njah
During my recent vacation in Philadelphia I was pleasantly surprised to find an old world welcome in the Spa Terme Di Aroma. I was feeling exhausted after exploring the sights, with three teenagers, until my feet ached. A lady in the Betsy Ross House recommmended that I visit the Spa Terme Di Aroma, just around the corner on 3rd Street. I was given a very warm welcome to the Spa and a really comfy seat in one of their lounges with beautiful decor and a tranquil atmosphere. The staff talked to me in such an unhurried way I felt as if I was back in my home town where people have the time to listen and talk. The services i received were excellent. I look forward to going back, my next visit to Philadelphia.
thanks
Pros: service, lounges, peaceful decor
Cons: none
