I have been taking my cat to dr. mckinstry for almost 20 years, and she has consistently remained the best vet i've ever seen. in response to the two negative reviews below, cat vet has NEVER been open on sundays, so you must be mixing up vets. also, as a past vet tech, even i know that you NEVER clip ringworm lesions - which, even after 2 visits can present differently and be difficult to diagnose.

My cat is a himalayan, 10 years old, and a complete ragdoll even under stress. The doctor was able to handle her any way she wanted and the cat didn't even flinch, much less try to bolt, scratch, or even meow. I pointed out two lesions on my cat, and she said the cat possibly had mites. She pilled her, sent me home, and that was that.
Needless to say, the lesions spread. They started to look very, very consistent with ringworm to me. I took her back, but the vet assured me this was "food allergies". She did ANOTHER round of treatment for mites and fleas and sent me home with a $150 bill and $30 food. The food caused my cat to have diarrhea non-stop (and she's not a fussy eater) and the ringworm went rampant. The third and final time, she took one look and said "oh, yeah, this is ringworm." ...well, of COURSE it is. That's what I had said before. She hadn't even offered to culture the cat and said it was unnecessary--more unnecessary, apparently, than what was now about $200 later treating for something my cat DIDN'T HAVE. She has also refused to clip my cat because it can spread the spores. I know from experience that if you use a 10 blade, not a 40 blade, you stay far enough from the skin to not nick the cat at all, and for a cat with a dense undercoat, it's critical. Her ringworm is rampant and I'm taking her to the UPenn vet hospital because shampoo and miconazole spray are not going to cut it (she's about 60% covered in lesions and bald spots, and it just breaks my heart because it was so preventable). Do NOT trust this woman to actually diagnose your cat.

We've been taking our kitties to Dr. McKinstry and her staff for over 4 years and I couldn't imagine taking them to anyone else in the City. They truly care, and will go above and beyond to help! We have several "special needs" cats and I always can count on Cat Vet to be there for us and to offer the best and most loving care.

Dr. McKinstry is a fantastic, gracious, expert cat vet that I have been using for over 14 years now. Dr. McKinstry is a true animal lover, and a superb vet. She has diagnosed issues w/ all of my pets so early, that she has saved their lives. Dr. McKinstry went to the University of Pennsylvania vet school - which is top notch, and she stays up to date w/ the cutting edge research in her field. Dr. McKinstry takes the time to explain all options and all treatment plans, and I have never been rushed at any of the appointments. In fact, she even gave me her home phone number when she knew I was nervous, which is totally uncommon. The bottom line is that Dr. McKinstry is a top of the line vet! She does not run one of those vet mills were you get a new doctor in training at every appointment, and none of them never stick around. You see Dr. McKinstry. Her practice is staffed by dedicated folks who you also get to know year after year. I only wish that I could get as good care as my cats at my primary doctor's office!! You cannot go wrong w/ this Doctor, and your pets will LOVE you for it! cafsiamesecatlover

I have taken my cats to Cat Vet since 1996. I have always found the doctor and staff to be caring, thorough and realistic. The office staff and doctor area extremely accessible over the phone in case of question re: medicine or symptoms. They offer good pricing. Highly recommend.

I have been going to Dr. Mc Kinstry for many years and she has always been incredibly knowledgeable, caring, kind and patient. She has taken excellent care of my cats and the entire staff is wonderful. Since Cat Vet of South Street has never been open on Sunday in the many years I have been going, perhaps the review by Lacey was meant for another vet.

We have a very difficult cat, as she is extremely scared of almost everyone. As soon as we walk into the vet, she starts of hiss and make growling noises. The vet, Dr. Elizabeth McKinstry, never complains or comments on how hard she is treat, and always gives my cat the care she needs. I get quick appts at reasonable prices. Every tech has also been great.
