Paradigm is very trendy and a lot of fun! The prices are a bit on the expensive side, but the atmosphere, food and drinks are worth it! I've had a few nice nights out with friends here.

This is a great place to stop for a drink and a snack. The Tuna appetizer is incredible. I would also recommend the Filet dumplings. Yes I know that's different but they are great. The funniest thing is the bathrooms. They have clear glass doors. It freaks people out. When you turn the lock a screen like material shades the glass. I get a kick out of watching people walk up and walk away because they are afraid to go in.

I came here with my boyfriend for restaurant week and loved it. We did have to wait a bit for our table, but the bar had a lot of options while we waited. The food was great and the atmosphere is wonderful. The bathroom doors are a little strange (they're see-thru until you lock them, then they turn opaque), but other than that I loved the place.

Went with a date on a Friday. I've been to Paradigm a few times and really liked it so I thought I'd check it out on my way to a Philly's game. The wine list is solid. I'm not a wine geek, but I do know my way around a wine list and like that they don't just load up on the obvious Napa/Sonoma choices. Cocktails were fantastic. If you order a mojito, the bartender actually cracks the ice before pouring a generous amount of rum into a chilled glass. Dinner was great. I had the requisite Calamari which also blew me away. I'm not really a calamari guy, but my guest insisted and the server told us it is a very popular item. I expected rubber but got very tender, crispy calamari as well onion and green beans-another pleasant surprise. My steak was cooked spot-on and my guests halibut looked like something out of a food magazine and was also cooked perfectly. Our server was quietly awesome! We weren't in the mood to socialize and she did not intrude or get all in your face and tricky about it, she just brought us what we needed.

I went to Paradigm Restaurant over the weekend and had a great night out! The service was attentive, the food delicious and the drinks were made to perfection. I had the mediterranean linguine and bread pudding! Both so delicous that I didn't want to share....but i did so I could have some of my date's shrimp appetizer and filet mignon! Great food, Great Atsmophere, Great Place!

Dave -- the owner -- is HORRIBLE. We had a reservation tonight and were asked to move to 3 different spots and waited about 30 minutes for our table because they gave it away to a party that was ONE HOUR LATE. Before we sat down, the hostess (L) told us that we would get a free round of drinks for the inconvenience. As we ordered, we told the waitress that the first round was free and she said she would confirm with the hostess (and never followed up). However, when we got the bill, they charged us for all of the drinks and added a 20% service charge. When we confronted the owner, the hostess denied that we ever had the conversation and the owner said that he never authorized the charge. So we ended up paying for an entire round of 10 people's drinks when we were explicitly told that it was on the house. TO TOP IT ALL OFF, on the way out, we were stopped by the bouncer and prevented from leaving the restaurant because there was a miscommunication that we hadn't paid the bill so we were literally held back until he could confirm that the bill was paid. Finally, it took a good 15-20 minutes to get our car from the valet. All in all, the service was HORRENDOUS and the food was average, at best. THE OWNER IS AWFUL.

Came here with my coworkers for happy hour and we were quit surprised by the cheap drinks & great appetizers! They have $3 martini specials and an array of fingerfoods. We ordered: eggplant parmigian which was so good, we ordered another; the duck spring roll was also delicious, so we ordered 3 all together...or maybe it was 4.. anyways, we agreed these two were the best on the list. We also ordered the chicken dumpling, crispy calamari, and the bacon wrapped mozzarella...for $3, these were OK. This place is not as bustling as the other nearby restaurants, so if you want to sit around drink and converse without screaming, this place is a nice spot to meet up for happy hour!

We ended up trying Paradigm because of its location. We had no idea that it was so nice on the inside. I ordered the crab cakes and salmon. They were both great. The atmosphere was wonderful because you could watch the people on walking by while eating. I really enjoyed that. Also, the desserts are awesome . The Godiva soup was out of this world. Overall, I highly recommend the restaurant. I liked the food a lot!!!!!!

My husband took me to Paradigm for my birthday. We just happened upon it while walking around Old City. It was a Friday, so the bar area was a bit crowded, but that didn't interfere with our meal. For an appetizer we shared Spring rolls with duck, which were very good. I had the Halibut. It was delicious. My husband had the Lobster Fra Diavlo, which was a little different from what we expected, but really good as well. After our entrees they brought out a piece of cake with a candle, that was a nice touch to a great meal. I would definitely return and recommend Paradigm!

The plan to go to Dolce / Paradigm began with high ambitions. I invited in friends from out of town to celebrate New Year's Eve. We reserved a table and I paid $450 in advance (this price included two bottle service bottles).

Upon arriving at the club, they would not seat us at our reserved table until 11PM, and we had to pay for our drinks until we sat down at our table! To make it worse, they left dinner tables on the dance floor all night, so there was no dancing. They also didn't allow the DJ to set up and play music, so we listened to an Ipod mix all night. To top it off, my jacket was stolen from the club, and they kicked us out of the front door before I could even look for it. I lost a cell phone, an expensive jacket, and over $200 cash.

To make things worse, they charged an extra $200 to my credit card several days later. They have been giving me the run around ever since.

My words of advice, don't go to this place unless you want to get robbed!

Just got back from a Restaurant Week visit to Paradigm, which started out with our party of four being seated around 8:40 for an 8:00 reservation we promptly showed up for. After an extensive delay, our inattentive waitress took our orders. Appetizer was smoked mozzarella wrapped in prosciutto, which apparently underwent some sort of tanning process to make it match the consistency of leather, and was presented on a plate of soupy tomato sauce with sufficient care to make me wonder if I was viewing the results of a particularly sloppy challenge on Double Dare. My wife's spring rolls were a little better, but waiting 15 minutes for her empty plate to be cleared afterwards dampened my enthusiasm. Next, "crispy duck" with a caramel glaze, or as Paradigm prepares it, spongy-textured, overcooked duck with leathery, fatty skin, with watery mashed sweet potatoes on the side. A trio of thoroughly unremarkable desserts, accompanied by no coffee because we were never asked if we'd like any, provided a perfect end to a completely forgettable, transcendently mediocre meal. Stay home and cook yourself before you ever even think to come to Paradigm, because here is a restaurant that clearly, simply does not care about the food they are preparing. And I didn't even get to try out the magical liquid-crystal bathroom stalls.

Pretty ambience, decent service.. but oh the food. My friend and I each ordered gnocci and some sort of chicken, neither of which were good.
One of the worst dining experiences in terms of food for me, up (down?) there with Le Castagne. Don't go here. There are plenty of great restaurants in Old City and around Philly.

this place is an embarrassment to old city. I made reservations for New Years Eve bottle service. Paid 240 in advance, and was promised a table and mixers to be ready at 1030. I arrived at 11:15 only to find a long line outside the place. The restaurant had taken dinner reservations all the way up to 1030 , and not only were our tables not ready but the place was at fire house capacity. We had to wait outside for over thirty minutes and then finally tip a bouncer 30 bucks to get inside when we had already paid cover and table service. The place was mobbed, there was no new years eve countdown, and i had to beg a manager for a refund when there was no table open. The manager was rude, the bouncer pushed me when i was trying to talk to the manager. the entire place was just a disaster. you could not pay me to go back. i called the day after new years to complain again and basically they apologized and have no compensation. DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE OR DOLCE. it was insane, famous seinfeld quote, you know how take the reservations but you do not know how to keep them, and really that is the most essential part.

I recently had dinner there on a Saturday night with 7 other people for our friends birthday. I made the reservations at 8pm for Paradigm and they sat us in Dolce at 8:15 by the door that was constantly opening every minute. It was very cold out and we asked the hostess if we could wait for another table, b/c we didn't want to be freezing all night while trying to enjoy dinner. The hostess then moves us to another spot in Dolce, not Paradigm and gave us menus for both restaurants. It was very dark and we had to use our cell phones and the candles on the table to see the menu. Our waitress was okay, but messed up a few times throughout the night. My lemon shrimp and my salmon was awful. The other guests I was dinning with didn't like their food and thought the prices were outrageous for less than average food. I honestly don't know how this place stays in business with the less than average food they give out to their customers. We were celebrating a birthday and asked the waitress three times to please bring out the dessert so we could sing Happy Birthday and she kept bringing out coffee, sugar, milk and other people's dessert at the table before she brought out the dessert for the birthday girl. I was very disappointted with the service and especially with the food. I would never go back and neither would anyone who had dinner with me on saturday night. I would also never recommend this place to anyone I know. There are much better places to go in the city and I would recommend going anywhere else.

All I can say is that I have never been so disappointed with something in my life! I suggest that if you want to start your night off right....you should go somewhere else!!! The food is fair, the atmosphere is fair, and the servers like to try and sleep with your boyfriend behind your back!! Do me (and your significant others) a favor and STAY AWAY!!!!

My grilfriend and I ate here on a Saturday night and everything was amazing! First, we got there around 7:30 and were seated promptly. We had a nice booth and an excellent server. Our server was very knowledgeable and reccommended great dishes for us. Our appetizers were excellent. Our server reccomended the seared tuna and langostinos. Next, we enjoyed a bottle of barolo which matched well with the filet and crab and the lamb chops. Also, the bread pudding and cheesecake were amazing. Overall excellent experience. Thank You...we will be back.

This place is not so great for food. If you're desperate, go for atmosphere, but don't expect more. I tried those fillet dumplings and there's nothing worst than an over cooked piece of fillet mignon.

my girlfriend and i have been to most places in old city and i always seem to be left unimpressed by food and service but paradigm has finally given me a reason to deal with the traffic and commotion of the area. we came last saturday and were promtly seated with warm fresh bread placed on the table as we sat down. our waiter was very knowledgable of the menu and spent time answering all of our questions. we shared an appitizer of fillet filled dumplings which my only regret would be that i didnt order more, they were excellent. we both were convinced to try the fillet with crab meat and for good reason, i have never in my life been more satisfied with a peice of steak. all in all we had a wonderful time and will certainly be back.

Every time I go back home, I tell my friends what a great time I had eating out in Philadelphia. NOT THIS TIME.

A few highlights of our experience at Paradigm on a Saturday eve:

1) The bread took forever to arrive, and when it finally did, they brought one basket for a large party (we had to ask for a 2nd basket)

2) The food also took a long time to arrive. When it did, some side dishes were missing and we had to remind them.

3) The waiter mixed up an entree order and brought out the Ginger Soy Halibut dish to my girlfriend instead of a pasta dish she ordered. She was so hungry she accepted it.

4) The Halibut was dry and was lacking flavor. The sauce that accompanied was so peppery it was barely consumable.

5) The waiter didn't put in the drink orders correctly and forgot one

6) After the food was served, the waiter NEVER came back to ask how everything is.

7) With the exception of the lamb, nothing else we ordered had much flavor. Unfortunately the lamb only came with 4 small chops. After I offered my girlfriend one piece (since her halibut was average), I was left with 3 little pieces and was still hungry at the end of the night.

8) Oh, I forgot to mention the spinach salad was soaked in the worst dressing imaginable.

9)The last straw: The restaurant pre-calculated a 20% tip and added it to the bill. For what?

10) When one of my friends complained to the manager about everything & asked that we be allowed to leave a smaller tip (15%) because of his inattentiveness, the manager came back and chided her. I swear to God. The manager came by and spoke very aggressively to her. She said they already took off the salad from the bill and tried to educate my friend on the role of the waiter (huh?! what does this have to do with the fact that EVERYTHING was awful, including the waiter's service?!)

A bad dining experience is one thing, the manager coming over and reprimanding one of the people for complaining, that was a first.

I made a reservation for Wednesday night at 9pm through opentable. The reservation was originally for 3, but our third cancelled at the last minute due to car troubles. We arrived promptly at 9 and were told by the hostess our table would be ready soon. My friend and I sat at the bar, had a drink (my tangerine margarita on the rocks was delicious), and before we knew it, it was 9:35 and still no table. We repeatedly asked the hostess about it and were told that people had stayed longer than expected, but a table should open up soon. Meanwhile, a party of 4 came in after us and were seated right away.

I realize that it would be ideal to seat 2 people at a smaller table, but if a reservation for a larger table was made and other tables are not free, I expect the larger table. By 9:50 we still had not been seated, and I was so angry we decided to leave. I called the manager over and she apologized, paid for our drinks, and offered to seat us right away, but I had decided 15 minutes before that they were not getting any of my money that night. She also said that this was a recurring problem during restaurant week, to which I replied that they should have learned from past experiences and booked fewer reservations. I would rather have been unable to make a reservation and gone somewhere else than waste an hour of my time.

Ultimately, the drinks were great, but the service was subpar to the point that we never got to eat.

I made a reservation for Wednesday night at 9pm through opentable. The reservation was originally for 3, but our third cancelled at the last minute due to car troubles. Paradigm (and Dolce) has the best buffalo mozzarella and tomato appetizer. The buffalo mozzarella is fresh and creamy, by far the best I've had - anywhere! The rest of the menu is delightful as well...never had a bad experience or meal at Paradigm!

Pros: great food, reasonable prices, great ambiance

Cons: table of two was pulled into the center of two main rows of seating - was a bit awkward

First, let me say I have visited Paradigm for drinks only and I had WONDERFUL experiences. The bartenders were great! Drinks were fabalous..But DINNER is another story. I decided to take my boyfriend out for a nice dinner at Paradigm. Even though a couple of my co-workers told me to stay away, I decided to test the water for myself. WHAT A BIG MISTAKE! It was during resturant week in Philadelphia. We had 7:30 reservations. We arrive at 7:20 and 4 couples were seated before us. Not a big deal. Being an African-American, I try to give EVERYONE the benefit of doubt before assuming that race has anything to do with it. After my boyfriend, asked what is the wait time, the hostess rudely answered him, that she was looking for a table even though we saw 4 or 5 tables open. She advised us to "Stand to the side" until she could find something. STILL, I chose to ignore her attitude. After FINALLY being seated, we were approached by a very nice waitress by the name of Ashley. She promptly took our orders. When we recieved our plates, we were very shocked. Our portions were HALF the size of our counterparts. Our salad had little to no dressing along with 1 to 2 croutons while some salads were running over with croutons and dressing. Our main course arrive, our filet mignon was to die for...It was cooked to perfection. Our mashed potatoes were good also even though the portion was 1/3 of our counterparts. The bread pudding was delicious also. I know my review may seem to be over exaggerating the portions but believe me they were not the same as the other patrons in the resturant. Being from the South, I am use to the racial barriers and the different types of treatment in various establishments. I have tried to look over the situation but in a culturally diverse city as Philadelphia, I expected to be treated the same as others. I'm sorry to say, I will not be visiting Paradigm eating or drinking purposes.

On a saturday evening, my husband and i came across paradigm. A very friendly young man convinced us that the food was great and ushered us to a large booth. The atmosphere was beautiful and our server ashley proved very knowledgable and was probably one of the best servers we could have asked for. She helped us to pick a few of their signature appetizers and entrees, none of which we liked. The food was overpriced for what it was, and the flavors were bland at best. The only thing that we liked was the service. The bartenders, waitresses and bus boys were all great! New chef perhaps?

This is not a restaurant in my opinion, it is a nightclub. It also owns and shares a kitchen with the place next door which is also a nightclub, even worse. I do not dine in a nightclub, I made that mistake once here and was rewarded with the most irritating hip hop rap b.s. music while I was trying to relax and dine because that is what it switches to around 10 pm. One benefit of the music was however that it distracted me from the disappointing overpriced food and bad service. Word of mouth has dinner crowd amongst locals almost non existent. Quit the charade, advertise as a nightclub, no one wants to dine on a table some other guest was grinding on while dancing the night before.

As a center city hotel concierge, I go out of my way to make sure people get to Philadelphia's best restaurants. There are new trendy places popping up all over the place thanks to inspiration by Stephen Starr, but this place is the original. The food is phenomenal and the portions are well worth the cost, which isn't really going to break the bank. The ahi tuna appetizer (phenomenal) could serve as an entree, and the duel gnocchi plate is enough for 2 people (at a steal for only $16) I've always been a fan of this restaurant and I've only heard kind remarks and "thank you" from guests that I've sent there. Might I add the outdoor seating in the summer is lovely and the bar is well stocked.

My wife and I had dinner at Paradigm last week for our anniversary and it will be one we won't forget. I called a week prior to make reservations for our special day. When we arrived we were sat in a large comfortable booth, just close enough to see all the action but just quite enough for a romantic dinner. We shared the grilled smoked mozzarella and Thai duck spring roll appetizers, they were done perfectly. I ordered a filet and my wife went for the almost 3 pound steamed lobster. The entire evening was perfect Food , Service and Atmosphere. We're not waiting for our next anniversary we'll
be back there soon.

After reading the reviews on citysearch I was looking forward to a great evening. Unfortunately, this would not be the case. Our waitress took forever getting around to taking our order. The special we ordered wasn't what we got and the Shrimp Carbonara contained Five shrimp Two with shrimp and three shells. Trying to get anyone to help resolve the situation was nearly impossible so I ate what was served and left VERY DISAPPOINTED.

I recently had an unbelievable experience at Paradigm restaurant. I came in with a large group of co-workers with all different opinions and expectations. We were promptly seated and wowed by the excellent service. The atmosphere was cozy and the music was just right. Every one of us enjoyed the food immensely. We decided to skip our next destination and stay to have cocktails at Paradigm instead. Since my first visit to Paradigm, I have visited again and enjoyed it just as much. I urge those of you who haven't tried this hot spot to do so.

Went here after someone recommended it to me. It was seriously so disappointing. The waiter was so rude the entire time, and the restaurant was practically empty. He was constantly coming to our table, checking to see if we were done, and after the 5th or 6th time he asked my friend if she was done, he just told her he was going to take it anyway (he was not joking). It was ludicrous. My lobster ravioli was cold and bland...just by covering something in cream sauce, doesn't mean it's going to taste better!! The waiter then gave us our desserts and practically kicked us out a second after. I want to say I felt bad for leaving a bad tip, but this was honestly one of the worst dining experiences I have ever had...and I am not a picky eater...

First, Im very picky, but I was truly impressed with this place. Me and a couple of coworkers went on a Thursday for happy hour. To our surprise they had a great happy hour special and the place has a cool, sophisticated, yet relaxing vibe. We enjoyed a few $3 appetizers(try the duck spring rolls) then decided to stay for dinner. I had the Seafod Risotto, which I must say is probably the best I have ever had. My coworkers had Filets which they raved about. Our server was clearly an experienced waiter which Im sure helped make our dinner seamless but the manager was also very attentive. I read the other reviews and maybe we caught the place on a good night but wow it was REALLY a memorable experience. In a neighborhood full of restaurants this is a unique little gem with a soul, I will be back!

... I had lunch there last august , and I hated the service, it toke a long time between the appetizers and the main course, and the food wasn't good as they say it is!!!
I tried dinner over there, and the food was better, but the workers are still the same, in fact I can not forget the manager's attitude and behavior!!!

I was there on a Saturday night with friends, we had reservations and were seated on time. Our waiter Rob was very friendly. We started with appetizers and ended with a drink at the bar. From beginning to end all that consumed was very good and enjoyable. The desserts were to die for. If looking for an indulgegence and nothing else go there for dessert.
