Our family is pleased to have the Carlisle Small Animal as our veterinarians. With each appointment, the staff greets our pets with kindness and affection. Respect and concern for our pets welfare is their number one priority, whether a yearly checkup or a health issue. As our pets are now seniors, age related problems are occurring. Our largest dog receives a monthly shot. She happily goes back with the techs to receive her shot, and returns with tail wagging. When our pets time comes to leave us, we know that Carlisle Small Animal will treat them like family and will share in our loss, just as they have in the past.

I have been taking my cats to Carlisle Small Animal Clinic for over 20 years and during that time have had the opportunity to meet and interact with all of the doctors and staff there. I have found them all to be very knowledgeable, compassionate and caring. I recommended them to an animal rescue group that I work with. Carlisle Small now provides medical care for a majority of cats and dogs that come through the rescue organization.

I took my sick 16 year old dog Goldie to the Carlisle Small Animal Veterinary Clinic August 16, 1995 and the vet said his bones were deteriorating and he "probably" had bone cancer. (No definite answer to what was going wrong with him, and if it may be curable or not). He was sickly for a while and some medicine I was given before to try on him didn't do any good, so it seemed it was the time for him to be "put to sleep". I gave the doctor the okay, and the doctor gave him the shot. Goldie didn't die peacefully. He had some horrifying panic attack going on first. The vet told me he wasn't in pain, just a wierd feeling he was going through made him jump around and yelp, as if that was some kind of comfort. Pain or not, there was misery happening to him through this shot. The "doctor" had to give him another one before his fear subsided and death took him away.
I heard they are supposed to make pets go unconscious before a vet gives them the fatal shots. What I wondered that night and every time I drive past that miserable place is why the hell didn't this vet do that? Why did he just give him the shot that kills him and leave him awake to suffer through the horrible "wierd feelings" that frightened Goldie so much before he died?

I happen to have six dogs, three cats, and two parrots, all of whom have been clients here here for years. Another dog of mine has since passed on and received the best possible care there. Their expert care and compassion they receive are second to none! From the time you walk into the door, the staff makes you feel right at home. Their techs and the doctors themselves are VERY knowledgeable and treat each pet special. It is NOT just a job to them and they make you feel like part of their family. I myself have worked at another veterinary clinic about an hour away many years ago, so I do know what working in that type of enviroment entails. I am also involved in rescue work and I can tell you that the support we receive from Carlisle Small Animal Clinic is more than one could ever expect. We are truly blessed to have them care for all of our pets as they do. I would trust no other clinic as I do them!

I had taken my dog to the Carlisle Small Animal Clinic for 5 years for routine exams and was generally satisfied. Last month i took her back in for a surgery (tumor removal). The suture work looked like it had been done by an intern and came undone within a day. I was told it was because she was "licking at it". Long story short, I ended up having to pay an additional fee to have the wound resutured. Two days ago, we took her to a new vet because she was sick. Turns out she had an internal tumor which they found via Xray (CSAC never bothered to do any post surgery exams). She died in surgery yesterday. Thanks Carlisle Small Animal Clinic.

The receptionist are thoughtful and well read. They know a lot and you feel like they are listening vs pushing you off to the very busy tech. They really worked with us and our rescue. We would highly recommend this Vet!

I took my cat in with what turned out to be heart problems. I saw two female vets. They were very thorough, and referred me to a specialist for more information. They were professional and concerned about getting the best care for my old kitty.

Different answers from different vets for my cat's urinary problems. No consistency depending who you saw. When I asked for the same vet to "stay on top of" the cat's record, that vet told me if I wanted his review I could bring in samples when he was working. Very rude, and needless to say I took my business elsewhere. Not a lot of warmth toward the animals, either.

PROS: Location
CONS: No warmth or consistency

The doctors at this vet's office are split down the middle; some very competent, some not so. I brought my kittens in twice; the first time, the female doctor was very business like and did not seem knowledgable about my cat's eye problem; the next time I requested a separate doctor, he was fantastic. Bottom line is, ask around, you'll find out who's the best.

PROS: Some excellent doctors!
CONS: Nurses and a few doctors are too business like.
