I went to Golden Thimble for alteration of two pairs of pants and an A-line skirt from a friend's recommendation. Lisa Chang is the tailor there. She did a superb job. The pants and skirt fit perfectly and exactly the way I wanted.

I am very skinny with shortcomings on all the typical problem areas, so if the tailor does not possess great skills, it shows right away. Not only is she a good communicator, but also extremely knowledgeable on tailoring. Having graduated from a design school in South Korea, Lisa knows dress-making and tailoring inside out. She listened to my concerns and pinned the pants to exactly how I wanted them. You can tell she is good just from the way she pins the pants. The pants turned out to not only fit me perfectly, but also covered up all the problem areas and played up what I've got. My legs look longer and my butt doesn't look droopy.

For the skirt, at first, I tried to change the A-line to a pencil, she recommended against it and gave me good reasons for consideration, so I followed her recommendation and I'm glad I did.

Before Lisa, I had tried multiple local dry cleaners and seamstress. They were cheap but the job was rarely up to my standard. I rarely had job done right the first time and often ended up spending money and still don't have a wearable pair. Although Lisa charges a lot more, $186 for 1) taking in the waist, seat, and thighs for one pair of unlined pants (~$80), 2) taking in the seat and thighs for another pair of unlined pants ($60); 3) taking in everywhere for an A-line skirt ($46), it is still so much worth the money, as I will be wearing these pants and skirt over and over and over again, so the per-wear cost per garment will end up a lot lower than if I'd taken them to the local dry cleaners. If you want to get a suit tailor-made by her, it's going to be ~$800 just in labor.

My next step is to take my suits and dresses to her shop.

There are two other tailor shops in the Norristown area, European Tailors and Nick the Tailor. I haven't tried European Tailors and neither has my friend. My friend also recommended Nick the Tailor, as her neighbors had jobs done there and were satisfactory. Alledgedly, he charges less. However, when I called, he told me that he was too busy and couldn't take any job. Nick is definitely scaling down his business. I may try European Tailors when I have other pants to alter in the future to see if they can do a good job.

In short, Lisa in Golden Thimble absolutely does an excellent job. It's worth taking the drive and spending the money at Golden Thimble even though she charges a lot more, if fit and quality are your primary goals.
