I bought a 2001 Expedition at Capital Auto Auction for $1700. The car was so clean inside and out. I drove it home with no problems what so ever. I was surprised to see all the great deals at this auction. If all the cars run and drives as good as this one you can't go wrong. I did see some cars that obviously were not as good as this car but I believe people bid accordingly. After I purchased the car everyone was sooooo nice and helped me get my tags and registration. Make sure you dress for the weather because there is absolutely no heat.

Worst auction on the east coast. Green light vehicles are supposed to have a warranty for engine and transmission for ONE HOUR. Most vehicles are bound to fail within a few days. They top off the fluids to quiet a bad motor and removed the check engine light completely. Furthermore they have the absolute worst customer service. The gathered all the white trash in the north east and hired them. Specifically Angela. who could easily be the biggest b!tch I have ever seen in my life. And that is an understatement. Its almost like they enjoy arguing. I would avoid this place at all costs. Yeah you can get a cheap car but it will cost you 10 fold in the long run.

Have gotten some great deals here. Where else can you buy a car for $300? They tell you up front that they do not check to see if the cars work or not. They get them from places and sell them. No guarantees are made. It is more of a buyer beware situation. I had friends who had major problems with AS-IS cars they purchased and as long as you do what they need they will help you out. Do you really expect to buy a car for $500 and not make any repairs...... If you do I have some snake oil to sell you!

You should beware of some of the other auctions. other places make slick repairs to cars that wont show up for a few months.

You see my car started to act up and I took it in to get fixed and found out that it was going to cost me more then it was worth to fix it. So I went on a mission to find another one. My travels brought me to the Capital Auto Auction. I had bought cars at auction before so I knew the risks but I had good luck in the past so I figured what the hell. I looked at several cars and I was ready to bid. Well I got outbid on all the cars i wanted. I sit and watch AT LEAST 7 cars that were either smoking, knocking, spewing fliuds etc come through the line. Then this car comes onto the line. Hmmm that looks really nice the interior looks new and there is nothing wrong with the body and the engine sounds great. Well I bid on it and won. I go to pay for it and they say "this has a minimum bid amount on it and you didn't reach it so we have to get it approved" ( i took this as a good sign). Later that night I get that call that it was approved ( I wish now that it wasn't). So I come back on Tue to pay for it and their credit card machine is down so I will "have to come back tomorrow". So that brings us back to this point in my story.

Well I get there and sign my slip and all of my paperwork and I head over to the title and tags area. I realize at this point that I didn't have my car so all of my registration, insurance etc is in front of my house. So they are not able to give me my tags etc. However, the guy says oh dont worry you have up to one week to get it here and then after that you will have to wait 6 to 7 weeks. We are also open tonight for an auction so you can just come back and get it done later (Ok that sounds good). So I go to get the car and after walking all over the lots I finally get a guy that says "i better meet you at the car because it is going to need a jump" (ruttt roww shaggy). Umm is that a bad thing I say. No they sit for a long time here and more likely then not if you let it run for an hour or so it will be fine, your also almost out of gas. Before I could say anything my girlfriend asks the guy "well will he be able to start it at the gas station?" response "Yeah no problem". Well as you can predict it didn't start. Also while I am standing there this guy is telling me how he bought the same model car and found out later that that model is prone to catastrophic engine failure but as long as I dont have the 2.7 liter engine I am fine. Well as the guy is saying this I pop the hood to get it jumped and sure enough 2.7 liters. Ok relax I am sure not every single one fails everything will be fine. I get the jump and start on my merry way. Now by this time it is easily breaking the 100 with the heat index. I get about 4 blocks down the road and it start to smoke and spew fluids everywhere!!!! Auuggghhh

So now what???? Do I cut my loses and call a junk yard or do I tow it to a repair shop and see what i am into. Well after a very long cooling off period I opt for the tow. So i get on the phone and call AAA the friendly operator gets on the line (thank goodness she was I was in no mood at this point for the philly attitude that's for sure) and she says "is this insured and registered in your name?" reply "um well I have the paperwork I just bought it and they said I have a week and ..." friendly neighborhood operator "sir that's illegal you should have never drove that off the lot I am not sure if we can tow it". Well I kept my cool which thank goodness I did because she opted to look the other say I guess figuring my day was already bad enough. So i get it to the repair shop and figure I know what they are going to say but I am going back to that auto auction and give them a piece of my mind. Well that went as expected "as is sir" "we cant stop you from breaking the law sir" "there are signs that say sir". The next day I get the call from the mechanic needs new engine, New radiator, new transmission and he is sure that it needs more then that because of the smoke/over heating issue. Call the CAA again and not willing to do one thing to make it right. And that my friends is the rest of the story.

If you buy here you have to understand the risks. I've bought good cars here and I've bought bad cars here. Thats the price you pay for bargains at auto auctions. If you want to purchase a vehicle under "akuna-matahtah" (no-worries) conditions. Go to a dealer and buy new, 0 miles. You'll be broke for five years but hey, no hooptie headaches for you.

I am writing to express my extreme disappointment in this business. While I fully understand that the vehicles sold are sold as-is, and I can??t take any legal action , I still wanted to express what my situation is and how upset I am. I purchased a 2001 Dodge Intrepid on your online auction last Saturday February 20th. I paid for my car and went to pick it up this past Saturday February 27th. First of all I understand you say online that the cars are not inspected by a mechanic, but I wish I would have been warned about the issues this car had. I knew was too good to be true, such a nice exterior and such low miles. When I was given the key, the car wouldn??t even start. I had to get it jumped 3 times in order to get it off the lot. Thankfully I had been paid the day before so I took it to Auto Strauss and got a replacement battery, an oil change and the spark plugs changed. They noticed the knocking in the engine (which had been mentioned on the auction) but I didn??t have the money to repair the engine. Well after these repairs my family and I were on our way home, we live in Trenton NJ, and on Route 1, I tried to accelerate in order to change lanes and the engine made some very strange noises and died. Thankfully I was near the outer lane and was able to safely pull the car over. It wouldn??t let me steer or brake. When the tow truck mechanic arrived, he said the engine had blown out! Imagine my surprise! I had just spent over $2000, on the car, title, tags and registration and then another $400 to fix it and now the engine was blown. Plus my family and I spent the night stranded in Philadelphia!! Is this the type of cars they pride themselves on selling?! I am extremely disappointed, because this money could have gone towards my bills, other forms of transportation or my family in general. I realize I can not sue or even get any type of refund, but I am just expressing my disappointment. It was very sad that I didn??t even have the car a full day before it died on me completely. What a shame, and what a waste. I feel like Capital is such a scam.

These guys are dangerous. Stay off. I bought car, sent a shipper to pick it up. They sent the wrong car and refuse to reimburse me for cost of transporting the wrong car. In addition, they refuse to send me the car I bought.

They keep changing their stories to fit the moment. Do not how they sleep at night!!!

i am in need of 2 vehicles and thought about going to capital auto auction but thanks for your story about the poor customer service and business practices they use. i will definitely steer clear of this place and suggest it to everyone else. BAD BUSINESS PRACTICES, POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE deserves this type of publicity. Sorry, capital auto you will not see one dime of my money

I bought a dodge neon from here that was a greenlight car ( which means it has a one hour warranty) I brought my mechanic up there when I picked the car up and he checked the car out and in 30 min said that the transmission was bad, so I turned the car back in. They said the car would be fixed in 3 days, after a week they said that the car was fixed, I had my mechanic come once again and he said that the car had not been touched and that the same problem was wrong, when I question them about it (capital), they said that if I did not take the car, it would be towed and destroyed, they refused to show any proof that they had fixed it. Here I am still with a car with a bad transmission, that was under warranty. Stay clear of this place.

I BROUGHT A GREEN LIGHT SUBARU VEHICLE. I DON'T KNOW WHETHER IT IS GOOD OR NOT. I DID NOT PICKED IT UP. THE SUBARU VEHICLE HAS A GOOD REPUTATION ON THE INTERNET. WHAT UPSET ME WAS THE VEHICLE WAS CLEAN BODY AND INTERIOR AND THE ODOMETER READ 109,121 MILES. ONCE YOU BUY THE VEHICLE, YOU MUST GO AND SIGN FOR THE VEHICLE WHERE THE MAN IS DOING THE ANOUNCING OF THE PRICE. THIS IS THE SLICK PART. PLEASE PAY CLOSE ATTENTION. THEY WILL ASK FOR YOUR MONEY, OR CREDIT CARD FIRST. THEY MAY GIVE YOU YOUR GREEN SLIP. THE MAN WALKED MINE INTO THE OFFICE WHERE YOU FINISH THE PAPERWORK. MAKE SURE THAT YOU DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR GREEN SLIP BACK. THEY CAN CHANGE INFORMATION ON IT AND THEN SAY THAT YOUR SIGNATURE IS ON IT. WHICH YOU REALLY DID SIGN.ED BEFORE THE INFORMATION WAS CHANGED. WATCH YOUR ODOMETER READING. THE TITLE MAY SAY ONE THING BUT THE ODOMETER READING ON THE CAR ANOTHER. THAT IS WHAT HAPPEN TO ME. I WAS SUPPOSE TO BE PURCHASING A CAR THAT HAD 109,121 MILES WHICH THE CAR ODOMETER READS AND END UP PURCHASING A CAR WITH 179,079 MILES. THEY CHANGED THE ODOMETER MILEAGE ON THE PURCHASING PAPER AFTER I SIGNED IT. THEY WILL NOT GIVE YOU SATISFACTORY. THEY KNOW THAT THEY ARE BEING SLICK. GREEDY FOR MONEY.

PROS: MAYBE SOME GOOD VEHICLES, YOU MUST FIND THEM.
CONS: THEY WILL BE SLICK AND CHEAT YOU OUT OF MON EY, IF YOU ARE NOT CAREFUL.
