D & K is the best outlet I have been to. The prices are great for families and the buys are fantastic. I am from maryland and everyone there raves about costco and sam's club, but you could save more money if you shopped at D & K. The stock changes weekly, so you must buy when you see what you want. I recommend it highly, especially in this economy, if you're trying to save real money.
I began shopping at D&K when they were just a small store at another location further north on Rt. 74. Since they built the larger store I shop there even more. We buy many items to give away to the Veterans at our post. (chips, pretzels, etc.). I stock up on many items such as canned goods, snacks and frozen items. Their lunch meat prices are the best around and it is always fresh with a wide selection. Their items vary as they are forever getting new stock from different places so you always have different things to choose from. The only complaint I would have is the younger crowd working there are not very respectful. Some of them will run you over with skids if you aren't careful and don't know the words, "excuse me". You do have to watch expiration dates on some things. I do love shopping at this store and I recommend it to many people!
My husband and I are newlyweds and have a tight budget. Shopping at D&K has been a great way to indulge a little. Now that the economy isn't so hot people aren't buying the expensive brands of ice creams and snacks form the chain stores so D&K has even better stuff than before for the same great prices. Check expiration dates though!
I started shopping at D & K when I was on a budget buying food for Girl Scout camping trips and have shopped there ever since at least once a month. Good prices on snack foods and lunch meat for packing lunches. My only complaint would be about the teenage employees being more concerned with socializing than working but the good prices are worth this annoyance.
I used to live right over the MD line. We used to do the trek to D&K every month or so. I now live in South Carolina and can not find anything even similar to D&K there. I am coming up to MD at the end of the month to see my family and one of the places I plan to go is to D&K. It is about a 45 minute drive, but well worth it. I have always gotten great deals from everything, cereal to sunglasses.
We drive all the way from Baltimore, Maryland about every 3 months to the D&K Surplus Grocery. The grocery has been our favorite for years. You cannot beat their prices on canned goods and juice. We pay 1/3 to 1/2 the prices we have to pay here in Baltimore. They have the best deli department at the lowest prices we have found. It's worth the trip for the savings on lunch meat. We buy 10+ lbs. at a time and freeze. The store is clean, the bathrooms are spotless, the selection is terrific. I believe it is owned by Christians since they often have Christian music playing.
I try to get out to D & K once or twice a month. The big draw for me is the fact that they tend to have a good variety of organic items at a quarter of the price of most grocery stores. (Just be careful of expiration dates.) I wish that had more convenient shopping hours as well.
If your on a tight budget or if you have a large family or a house full of teenagers, this is the perfect place to shop. They might not have everything, but they have a pretty big variety! My only problem is picking up too many cheap snacks!! I have found that you can freeze most of them for a later time and they are fine. They have a small deli for lunch meats and salads, large bags of frozen chicken pattys, wings, various items from week to week. Doesn't have a fresh vegetable/fruit section, but that's okay support your local farmers for those items. Milk, eggs and bread are there too. Lots of good stuff. Try it you'll like it! It's on Route 74 in Red Lion.
D&K came highly recommended by my sister. D&K is a surplus grocery outlet. The only one of its kind around here. I love it. I get such great prices on anything from canned goods, juice boxes and frozen foods to fresh meats at there deli. I was so thrilled the first time I went there. I saved so much. You do have to watch expirations on items though to make sure it is within its expiration date.
we shop at d and k about once every two weeks, and no one can beat there prices, they do not accept coupons, not a very clean place but certain items you can really get very cheap and fresh, we love stopping in and browsing if we are in the area. great
PROS: brand items cheap
