Ishkabibble's is a true diamond in the rough. This little known treasure makes some of the best cheese steaks in Philly, and is located right in the heart of South Street.

Definitly the place to go for a chicken cheese steak if you are on South Street or even just in Philadelphia. I have not tried their traditional cheese steak so I cannot comment on that but I have had both their regular chicken and buffalo chicken cheese steaks and both were exceptional. If you are not in a hurry and the seats are available (there is very limited seating) I would suggest sitting in. My girlfriend was turned off when we went there on a summer evening because it was not air conditioned but once you sit down the breeze from the fans and the open store front are enough to keep comfortable.
Big portions, both times I have been there I only needed to eat half the sandwhich to feel full, save it for leftovers or plan on splitting it with a friend. The large cheese fries are very big. Getting a soda, sandwhich and order of large cheese fries will run around $15 but is enough to feed two people easy.
I have eaten at Jims, Pats, and Genos and so far Ishkabibble's is my favorite (Jims taking second place).

Easy to find, Right across the street from the TLA.

Pros: Great chicken cheese steaks for here or to go

Cons: Limited seating

I had their chicken cheesesteak lastnight...it was pretty dried and blank (bread got soggy after walking one block); i wouldn't recommend it. However, the cheesesteak was pretty good, and the Spanish fries was addictive.

Often overshadowed by its overrated neighbor, Jim's, Ishkabibbles quietly produces the best cheesesteaks on South Street, without the 1/2 hour wait.
Their chicken cheesesteaks are truly unique- they cut chicken into cubes and then marinate it before tossing it onto the grill. This both imparts it with a wonderful flavor and keeps the chicken nice and juicy, unlike the thin frozen slabs typically served as chicken cheesesteaks, which are incredibly dry.
While the beef is not quite up to the standard of their chicken, the cheesesteaks are still good, far better than the chewy, pathetic excuse for a steak that you get a Jims.
Its a small hole-in-in-the-wall with a garish neon pink and yellow awning. There is barely room to stand inside, and youre lucky if you manage to grab one of the handful of barstools.
This is the best chicken cheesesteak in Philly, bar none.
