Dr. Eynard and his staff have been taking care of my \r
5 year old dog since he was 4 months old. I'm a nurse and I feel confident in saying that the care my dog receives AND the follow-up is better than a lot humans receive. \r

This is the worst vet I've ever been to. The doctor is some French guy who clearly does not care for animals at all. He treats every animal that comes in like a lab rat, and shows no human compassion that you would expect from a vet.

I have a 12 yr old cat that chewed on a cactus and I had to take him to the emergency room. They noticed he had a gum infection, so we took him to this vet. When we brought him in, the first thing he did was go on and on about how old the cat is and how we need to consider our options (which was really great since we had just gone to the ER the other day, and didn't make any sense since he is as frisky as a kitten). He then bombarded us with pamphlets and brochures on everything from FIV to tick medicine. We told him that the cat stays in our apartment all the time, doesnt even go into the hallway. But he insisted that he could still get ticks.

Then he finally started the exam, and very roughly handled the cat. Naturally, the cat clawed him a little. The vet was in quite a shock, and said "you didn't tell me he had claws!" He insinuated that we should consider declawing our 12 yr old cat because he was obviously not used to dealing with an animal with claws. Then he complained that the cat was purring too much and he couldn't hear a heart beat.

He told us that the gum infection was too serious and that since he has a mild heart murmur it's a risky surgery. So we should go to a specialist that would cost us $5000...for a TOOTH REMOVAL. We decided to just get blood work to rule out anything serious.

The whole ordeal cost about $300 (for a checkup, a vaccine, and blood work) and left me in tears thinking my cat would be dead any day. This guy is a monster who can't wait to put your pet to sleep. I'm amazed that he's still in business. If you love your pet and your wallet, STAY AWAY!

(I ended up taking him to The Cat Vet on South Street who is the best and most honest vet I've encountered. She solved his "dire" problem rather easily and cheaply. And my buddy is doing wonderfully!)

Since I moved to Philly for grad school 3 years ago, I've been taking my dog to Fairmount Animal Hospital (reluctantly). Had the same experience on my 1st visit as described in an earlier review - Dr. Eynard gave me a stack of pamphlets, then showed me jars of worms & bugs that could end up in my dog. When I asked which vaccines were absolutely necessary, I was told it was my decision & that it was his "responsibility" to give me all the facts. Based on such fear tactics, I never trusted him like I did my previous vets, though I kept going for routine checkups as my dog was never mistreated.

Recently when I ordered heartworm meds online (as I had done previously), I was told they will not signoff on the order unless I signed a release form. Sounded reasonable, until they refused to fax, email or mail me the form - I had to come in in-person. They then tried to persuade me to buy the meds from them (even offered me a free pack). When I went in to sign the form, I was told they do not deal directly with online pharmacies. I would have to pay $5 for a written prescription but I could only get it for a 6-month supply (they won't give 12-month prescriptions to online pharmacies).

I might have tolerated the fees & "policies" had I received exceptional care, but that was the last $5 they will get from me & I will find another vet who will actually value me as a customer.

I am new to the area, so I scheduled a "meet and greet" to choose a vet. I was swamped with brochures and recommendations for all kinds of shots and pills--this was a shock considering my previous vet limited my dog to just what was needed and didn't like to see animals on a lot of meds. The vet literally did not address my dog for 45 minutes-and then only after I suggested that perhaps he should get to know him. After standing for that long (there were no seats whatsoever in the exam room, also a first), I was a bit irritated. His exam was quick and for a potential concern I had, he referred me to someone else. It was just an odd visit all the way around and it really made me question his care; it was very disappointing since I live within walking distance and would love to support a local business.

I would like to say that their front office staff was very friendly and pretty attentive to us. I have also used their grooming services, which were very good and quite reasonably priced.

Cons: Pill and shot happy, little interest in my dog

I've been taking my cat to this clinic for about 2 years and recently started to Bring my new kitten. The staff is always great and everyone is always so patient and helpful with all my questions. I never feel pressured to do something I don't feel comfortable with and pricing is usually explained and seems fairly reasonable. The doctor is a bit of a close talker and sometimes I don't understand his accent but he's a pro at what he does. I get peace of mind here and that's what me and my kitties need.

We took our cat here once, and the vet wanted to give her shots for about 6 different things. I refused everything except the required rabies, and he pulled out all sorts of awful worms etc. preserved in jars and tried to talk me into all these extra shots for our perfectly healthy, indoor only cat. The final bill was also about $100 more than I expected. Now that we've switched vets I am having a horrible time trying to get them to fax the records over to our new vet.

My experience at Fairmount Animal Hospital was extremely positive, and I continue to go there. The vet is very nice, and spent a full hour on the first visit to explain about vaccinations, diseases that humans can catch from their pets, and veterinary regulations. I found this extremely useful because like most people, I am not a veterinarian, and I do not have the doctor's expertise. My first visit at Fairmount Animal Hospital was very useful because I could choose what my pet really needed as basic preventative care. I could not afford everything, so the veterinarian explained what vaccines my pet really needed based upon my pet's life style. Like one of the previous reviewers, I too wanted to get an online prescription. However, I found that although the veterinarian did not want to deal directly with online companies, he did provide me with a written prescription, and I was able to deal directly with the on-line company myself. I strongly disagree with the reviewer who found this veterinarian to be unprofessionnal. This veterinarian was very professional and thorough, and his staff was extremely knowledgeable and courteous.

Cons: Older building undergoing renovation.

I had to take my dog here when my regular vet was on vacation. They did an excellent job with my dog. They also have Saturday hours and some evening hours are also available.

We just moved to the area and heard about Fairmount Vet and due to a problem with our little dog, took him there for treatment and diagnosis. Dr. Eynard was wonderful with us, the best vet we have ever seen. He took his time to explain the problems we were having as well as all treatment options, leaving it up to us to decide under his guidance, not as one comment said below... we were not "forced into anything" and I trusted him and his staff completely. The prices were fair and the whole staff was so kind and helpful to us.
Glad to have found such a wonderful vet in the area!

We have been using Dr. Eynard for the past 3 years. His care is excellent. He is extremely knowledgable and loving with our pets. We would highly recommend his clinic. His clinic routinely calls to follow up on care.

I brought two rescued cats, one male and one female here late at night and the vet was very nice.
At the time he accepted a low cost spay/neuter voucher and he altered both kitties for me. They were fine after, and lived a very long time. I appreciated his care and concern. He also clened them uo for me.

PROS: Good hours there.

I just didn't trust the guy, and was forced to spend more money at another vet to get a trustworthy opinion. The review above sounds like advertising to me which is violation of the TOS for this site.
