Dr. Moore and his staff are most caring and capable. They go out of their way to accomodate their clients. My pets have always been cared for well. Dr. Moore goes the extra mile to exhibit kindness and gentleness to my pet

Don't go here if you value your furry member's life and companionship. I made the mistake of trusting them.

For the longest time, this was the only veterinary establishment I had been to, so needless to say when you've only gone to one place you don't know any better. This place is neglectful and sells you expired medications.

I was preparing to have my dog placed in a pet hotel which needed to be cleared by a vet for shots, etc. before checking in. I brought him there earlier in the week and received a "clean bill of health" along with prescription eye drops for his eyes. I drop him off at the Pet Hotel, only to be called by them within the hour and informed me that (1) His eye drop medication was expired (2) He had urine in his blood and (3) Had to bring him to their onsite vet, who found that he was also "flea invested." How did the Avalon Vet not catch all of these things?!?!

I never thought to check the expiration date on the medication (shame on me for trusting that they had their ducks in a row).

More recently, I had to put my dog to sleep due to his old age. I initially elected not to have his body come back (Saturday) but felt terrible all weekend so as soon as I was able to get a hold of the receptionists on Monday morning, I asked if it was too late to change my mind -- luckily my dog hadn't been sent out yet and she told me she would change the paper work so that I would receive my dog's remains back for an extra $40, and that he would go out in a few days on Wednesday and return the following Wednesday. The following Wednesday comes along and I receive no phone call ... I call them at 5 p.m. and someone tells me the Cremation Guy hadn't come today. A few hours later, I got a phone call from the Avalon Vet and was informed that the lady neglected to fill out both papers for the Cremation Guy and my dog was "mistakenly" mass cremated -- as a result, I will never get his remains back.

I am devastated and livid and I don't want anyone to go through the experience I have with these people. If you go there, make sure you babysit them and call them every day or physically go in there to make sure they do their job thoroughly. Otherwise, bring your furry friend elsewhere. Shut this place down.

This veterinary hospital sells/carries expired medication and has sloppy staff. My dog needed eye drops for his dry eyes so I went to the vet to obtain the eye drops, only to discover later that the drops were expired. Recently had my dog

I have been going to Avalon Vet for over 25 years and have never found a better place for my animals. Years ago (when I was a single mother with 4 children) we have quite a collection of dogs and cats and Avalon Vet made arraingments for payments plus the multi-pet discount! Anytime any of the animals is sick, they will make sure my pet is seen that day. My daughter moved to the eastend of town and found a vet near her new home...she's back to Dr. Moore!

I very highly recommend Avalon Veterinary Hospital. I have taken all of my pets there, as did my family. They have been smart about treatment, compassionate, caring and reasonable in their approach to proper treatment. In my experience, they don't get crazy when an animal has reached end stages of life, but do everything possible to help and to make them and their person/people comfortable. I drive well out of my way to continue to take my dog there because they are that good.

For the most part, I have had good experiences here but yesterday I called to get a refill for Metacam for my 13 year old dachshund and was refused the refill because another vet who worked there (who wasn't there that day) that had prescribed it didn't notate why it was prescribed in the record. After answering numerous questions from both the person that answered the phone and another vet and assuring both individuals that my dog is doing better since she started taking the medication, I was told to wait a few days and see if my dog's condition worsens before refilling. The reason for this supposedly is because the drug has side effects which can create more problems (don't all drugs though?).

Bottom Line: While I appreciate the staff's concern, if another member of the staff had previously prescribed something that is helping my dog, I shouldn't be put through the wringer when I call for a refill.

The Avalon Veterinary Hospital staff has treated my pets for over 20 years. I have taken cats, rabbits, fish, and a turtle there. The prices are always very reasonable (cheaper than any other clinic in the area), and I have never been charged for follow-ups.

Dr. Fitzgerald provided an affordable diabetes treatment plan for my cat to prolong his life from a few months to three healthy years. And when he suddenly went in to kidney failure and diabetic shock, I was only charged for the treatment--not the emergency appointment fees. The staff was extremely considerate when my cat passed.

My other cat gained a reputation as a menace. But the staff was always accommodating and never complained--not even when she required 4 people to hold her down just to get her shots.

When I was sold a diseased turtle a a child, Dr. Moore was very kind and did not charge for the visit or the medication. He recognized my interest in science, and patiently answered all of my 11-year-old questions and showed me how he made slides and how his microscope worked. (I would later study Biological Sciences and work as a laboratory technician.) Dr. Moore also took exemplary care of our rabbits, who all lived unusually long lives.

I could give commendations of these vets and their staff all day--I highly recommend this veterinary hospital!

My son has lovingly apoted our dog Lefty. Dr. Bigger has been great with Chris but others Vets in the office have not. Chris works very hard but cannot afford expensive clothing and had comments made behind his back. Lefty has been back to Avalon at least 3 times and has not gotten any better, he has lost a great deal of weight and has stopped eating. I have done research and have notices he shows all the signs of Kennel Cough, which can be passed to other animals if it is viral. Chris has never been told exactly what Lefty's problem is and if he should do the humane thing for Lefty, and if what Lefty has is contagious to my other pets.

I was in the waiting room and a vet tech was walking with a puppy and she really yanked hard (really hard) on his leash and scolded him. Her rough treatment of that pup made me uneasy. That same visit, I found out my cat had kidney and thyroid disease. The vet said he didn't recommend treating both conditions and to just put her on a low protein diet. I took her to Met Vet after that and she's still with me over 3 years later. She gets thyroid medicine every day and subcutaneous fluids every other day and she is doing GREAT. These treatment options weren't even mentioned to me at Avalon Vet. My cats are my children, and I now take all of them to Met Vet because they understand how important my pets are and treat them accordingly. I do not recommend Avalon Vet because they don't explain all of the treatment options available. I wasn't looking for a bargain, I just wanted the best care for my cats.

I've been using Avalon Vet and Dr. Moore's services for over 20 years. They have been wonderful to all of my pets. All of the Vets and techs as well have treated me, my parents and all of our animals with respect. Dr. Moore has a wonderful staff. There have been times where I've been unemployed and my cats have needed emergency treatment. Dr. Moore came in on a Sunday a few years ago, to help me because my baby was going to die. He treated her and she was better in 2 days. I couldn't thank him enough for helping me, all I could do was donate some food and toys to the animals. I appreciate all of the help (financial & medical) that he has given me and my cats.

A very loyal patient of yours... Steffi, Minki, Dixie Highway & Gizmo.

I recently moved away from bellevue and found a vet closer to my home. After being used to Avalon Veterinary hospital for so many years, I couldn't believe how expensive the other vets were!! I have decided it is worth the trip to go back! At the new vet, it cost $170 and my dog was only there for his annual visit and had no problems! So I switched back to Avalon, and last night I took 2 of my dogs and it was only $160 for both of them, and that included bloodwork and shots. If you are complaining about the price of this vet, all I can say is good luck finding someone cheaper. There have been times where I have had to bring a pet back for multiple follow up visits and they have not charged me one penny for the visit. And they have always been very caring and understanding when my pets were ill. My only complaint is that the waiting room is small, so when it is busy it is difficult to keep the dogs away from each other.

When my rabbit, Lily, was injured in a fight with my other rabbit, Dr. Moore took care of her wounds and prescribed a topical spray to be used daily. When I told him that she reacted badly to the spray, he gave me a cream and didn't charge me again - he just had me return the spray for office use. He scheduled her for 2 follow-up visits and I thought "here we go - $$$" but he did not charge for the 2 follow-up visits. I thought their prices were very reasonable, something I have found is not so with other vets. Lily has since recovered fully from her wounds and I will definitely call Avalon Veterinary Clinic the next time one of my pets requires vet care.

I started taking my cats to Avalon Veterinary clinic about 4 months ago.
They are a mom and pop kind of place and wonderful nurses. Dr. Fitzgerald is outstanding and very helpful. Sadly we had to put one of our babies down because she had FIP, but they were so thoughtful and caring. We also got a kitten spayed there. They kept her overnight which i really liked, most places now don't keep them at all. I would highly reccommed the office and Dr. Fitzgerald to anyone in the area.

I have been going to the Avalon Veterinary Hospital for years - they are wonderful! My vet, Dr. Joel Bigger, has taken care of many of my sick animals and he was very compassionate and caring. The only negative thing I can say is that as of January 2008 their rates are horrendous! I have 4 dogs that I take there and they have always given me a "multiple animal discount". I recently took one of my dogs for his checkup and I was charged $73.00! Granted, he did need both of his shots(that came to $26.00), but almost $50.00 for the check?? They didn't even take his temperature or offer to cut his toenails, clean out his ears, etc! I took one of my dogs in December for the same type of checkup and was charged $54.00 - they even charged me for "hazardous waste disposal" this time! Toooooo high priced - even though Dr. Bigger is great, I may have to find another vet so I can afford to keep my dogs healthy!
