we like the dim lit area and my husband loves the brews. other patrons make it pretty loud and obnoxious but the pub cannot help that. overall great experience.

Service was great! Decent beer selection. Food was really tasty but limited choices. Nothing groundbreaking but a great place for lunch. Brewer is happy to discuss recipes.

A few friends and I stopped in here one night and had a great time. The atmosphere was excellent, a little dark and smoky and mysterious. The booths were great, as were all the bobbing head dolls. They also have some great microbrews that I would instantly go back for.

Great selection of Beers and fun stuff to look at like their collection of vintage Nodding Heads dolls. They have very good selection of beer too. Don't have fantastic selection of food though.... French Fries are good. This place is for a college crowd.

I've been there twice, once for brunch and once for dinner. I really enjoyed the food at brunch and the bloody marys, and the live jazz music. Sandwiches for dinner were good, not the best. Fries were okay. I'm literally addicted to the sauce for the fries.

This place is good for an after shopping beer with friends. Basic bar food with good beer. like most places it can get crazy at night or on the weekends get there early and don't plan on staying long.

Pros: beer

i originally came on Citysearch when someone suggested Nodding Head to me. I read the bad reviews like "arrogant Scottish waiter, too dark, too noisey, too loud, etc..." and thought "this is MY kinda place". great homebrew beer for about $5 a pint, great fries, and a decent atmosphere if you're into a dark beer and a darker bar. one of the better pubs in the city.

Pros: brew/fries

Cons: parking, but its sansom. what do you expect?

I took a few friends here, a couple of beer people like me, and Nodding Head was a disaster. I attribute this mostly to the waiter who was a rude, holier-than-thou type industry guy that turned the night a special kind of worthless. He blathered cloaked-insults at us through his scottish accent, and, when we joked back at him became nasty. He was, as the bar is, worthless. I'll never go to Nodding Head again, guarenteed.

Pros: you might find a beer you like, but probably not

Cons: the waitstaff

If you like Monk's, you'll like Nodding Head. The food is very similar, outstanding muscles and sandwiches. The only difference is that here the brews are in house. Having tried many of the micro-breweries in the area, I would say that for beer alone, this gets the prize.

Nodding Head Brewery and Restaurant is a great place for both food and beer. They have great fresh brewed beer and American classics. I love ordering their burgers with a glass of frosty. The food portions are large and very tasty.

If Nodding Head were a round of darts, it would score a few bulls eyes. Not only are the darts fun with a few home brewed beers, but the jukebox rocks, the mussels and fries are delcious, the crowd is friendly, and best of all the staff has zero attitude...that's a first for Philly. The cute "Nodding Head" collectible dolls on display also add to the charm and ambience of this local watering hole.

Pros: Darts, Home Brewed Beers, Zero Attitude

Cons: No outdoor area, Table for dinner only

While I admit that I left Nodding Head with a satisfied stomach there isn't much more to write about the place. My boyfriend and I went for a Monday lunch and both ordered burgers and beer - he enjoyed his beer and so did I, but the food was nothing to write home about. While the french fries are probably homemade, the burgers are run of the mill.

Everyone raves about the burger, so i had to drop by and try it. It's not too bad (i had better), but the fries were freakin' GOOD! Not the fries itself, but the dippin' sauce. It was a Sunday, so they had live jazz band.

During the day, this place is great. The service is dynamite and very very friendly. At night, this place blows. Avoid it like the plague. The food is slow. The service is rude. And it's ridiculously loud.

The sandwiches are very good and the fries are excellent. The bartender during the day is a pip (that's a compliment). Go for lunch. You won't be dissapointed.

Pros: food and drinks

Nodding Head is one of my favorite pubs in the city. Tasty beer, great food, reasonable prices. One of the very few pubs that actually brews their own. Usually you can find a table pretty easily, though it gets inexplicably crowded sometimes. Yes, their policy of not letting you sit at the tables unless you're ordering food does suck. And yes, they have an occasional "off" night where the food or service is subpar. But on the whole, after maybe 20+ visits, I like this place.

I celebrated my friend's birthday with 12 people here a few hours ago. It took forever to be seated. We waited at the overly crowded bar and had 60 Shilling beer. It took the waiter about 30 minutes to get us our drinks. Then we gave our orders and it took even longer to receive them. We had Sample Starters; tasty but very oily. I had Fish and Chips (God Save the Queen!). Everything was overcooked. I was losing my appetite since it took so darn long to get our order. I asked for a drink and didn't receive it until minutes before we left. I wanted to like NHB but the service was the slowest, food was overcooked and greasy, and it's TOO noisy. I'd go here for the bar only. Check out the cute display of nodding heads. Parking is a pain; the nearby parking garage's EXTREMELY expensive.

What an awesome place to cap a night on the town! Great beer, friendly bartenders, and a frelaxed atmosphere make this a great place to wind down an evening with friends. And what is cooler than a showcase full of bobbleheads!

The food is OK, but the service is horrendous. Once I was there with friends for late night drinks, and we wanted to sit at a table. We were informed that the tables were for people ordering food only. We protested due to the fact that there was NOBODY eating in the restaurant and that every booth was just sitting empty, but to no avail and we actually left and went somewhere else. I've been back since for lunch and received similarly rude service...totally unacceptable.

Being a Travel agent it's my job to find the hidden treasures for my clients, and I have definitely found one in Nodding Head!!!
From the time I arrived until the time I left I was treated like a Queen. The staff was not only informative about the wide verity of delicious food and homemade beer, but they were extraordinarily attentive to every need that arose. The light beer has little flavor, however the dark "Grog" is absolutely amazing! Nodding Head is now at the top of my short list of Best Brew Pubs in the Philadelphia area, if not the country.

I have never been disappointed here. Sometimes the burgers seem small, but they are outstanding. Entrees (except for the Jambalaya - leave it for the Cajuns to do) have always been good. The Grog is a first rate brew.

Where do I start. In a city that seems so caught up with its own scene, Nodding Head sneaks under the radar and remains a very happening neighborhood spot in one of the most boring parts of town. attentive, confident servers mixed with straight forward and delicious cuisine and libations make this place a bastian of normalcy among self centered and short sighted restaurants. terrific, well made food, great beer, Excellent music (ie. pavement and the clash), and awesome service-bethanty and the brendans especially- will keep me coming back.

I had called on a Friday and made a reservation for 10 people for 7 o'clock on Saturday night. We showed up, our table was ready, and our waiter was great!! Two more friends joined our party unexpectedly, and they added another table - no problem! Great service, good food, and good beer. We spent a solid two hours there, and never felt rushed. Highly recommended!

A group of 6 of us ate here last night. The waitress repeatedly forgot our drink orders and we waited about 1 HOUR for our food. Burgers and salads do not take that long to cook, so that means they didn't even start cooking our food for 50 minutes. It was not very busy either at the time so that is not an excuse. To top it off they charged us 18% gratuity. too bad because I would have left half of that. The food was OK at best but we were so mad that it ruined our night.

I just ate at Nodding Head and I was impressed with the food and beer. The hamburger I had was so juicy (huge mushrooms, peppers, and large burger as well). The fries were delicious. They tasted like authentic frites from Belgium (even had the sauce they serve it with). The tart European beer on draft was exactly what I was looking for. I have been trying to find a "fruity beer" reminisant of Belgium and this hit the spot. This is a great place to have a large portion of good food and beer for not a lot of money.

Taking over the former location of the Samuel Adams Brew Pub, Nodding Head Brewery brings better beer and a much less corporate-chain feel to the upstairs Sansom Street pub. Good, reasonably priced lunch choices are a step above what you might expect - interesting, creative fish of the day, great smoked meats and fishes (done on premises, even vegetarian choices.

I love beer. I love different beers. I love beers with a dark color,,, nutty flavor,, malts,, ambers,, etc. The GROG was fantastic. smooth,, kick,, taste,, after taste. It was great. My wife is not a beer drinker,, and she still had plenty of other choices. For beer lovers,,, Chimay,, Trappiste,, Piraat,, Rogue,, Corsendonk,,,,, the selection was almost endless. Waitress brought samples without hesitation. Fantastic service and reasonable prices,,, the food was excellent too! Thank you for a great time. Park far away so you have time to walk off the buzz.
