I've been going to this gym for almost a year. They have given me more reasons to dislike it than to like it.
First, the amount of elderly people that go to this gym is just ridiculous. You can NEVER use the pool, so do NOT sign up based on the fact that they have one. There is always over 30 seniors in there. The one lane they provide for sign-ups (when there aren't classes) is very small and people are still standing in it anyway. I have also seen at least 3 ambulances outside picking up people, and I don't go every day.
Second, there is never a machine to get on. You've got to sign up for the machines, even if they are being used by someone standing there talking. There is a rule that you can't sign up for cardio machines for more than 30 minutes. That doesn't help free machines. While you're waiting for a machine, you can go into the weight room. If you stand there for a second and look around, you can see the trainers staring at gym-goers, giving dirty looks, and they very much look as though they are making snide remarks. Then, you can look to the left and see that people getting off the machines ARE NOT CLEANING THEM. The gym trusts people to clean the machines when they get off. Would you trust someone you didn't know with a potential disease-causing germ? Neither would I. On top of all that, it's even hard to get one of those weight machines.
Third, the owner and some lady named Rhonda are rude. My boyfriend has developed a serious health condition that we are treating. We are on what I assumed was a "joint account," being that it's only charged on my credit card, and we got a deal by joining together. Well, this Rhonda person let me take a hiatus for three months first, but didn't let me know that they were going to extend my contract for three months after that. (By the way, I saw NOTHING in the contract about them being able to do that.) After we figured out that between working and going to the doctors, we would not be able to make it to the gym at all, I called to see if I could cancel my contract. That's when she yelled at me for using the words "joint account." She informed me that I would need to talk to the owner about canceling my contract, but in a way in which she felt like I didn't deserve my contract canceled. I said that was fine, and she took down my number so he could call me back, BUT not before telling me that both of our accounts would be charged for next month either way. The owner never called me.
Bottom line: THEY ONLY WANT YOUR MONEY.

I just recently joined the club - The club is clean and has great team exercises, however there are so many rules; one of them is to sign up for the cardio machines before use (Rule 1). The problem with this is that sometime members sign up to use the machines and they don??t use them, thus members that want to use a machine can not. No First Come First Serve.

It appears the management does not speak against bullies and discrimination.

One early Saturday morning, I got to the club early and wanted to try the aerobic class that just started, I had my boots on with my workout clothes and my tennis shoes in the bag since members are not allowed to wear their workout shoes outside (Rule 2). I went straight into the aerobic class thinking I could just change my shoes and don??t miss a couple minutes of fun.

While I was changing into my workout shoes, I got a surprise of my life. The instructor literally came from the front to the back of the room, grabbed my bag and shoe and THROW ME OUT of the room while yelling over the microphone speaker not to bring my personal stuff to the exercise room (Rule 3).

There were staff members at the front desk watching the incident, and nobody said anything.

And oh, I forgot to mention that this rule (Rule 3) wasn't posted or displayed anywhere. You would think it will help new members to know what the unbreakable rules are before they are harassed.

I went to the locker room to put my personal stuff and cried a little, then went back to the front desk to share my frustration with the staff members, and a lady who I later found out to be the manager said that the instructor is always harsh, and she doesn??t like it when people bring stuff to her class, and the club supports this.

I felt like she is indirectly telling me that the club doesn??t care if you are bullied. More importantly, I felt so humiliated and discriminated on because of my brown skin or black.

I have witnessed the same situation where people of opposite skin color brought their personal things to a class and no one raises an eyebrow and this includes instructors.

I approached the front desk once again after my workout to ask about the procedure to report this incident so that I can get a closure.

The lady who was at the front desk at this time called the Manager who happens to be one of the ladies who witnessed the incident, and was also one of the staff members I earlier shared my frustration with (who couldn??t help). This time, she told me that she talked with the instructor, and that the instructor apologized to her. Well, for a minute, I got a little confused because an apology should be coming to me, and not to the club manager or the club.

Moreover, she mentioned that the instructor??s class is hard, the instructor is Harsh? and so forth. I felt like she was giving me reasons to stay away from this instructor??s class because of the reasons known to herself or the club.

Joining Club Julian was one of the best things I have ever done for myself. I am a longtime member of 16 years and I look and feel 10 years younger! When I first walked into the club, I saw all of these happy, smiling, fit people. I wanted to be one of them - and now I am! Club Julian has an inviting atmosphere, that??s welcoming and clean. On top of all of that, they have a really enthusiastic and friendly staff.

For my 35th birthday, I received a gift certificate to Club Julian. I was not athletically inclined and over time, my sedentary lifestyle caught up to me - a pound at a time. I met with a personal trainer - there's no charge for it either! - and started a routine that fit my lifestyle. I have lost 90 pounds in 10 months and feel like I can do anything. Club Julian's flexible hours allow me to work out late at night so that I can get that "me" time in. Their supportive and professional staff helps me stay in shape!

I have been with Club Julian for over 5 years and have never seen a more spotless facility in any of my travels. The Club??s 24-hour schedule allows for very convenient workouts. Plus there are discounts for students, families and people with UPMC, Highmark, or Coventry health insurance ?? and no additional charge for personal training! You won't be disappointed.

I love that Club Julian offers personal training at no extra charge with a membership. In a year, I lost 65 pounds and over 30 inches overall and my BMI is normal. And, I have been able to maintain my current weight for the last 6 months.

If you want to join a gym that charges you a higher fee while charging only half to someone else then by all means join. Be forewarned, they will not tell you how much it will cost until they decide what criteria you fit. If you are not bothered by a water fountain splashed with human blood then join. If you like waiting in line an hour or more to use a machine because the person is using it as a chair while they talk then join. If you like finding human body hair and soiled Kleenex in your locker then join. If you want to park in the parking lot next door and find your car has been robbed or vandalized then join. If you like getting sick every two weeks with the flu and rashes because hygiene rules are ignored then join. If you want to be photographed while working out by members with cell phones then join. If you like waiting and waiting to use equipment then join. If you like creepy trainers who refer to members as idiots then join. If you like a club where the trainers refer to members as idiots on facebook then join. Don't believe me, then join and find out for yourself.

I have been a member at Club Julian for over 18 months and have had great success in maintaining a healthy lifestyle with the various fitness programs offered. Unlike other clubs, membership there includes many amenities like personal training, swimming pool and many fitness classes, to name a few. It is a clean, spacious facility with very knowledgeable staff. I would highly recommend Club Julian and have recommended it to friends and family.

As a member is his 70's and who travels thoughout the east coast this is by far the cleanest club I've ever been in. Friendly service from the employees, they are always willing to help. For me personally it is a very diverse and socially amenable enviroment. That is to say most members are friendly and easy to get along with. I would definately recommend Club Julian to my friends and family. Bob C.

I am a current member of Club Julian (Sept 2009), maybe not for long but my options are limited geographically - I am looking at other gyms!!! If you like waiting for equipment and an EXTREMELY crowded locker room, you'll love Club Julian. If you like searching for parking most of the time, you'll love Club Julian. If you like a steam room that reeks of eucalyptus like Vicks Vaporub ... which drains out the sinuses of all those using the steam room (snotting and snorting and coughing - it is so GROSS and DISGUSTING) ... you'll LOVE Club Julian. They indiscriminately allow members to have eucalyptus oil sprayed in the steam room and it is STRONG. By the way, the 24 hour "claim" is a farce, just check their REAL hours. For the price (they aren't cheap), I'd say GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!!!!!!!!!!!!

First off, I like the fact that the gym is open 24 hours a day for the majority of the week. They do have a lot of weekly fitness programs available (step, cardio, yoga, etc.); however, I am disappointed with the fact that they offer the kinds of classes I like only one time a week. Everyone is very friendly; however, when I inquired over the phone about joining, they were extremely reluctant to discuss membership/initiation fees, and avoided discussing it at all costs. I would like to see this place have child care available.

I was a member of Club Julian for several years. This gym is VERY clean and well staffed. The trainers are knowledgeable, available and helpful! I always felt like I was treated as part of the family when I would go there. They are also very affordable and the hours are great!

The only downfall is that they do not offer childcare. That made it difficult for me to fit in a workout when I had to find someone to watch my kids when I would go.

Overall, I loved the place!!!!
