Husband and I wanted a steak dinner. Last time we visited The Cottage was about 15 years ago. First indication was the parking lot had two cars out front and two in the back, one of which was loading beer into the trunk. Went in back door. We were greeted and immediately seated and asked if we had a drink order. I ordered a vodka martini straight up and my husband ordered a beer. The martini arrived half empty in a regular size martini glass with a LIME! My husband was not asked if he wanted a glass for his beer. The bottle was just plopped on the table. I DO realize this is a bar, so I'm kind of ok with that. They have two steaks and prime rib on the menu. the steaks are $19 and the prime rib is $21. I asked if the prime rib was good and the waitress said it was DELICIOUS! I ordered the prime rib with potato and salad. Our salads were nicely fresh with mixed greens. The prime rib was the worst i have had. It was tough with absolutely NO flavor. the aus jour looked like it was just beef boullioun. the butter for the potato (which was lukewarm) was served in little plastic packs that i individually had to open and scrape out. We had to ask for salt and pepper shakers. the silverware was a fork and knive which the waitress took off our salad plates and laid on the table when she took the salad plates. i was never offered horseradish for my prime rib but my waitress was wrapped up in texting in the corner by the cash register. when i did get horseradish it was old and tasted like vinegar. it wasnt hot at all. guess we should have taken a cue from the empty parking lot. we were there on a saturday at 530pm. owner would make out better by turning on the TVs and serving booze in the back and getting out of the food business. oh and the radio was loud and playing songs the wait staff were singing along to. nothing the dining room crowd wanted to hear.

I went there with my aunt for lunch one day about a year ago because we had coupons for a free lunch. I also took my almost 2 year old at the time. First of all, when the nongreeting hostess/waitress sat us she never asked if I needed a high chair for my daughter which kind of took me off guard, because it had never happened to me before (hostesses at all the places I've ever ate had the level of courtesy to ask if I needed a booster seat or high chair). I wasn't going to knit pick about that one occurence, but the rest of the experience there had me really upset. So anyway, I went searching for one myself since the waitress disappeared so quickly (very small shack) and took care of the issue. I ordered a chicken salad sandwich that was served with chips. There was no specifications on the menu what was in the chicken salad so I assumed it was the standard ingredients; chicken, mayo, maybe some celery, onions, salt and pepper. Well, there was also cranberries and walnuts in it which are two things I can't stand in chicken salad and I know places like Bob Evans list what they put in their chicken salad like grapes (since it's out of the norm) so that if the customer doesn't like that in their chicken salad they can ask for it to be made without them. I decided to take a bite just to see if maybe I could tolerate it, but I found it disgusting so I asked the waitress if I could get something else in replace of the sandwich since it had things in it that I didn't like and I wasn't aware of that fact until I received my order. She said I would have to pay for whatever else I got (in a rude tone) and I just said forget it. She hadn't been very nice the whole time and I was just ready to get out of that dark, dingy place. I did fill out a review card and advised that they put on their menu the ingredients of their food especially when they go outside the norm. I wonder if they would have reacted the same way if I had had a nut allergy! Would they have still acted as if it was my fault I couldn't eat the food, because somehow I should've telepathically known what was in it! Needless to say that was my first and last visit.

I visited this restaurant last night 8/4/07, went into the wrong entrance, the bar, the staff was friendly and took us around the bar to the dining area, we passed thru this little hallway which smelled like rotten beer and vomit into the dining area, it was fairly clean, ill say that. I had the cajun chicken pasta, tasted as if the pasta was left just sitting to cook all day, night and the next day. my dish tasted like water...i ordered my 2 yr old the pasta, it was stuck together and dry and beginning to harden and was served on a old beat/faded frisbee...just dont a stellar place to eat, also the hostess sat at the table next to us the entire time just watching..kinda wierd..
