.

So, I drove down the street and saw a for sale sign being represented by this company and called. I had been searching for a house for some time and I liked this particular block. When I called and spoke to Mr. Owens he seemed very pleasant so I made an appointment. He didn't ask me any questions that listing agents usually ask like "Are you working with someone else?" or " How much are you approved for?" he seemed anxious to show the property. The day of the appointment came and at 8:30am he called to confirm the appointment. At 4:30 I got off work and took the trolley to the property. Two stops and twenty minutes away he called, the key had been signed out and kept by another agent. Our appointment was at 5:30 and he was just telling me this! The coincidence that my agent had called to confirm the appointment earlier that day was too much.
The icing on the cake was the next day. Mr. Ownes called me to cuss me out for having an agent and not telling him! He told me I had no right to drag him to the house when my agent could have picked up the key and that he was "miffed" by my actions and that he rearranged his schedule to show me this house. I told him that it didn't matter because either way the key was gone when we needed it. That's when he says "well you don't know that".
Folks, it's a common practice that realtors withhold the keys for prospective clients so that they get first dibs; however, in this case the key was held for spite. Mr. Ownes won't be getting a double commission from listing and selling the same house and he decided to take out his frustration on me just because I was on the outside (literally) wanting in. I was both discusted and upset over the ordeal and now I'm on to the next property. He now wants to leave the key for my realtor and states that an offer is on the table but he'll entertain mine. He didn't ask if I was qualified and agents usually want to know the first before they show one house. He just didn't care.
