I love a nice fresh loaf of bread so when I get mine I go to L Sarcone and Son. I have never had a bad experience here.

The prices have gone up while the quality of the bread has declined dramatically because Sarcone's is cutting corners. This has resulted in a noticable decline in their business; they used to have lines out the door, but not anymore.

A new generation of people are smart enough to know that you can get better quality bread elsewhere. This place has definately jumped the shark.

I drive 30 minutes every 2 weeks to go here for the bread. It is the best tasting bread anywhere. It is the right consistency inside and outside. staff is helpful and you can call in an order and they will have it ready for you. Sesame loaf bread is to die for. I eat in while I driving home rom there...lol

In a city of fantastic Italian bakeries, Sarcone's stands out, arguably the best. The lines outside the door prior to the end of baking time attest to their legions of fans. My acid test revolves around the crust as I prefer that to the inside of any bread. Sarcone's passes the test with flying colors.

I discovered this little bakery in the Bella Vista/Italian Market district of South Philadelphia today, and let me tell you, it is very nice! It's tucked in off a small street, bu the flow of customers never ends. The sign off the street says "Sarcone's Bakery." It's next to Ralph's Italian Restaurant.
Even on weekdays, you can find parking. Being that this is Philly, that is a major plus. Secondly, the breads are very fresh and tasty here. Their pizzas also look very tantalizing; they're square shaped and not as greasy as chain pizzas nor are they so cheesy.
The only things I don't like about this bakery are how their clerks do not wear gloves, using their bare hands to serve you and how some of the breadsticks I bought were stale while others were exceptionally fresh. (Oh and did I forget? The prices are very reasonable. Rolls are only $3 for a dozen- same price as my local SuperFresh! And, the sesame breadsticks I love cost only $4 for one pound.)
This is an old fashioned bakery, with a homey decor (like the counter) and an old balance scale. The scent of fresh bread will overwhelm you. This is truly worth visiting while you are in the area.
