Don't waste your time. I ordered their biggest boat two weeks in advance and called to confirm twice. They shorted the order and delivered it almost an hour and a half late! My guests had already left. Calling the manager was useless.

I usually go here when i'm on my lunch break at school and i love going here. Sushi is great but a bit pricey, but everything else is evenly priced. They have great service for a small cozy place. It's good to go to for lunch

i've went there a couple of times before to eat in and the experience was good, that last waitress i had was pretty nice. however if you go to take out, be prepared to wait for a long time. i went in at 7:30 to place my order and the waitress that took my order said "wait about 20 minutes" so i go out in the car to wait and about 15 mins past i went back inside to wait. i waited and waited and got bored so i asked the customer waiting next to me how long she has waited cause she was already inside before i went in and she said about 25 mins. i finally get my order, and left the place at 8:10. that means i waited for 40 mins and to me, 40 mins and 20 mins are far apart. if they are going to tell me to wait and they know they are busy, at least tell me to wait longer so i would have the expectation to wait longer. they should say to wait longer then so i would be prepared and not waste my time sitting there.
in all, for takeout, be prepared to wait a long time or just eat in if you have the extra time. other then that...that food is pretty good and reasonably priced

My boyfriend and I have been customers of makiman for over 2 years. The food and service are always consistently fantastic. The owners Kim and Peter are always friendly and attentive to the customers. We will keep coming back for a long time to come!

Really fanatstic sushi although it is rather expensive. Great for lunch and dinner and now they deliver. I also get takeout a lot, but it's still nice to have a sit down meal. Note: usually cold inside, so bring a sweater!

I've been to many sushi restaurants(at least twice a month) for years in Philly, DC, New York and LA. Makiman still stays on the top of my list. The sushi/sashimi is always fresh here and in addition to the standard items you can find in most of the Japanese restaurants, they offer many creative makis that are beautifully presented and unique. For those of you who still shy away from raw fish, there are many excellent cooked dishes to choose from as well. The appetizers are equally impressive with my favorite being the spicy tuna tartare and almond chicken. The staff here is friendly and the atmosphere is cozy and casual. It consistently provides a all-around pleasant dining experience. I will definitely go back for more.

First and foremost, I am a californian, who has tried some of the best sushi not only in LA but in San Fran too. West coast seafood can really compare, especially west coast sushi, to the east coast. The east doesn't have many unique items, but i was very impressed with Makiman. As soon as you enter, you are impressed by the decor. Very subtle, and very classy. The menu was very large, and most importantly had a full menu of specialized rolls from the NE Viking, to the McNabb(eagles quarterback....suprised theres no garcia roll!)...
Anyway, great ambience, great menu, and most importantly great quality of fish for the sushi. Very impressive. I"ll definitely go back....and its surprising that such a cool place is located in Lawncrest!

We have moved away from the area but we still drive about an hour each way just to dine at the GEM of Northeast Philly.... We love all kinds of Japanese cuisine - sushi, sashimi, soups, teriyakis, tempuras - and have tried numerous Japanese restaurants around us (Mainline area) and downtown. Sadly though for us, none compare to Makiman. Makiman is just soooo good and is so innovative - for example it has very interesting maki (rolls) and appetizers, the food is always fresh and delicious,it is very reasonably priced, and it has great ambiance (it's really a very romantic little place). AND the place is a BYOB.... what more could one want?!

This place is awesome. Driving by you wouldn't think anything of it but once you are inside, you feel as though you are in one of the "trendy" restaurants in Olde City. The only difference is, you still have some money in your pocket after dinner is done to enjoy the rest of your night!
A great date spot. My fiance and I go here at least once a month and we love trying the Maki-Fusion menu. A personal favorite of ours is the Capt N Cruch and the T.O (no mo). SOOO Good!
If you like sushi, or if you just want to try it out, you should definitely try this spot first.

My husband and I travel often to Philadelphia. I am not exagerating when I say that Makiman has the best sushi either of us have ever tasted. The food is always fresh and the menu is exciting and dynamic. The diningroom is cozy and perhaps most importantly the kitchen is clean. DonSmith11 obviously has a disturbingly blunt ax to grind here. The allegations contained in his review are unquestionably false - and tend terribly close to libelous. Trust me you will not regret a visit to this establishment.

This place has the best sushi in Philly. I love the almond chicken, avacado salad, shumai, and the cap n crunch rolls. Those rolls are the best. Shrimp tempura is great too. The prices are reasonable and the quality is excellent. I highly recommend this joint.

This is the BEST place to eat sushi in PHILADELPHIA. There is no reason to go to all the other high priced center city restaurants (pod, morimoto) when you can get the same, if not better quality food here for a fraction of the cost at other places.
The fish is ALWAYS fresh at maki man - they even smoke their own salmon!! The menu has many choices so even if one is not a sushi lover there would be plenty for you to eat. Their cap n' crunch roll is absoulutely fabulous as are many of their specialty rolls.
The staff is pleasant and friendly, service is always good. We love that it it BYOB too.
It is a GREAT place to go with a group of friends, you can try a bunch of foods & it is reasonably priced too.

I absolutely adore this restaurant. The sushi is always fresh and the service is fabulous. I've been with several friends and they always enjoy their entrees (I'm HOOKED on their delicious maki). I would recommend this place again and again.

This is a good place to go if you are looking for great sushi and an intimate atmosphere. The staff is very polite and friendly and the food is amazing! The fish is always fresh. I highly recommend the tuna roll. Also, you probably want to make reservations on the weekend nights as it can get pretty crowded. Don't forget that it's BYOB and for the non-sushi eaters their teriyaki dishes and tempuras are also delicious!

With the amazing dining rennaisance occuring downtown, it's good to see a little of it has branched out to the Northeast. Makiman is elegant and cozy with a very friendly staff. If you have a small party, be sure to sit at the bar. It's only about 6 seats, and the chef, a form sushi roller from the great "Morimoto" on Chestnut will answer all questions and loves to accomodate the, "Just surprise me." order. The rolls are fun and creative. Bring good friends, good wine and get at least two T.O. Rolls.

What a wonderful find. Although I haved lived around the corner for just about a year, I recently discovered this Sushi bar. This is authenic sushi, which is such a nice treat. They are now serving a Sushi Happy Hour with $1.00 sushi. A really nice intimate atmosphere. Although the location is near main streets, it is located at a busy intersection and can be a bit hard to miss.

PROS: Great Authentic Sushi, Nice Atmosphere

Nestled in an unlikely place (behind a Dunkin Donuts at the Five Points Intersection in Burholme). Makiman Sushi is one of the best sushi bars I've found in our city. Being an advid raw fish consumer myself. The small intiment establishment offers delicious Japanese food in a quaint and friendly environment. The staff is friendly and charming. They offer many lunch specials and the fish is fresh and well prepared. If you're not a fan of sushi they also offer many cooked dishes as well. A typical dinner bill for two depends on what you order but usually ranges from $30 to $60 and the restaurant is a B.Y.O.B. so plan accordingly.

PROS: Delicious food and friendly staff.
CONS: Small dining room. Weekend nights might be a problem without reservations

Tucked away in Fox Chase this restaurant is a real gem. I was hesitant to try it because of the idea of sushi but my husband talked me into it and I love it! They also offer a great selection of cooked food. The food is always fresh and most nights you can actually meet the owner who is a sushi chef himself!

The menu features house special rolls (a list of about 30), a full range of appetizers (I recommend almond chicken, shrimp tempura or makiman's pancake), full dinner entrees (I recommend sushi dinner combination /sashimi deluxe/salmon teriyaki) come with soup, salad and rice, and to top it off they have ice cream tempura (fried ice cream with strawberry and chocolate sauce which is just heavenly!!)

Try it, You will be pleasantly surprised!

Best Sushi restaurant in the northeast. I could have saved alot of money on gas and parking, why go to center city. Very different types of makis that I have never seen any where. Great staff, it's alway been fresh, now they have "$1 Sushi happy hours" How are they doing this with such high quality fresh ingredients? Highly, highly, recomended
