I truly love this store. When you walk in the employees and owner make you feel like family! Yes, maybe you don't always find what you want but you should know that going into any consignment shop. The greatest part is that clothes are constantly coming in everyday, so if you don't find something one day you will find it another day.

I have been going to Sophisticated Seconds for 5 years. I like the store a lot. All of the staff people are very, very nice. I have had only incident with a staff member that did not fit the category of very, very pleasant. And her attitude was not outrageous, only slightly impugning that I was trying to get too much of a bargain during their bag sale. Honestly, I go mainly during their sales. When I first took advantage of their bag sale 4-5 years ago, It was fantastic. Only for a dollar or a little more, I got 10 or so gowns and beautiful suits all stuffed in a bag. A few years later, they began to turn a jaundiced eye to my bag stuffing. Whereas years previously, they were very happy for me to by bag after bag of clothes, since they were confident that I was just a consumer and not a competitor. Now, probably due to the recession and the inflated downtown Philadelphia tax base, they make unhappy faces as you try to stuff clothes in during the "all you can fit"" bag sale. I have got many bargains there, but the prices are high, unless you go during their seasonal sales. I can't agree with the the other reviewers that the owner is distasteful, but my only conversation with her is "Can I use your bathroom?" And she is always says yes, so I have never felt used, abused or taken advantaged by her. I hope people will continue to shop there, since I am not a buffulo gap person. Never was, as a young person or as a beautiful middle aged person of 49. Take care, Gals!

p.s. Also they reduced the size of their bags, which I was unhappy about, but if you look at the number of consignment shops now compared to 30 years ago, it is now quite pitiful. We must support this shop, since if we don't we will walk from the 30th street bridge to the Delaware river and be left with nothing for the discerning customer, who doesn't want to pay 25.00 dollars for a dress made at Ross, the gap or buffullo gap that will fall apart or look shabby in 25 months. Whereas, Sophisticated Seconds clothes were built to last and unbelievably come with linings, which used to be the norm for well-dressed woman. Thanks!

Oh my God, last night, I stopped in Green Street Consignment shop and it was a horrible experience. I went in to buy a dress and looked at half the rack and every single dress was 50 dollars to 162 dollars. Who ever head of paying 50 or 162.00 dollars for a dress someone wore already. I would rather walk around naked, than pay those kind of outrageous prices for thrift store clothing, no matter what condition they are in. In comparison to Sophisticated Seconds, Green Street is a RIP-OFF and they will never see my business again. They must be drinking that juju juice again, since 3 to 4 years ago, their prices were not imbecilic as they are now. I now, must give sophisticated seconds 5 stars, instead of 4 stars, as I originally intended. No wonder, people are buying their clothes on ebay. If Green Street is the new trend, I will buy all of my clothes on ebay! Again, thank you Sophisticated Seconds for still having what I thought were high prices, but now I see are reasonable.

Since it was obviously the store owner or an employee who wrote it!

The merchandise is OK but overpriced-- lots of stuff is dated or has condition problems, anything designer is $110 and the racks are PACKED. I get frustrated trying to see stuff and often find myself not bothering and looking at jewelry or belts instead.

As for the help, one woman there is very friendly, but the owner and the lady doing receiving definitely aren't. Doesn't stop me from going in, but as I find better places in Philly I visit less and less.

Nice new shop on Sansom Street. Shop before your movie at the Roxy. Rather ordinary items, but neat and tidy. Shop clerk pleasant and helpful.

Pros: tidy, prices, clean

Cons: ordinary stock

I visited this store on Sansom Street near 20th Street (not sure if it's a new branch or they've moved) and found the layout very pleasant. Personally, the style was geared to a slightly older person than I am, but I can imagine stopping here if I need some work clothes. Prices seemed decent for a vintage clothing store, more like a consignment store rather than a thrift (e.g. goodwill, salvation army) store. For trendier clothes, you may want to try Green Street or Buffalo Exchange or Retrospect, but for more classy clothes, it's worth a browse. The salesperson was very friendly also.

This amazing store on Sansom Street has great items. The small space means you need to stop in frequently to find the best buys, but closes are current, stylish and in season. Prices for top name designer pieces are bargains! Jewelry and accessories are great. I get more compliments on items I buy here than anywhere else new or used! Mostly women?s closes, including formal wear, and a limited but top notch men?s area.

The sales help is knowledgeable and will help you find new items and select clothes that that are good for you. The owner, Joann will know you after 1 visit and is more than helpful in selections, accessories? etc.

A don't miss!

(PS I can't believe the other reviewer was in this store!)

PROS: personal service, good quality, excellent value
CONS:

Hopefully today the woman working there was just having a bad day because she was very rude! The clothes are way over priced and they are still second hand. They are charging for the brand name i would assume. The atmosphere is very uncomfortable. I would not recommend this place to anyone else!
