I had the great misfortune of being hospitalized here twice. The ER was filthy. I was seen by a medical student, not a physician. Just before I was admitted to the Psych Ward, two other med students breezed through the ER & I overheard one say "This place gets so many freakin' psychos!"
The psych ward at Millcreek Community Hospital is a dirty, dingy place, rife with harried overworked staff. I and other patients were treated as less than human by a staff of people lacking in compasssion. The only purpose this behavioral health unit has is to dispense medication. A few kind staff members stood out. The rest acted as though they did not even want to be there dealing with us "freakin' psychos". An orderly named Ed angrily got in my face late one night, mistakenly believing I had stolen another patient's bed. I went to the nurse. Ed never apologized and the nurse never reprimanded him. Ed later felt the need to restrain me and lock me into a solitary swing area. He angrily insulted me as he did this as well. It's a shame they let a bully like him work among the mentally ill.
In addition, the children's mental health ward was directly across from the adults and I witnessed young children being treated in the same appallingly brutal, uncaring manner. One 9 year old girl was sobbing and terrified only to be yelled at and reprimanded by the nurses at the front desk! It was heartbreaking to watch this frightened child being treated like that. The nurses were obviously overworked and tired. One burst into tears as she handed me my medication. Some of the nurses tried to be kind but most of them on this floor were unfriendly and cold.
A few caring staff members try their best but are unfortunately outnumbered by angry malcontents.

I have never been to Millcreek for anything but to give birth and my experience was just A++! I loved the fact that I had never had to switch to any rooms. I labored, birthed and recovered all in the same room. The nurses were just A++! The day I had my son there were so many people giving birth they ran out of rooms so you know it was a stressful day but they all had on smiling faces and encouraged me every step of the way. After my son was born the nurses were just as wonderful and I love how their visiting hours were the whole day. This allowed my husband to return to work and take time off after I left to hospital and it allowed our friends to take shifts so I was never alone. It was the most wonderful experience and I would recommend anyone to check out this hospital when planning their birth!

I think this is the fastest ER in ERIE however the waiting room lacks a lot compared to Hamot or St Vincent. It's a lot smaller. One benefit is the parking is free.
