Please, this overrated schlock does not compare to Philly's best. This gristle-laden mess tastes more like rancid liver than real steak. Steve's nasty employees, extremely high prices, and disgustingly filthy store do not help matters. I prefer, Chink's, Tony Luke's, and Rick's.

steak with runny American cheese and cheap onions on a decent roll and a diet soda.\r

I honestly don't understand what the Gino's and Pat's people are thinking! No other cheesesteak is quite like
Steve's. I've been eating here ever since my mother was pregnant with me 21 years ago, it's all she would eat, and I have never had a bad cheesesteak from here, ever! The best cheesesteak from any other pizza place in philly i had wasn't even half as good as the worst Steve's sandwich I have ever had. It is THAT good! The cheesewhiz is amazing! The steak isn't diced but sliced and has a flavor and texture like no other cheesesteak. And the fries... Mmmm!!! I ate their hot dogs as a child and I still remember the destinctive taste today, very good! Although, the portions got a little smaller over the years but the taste has never changed. The atmosphere isn't great either but it's a take out joint. Deffinetly worth it. Never really longer then a 10-15 minute wait, it would be worth it anyway.

Pros: no need to say more!

Cons: atmosphere, capacity, price

Pros: there are none

Cons: soggy rolls, tough steak, just plain bad

All I have to say is 'liquid American cheese'! by far the best cheesesteaks in philly. the rolls are fresh, the mean isn't chopped, and the cheese is to die for!

Anyone who has the slightest idea about what a cheesesteak should be, thinks Steve's is the best.

Hands down.... The best in town. And that is saying a lot.

Pros: Best cheesesteak in Philly

Cons: lack of seating

I've tried every cheesesteak you could imagine in Philadelphia and Steeves is the best by far. Its a long, thin, crispy roll, perfectly trimmed rib-eye steak that never has any fat or gristle, and the best cheese (wiz or melted american) I've ever had. The sandwhich is simply incredible, anyone who says otherwise on this site just does not know a Philly cheese steak. Most everyone I know agrees. It's so consistently amazing also I have never gotten a bad steak there. A must visit for anyone in Philly.

Cons: Limited Seating

This is my favorite cheesesteak shop in philadelphia. Forget Pats or Genos. This place is much higher quality. They use good quality steak. They don't chop up their steak like other places - they give you quality trimmed steak.

With Steve's located in the Northeast, I don't have to travel too far from the burbs to get a cheesesteak! They've always been quick with service. It's a small place great for takeout.

A pretty good steak. The meat isn't chopped, but I have grown to like the style. Definitely one of your only choices for a good steak in the Northeast, and it's also one of the only places open after 10pm.

The problem is the rude service. They also have a rule about "no provolone after 11pm". I've been a few times and the guy won't explain why you can't get provolone, he just says "American or Whiz" over and over. It took me a few times visiting to find out about the strange "no provolone after 11pm" rule, which is downright silly. If there were a place with better service around, I'd go there.

When coming thur town we like to stop here. We live in the south but grew up in philly. We miss the taste of cheese steaks that are authentic. We love the service and the other choices on the great menu.

Steves may not have the fame of Pat's, but their stakes are tastey none-the less, and with a much more friendly atmosphere! I can go for a fantastic Steve's Steak anytime!

A really good sandwich!! The only problem is that the meat is scarce. This joint has built it's reputation deservedly so. I am sure that by now Steve has secured the future of his family for generations to come. It would be very nice for him to show his appreciation to the consumers that helped put him there with a "perfect" steak, add enough meat so the roll is not the featured taste.

Over the years The Prince not only put out the best steak i have ever had, but he also trains his employees to rise to the top as professionals. I have eaten in all three locations and have always recieved the same fast and friendly service. I think the longest I ever waited for my Steak was about 3 minutes and they were crowded. Rolls always fresh meat always tender and they always cut my girlfrieds sandwich in half without me requesting it. How is that for a personal touch. Hey Steve thanks for being consistant.
WE have never been disappointed. And I have been eating your Steaks for about 7 years.

My favorite steak sandwich shop closed due to family matters, so I had to search for another.
Steve's was it! In fact, it looked just like Mamalu's (my previous favorite) inside.
But never the less, I like a steak sandwich in which the steak isn't chopped into oblivion.
This was it. The rolls are also great. Much better than that 'that brand' that everyone else uses.

I read an opinion somewhere, where they put on to much mayonnaise and catsup. Huh???
Au contraire, You choose the toppings.

I'll be back!

I've lived in the NYC metro area for 20 years and have never tried a real cheesesteak from Philly. I've had plenty of so-called Philly Cheesesteaks in NY but they were always incredibly greasy or the beef was very rubbery in texture. So when my wife and I decided to take a day trip down to Philly, how could we possible pass on the opportunity to try the real deal. We chose Steve's solely based on the recommendations from Citysearch.
We were not disappointed. The beef was tender, the bread soft, and the cheese was delicious. I only wished there was more beef. I ate the entire thing and didn't feel full but it's still the best cheesesteak I've ever had. I'm not a local but I know good beef when I taste it!

I'll make it simple. Best rolls, best steak and best cheese, DEFINETLY the best cheese. That makes the best steak. Simple.

And a work about Pat's and Geno's. Everyone knows they are not anywhere near the best. Those are tourist traps. How can Pat's be a classic when it tastes totally different every 3 years because they cut costs on materials???

Pros: Best American wit' ever

Cons: they have their share of "off" days where the steak is bland (watery cheese?)

.

Light roll with a crispy exterior, tender, greaseless medallions of beef, creamy American cheese and the fried onions are always 'just right". The perfect cheesesteak! If this joint were in South Philly, it would trump both Geno's and Pat's. That's right, I said it! You gotta try the cheese fries with wiz, well done. They're the best in the city! ( Ever since Ishkabibble's got new owners, anyway). Enjoy it all with a large cherry soda. The chocolate soda isn't too shabby either. Bridesburg Kevin

As someone else said, "this is simply the best cheesesteak in Philadelphia (and thus, by association, the world), hands down."
The meat is completely fatless and of excellent quality, easily the best quality I've had on any cheesesteak. The roll is the perfect Philly roll, a little firm with good taste; and the cheeses (both the American and the whiz) are also of exceptional quality. Its perfect. Don't forget to get the cheese fries for even more of that great cheese...
AND you can order "double meat, double cheese" which I highly recommend for even more of a good, good thing. To top it all off, the people who work there are easy to communicate with and actually friendly. Compare that to any other 'Best of Philly' cheesesteak place. It puts Pat's and Geno's to shame. Frankly, when I'm in the mood for a cheesesteak, I find it very difficult to settle for anything but Steve's because its just nowhere near the quality anywhere else I've been.

For at least 10 years Steve's has been serving the best cheesesteaks in the land. A few comments on previous posts: 1. you put the ketchup on so don't worry about having to 'tell' them anything. 2. Mayo? c'mon. 3. Everyone knows you ask for the Whiz on cheesefries not american. 4. Messy? duh, it's a cheesesteak. 5. Fries wrapped in paper? Wow, the horror of it all, it must've been traumatic!!

Wow, I can't believe I actually drove all the way to North Philly for that place after the good reviews it got. I know a good cheesesteak when I taste it, and that was not it. The meat was a good quality, I'll give them that. However everything was very bland. They put way too much mayo on mine, and almost no american cheese. It was the messiest cheesesteak I've had, and one of the least tasty ones as well. And their 'wonderful cheese fries' were far from it. They come in a paper wrapper, are messy as well, and they water down their american cheese they put on them (which greatly diminishes the taste). All in all, I would recommend against going there. If you DO have to go there for some reason however, get extra cheese. And make sure you tell them to go light on the mayo/ketchup.

This is simply the best cheesesteak in Philadelphia (and thus, by association, the world), hands down. It's just like Pat's of Geno's or Jim's or any other place except for the superior meat, cheese, roll, and onions. Steve's serves what can only be described as perfection on a beautifully fresh and slightly crispy roll. Add in the attitude-free service, clean dining area, and TOTAL lack of any pretense, and you have the only cheesesteak worth the artery-clogging effects. Oh, and don't forget to try the spicy whiz fries- they may just change your life.

Steve's really does make one of the best cheesesteaks in Philly. They don't chop the meat (which they do elsewhere because it's cheap and they NEED to chop it) They have hot melted American (you can get wiz or provalone too). The use the same melted on the fries which you can get "spicy" and they also have Cherry soda ...mmm Cherry Soda...

I just don't understand why someone from Maryland would bash something that is actually is what it should be. They are supposed to be around a 1/4 of meat on a roll. It's supposed to be somewhat "fat-less" and good meat costs money..(I don't eat discount steak..do you?) steak-um's trying to be a Steve's steak...not the other way around.

Must be good with only one bad review from someone who thinks Hot Pockets are Cheesesteaks.

Good Luck Steve's, your Steaks have ended many, many good nights...

On my way home from N.Y.C to Maryland, I went way out of my way to come here and try this allegedly "#1 cheesesteak" after reading the reviews about this place.

Let me tell you, this was the WORST CHEESESTEAK I've EVER HAD!!!!!!!! Meat is like sliced fat-less beef w/ no flavor and cooked till dry. The meat was barely a 1/4 inch high of a pile. It was a glorified Steak-Um's sandwich. Big dissapointment to myself, wife and her parents, all there to experience what EVERYONE HERE has been saying was the best!. It was the worst, by far, and extremely OVERPRICED.

STAY FAR AWAY folks, this place is a horrible dissapointment!!! BOO ON YOU STEVE!!!

p.s. I even brought my vid camera and stopped rolling film after my first bite. Waste of tape.

An excellent choice for cheese steak!! After I managed to find the place (which is quite small) I ordered up the classic cheese steak and was rather good. The meat in the cheese steak was real beef (not formed and pressed patties like other places) and the sandwich was by no means greasy or fattywhich some are. I highly recommend this place!!

The Cheesesteaks at Steve's Prince of Steaks are the best. The service is friendly and quick. You have to try the cheese fries and don't forget the peppers! Delicious!!!

Pros: fast service, great food, inexpensive

Cons: none, none, none

STEVE SHOULD BE #1, BY FAR A BETTER TASTING SANDWICH THAN PAT'S, WITH MORE MEAT TOO. THERE'S A NEW KNG IN TOWN.

that Steve is on the other side of the city. I feel that Steve's is a step above most of the South Philly steak stands. A lack of grease is the difference.

Steve's is the best cheesesteak in the city, without a doubt. It's all about the slabs of meat and the already melted american cheese. I recommend it to anyone who has gotten bored with the same old cheesesteak.

Easily the best cheesesteaks in Philadelphia. I've lived here my whole life and eaten them all. If it were not located in Northeast Philly everyone would have eaten there by now. The steaks cook quickly and the meat is very lean and delicous.

Forget what the tour guides tell. Though it is out of the way for some. Steve's is absolutely best cheesesteak in Philly. Get the cheesesteak whiz/with, and an order of fries. Put a touch of hot sauce on it and yuou'll be in heaven.

Consistent is the best way to describe this little joint. They have excellent steaks and the best spicy fries. The rolls are always fresh, the steaks are always delicious and the place is always packed. It's really the best steak I have had since I moved to Philadelphia. I suggest a steak with american cheese, pepperoni and fried onions, cherry soda and spicy fries.

As a lifelong Philly resident, I've had my share of cheesesteaks from 33rd and the Ridge ( The real original Pat's ) to the old chessesteak row ( Oregon Ave Broad to 10th ) and of course the media hyped Passyunk avenue genre and without a doubt Steve's on Comly at the Boulevard ( across from Nabisco ) is thee BEST !!! ( They are responsible for at least 30lbs of my 265lbs ! ) I recommend it to all my out of town lients and every one has reported satisfaction. Conrad, AAA Rated Limousine

Oh my god.....I used to like Pat's until I tried Geno's and Geno's was King in my heart until I tried Steve's.....they are delicious. Tender steak, not too fatty with just the right amount of cheese (I like a lot of cheese)...they are to die for. I pick Steve's every time!!

I have tried every steakshop that everyone says "is the best in their area", or is "the best they every tried", and I was never convinced that...Pat's, Jim's, or even Geno's was the best. But I tried Steve's Prince of Steaks on both Bustleton and on the Blvd...and they are the BEST!

The absolute best steak sandwiches in Philly! I don't even eat red meat and I make an exception for Steve's Prince of Steaks. The ambiance is nil, there is just a counter along one wall to sit. It's really just an extension of a row house

I am really not a big fan of Steve's Prince of Steaks near Roosevelt Mall. I mean their cheesesteaks are ok, but there are a lot of other places in the area that are a great deal better. I've found that the steaks are usually greasy, not

Not my favorate place for a steak sandwich. I find them to be too greasy and too much roll, to litte meat. There are better places in the area, but good place to go when everything else is closed. The service is very fast and the steaks
