Ah, Joe! What a great haircut you give me each time I visit.
Joe was able to cut my very thick and wavy hair into a cute pixie cut. Usually I've found that I need to be very specific about what I would like. With Joe, I'm comfortable letting him do what he feels would be best for my hair. He's a funny guy, too, and always makes me laugh.
The salon itself is so hip it almost hurts, but the people inside are kind and have always made this suburban mom feel very welcome and not at all out of place. The haircut is $50 and well worth it.
After 30+ years of terrible haircuts from small-chain cutteries interspersed with late-night DIY haircuts, I happened upon American Mortals. I went to them the morning of my wedding and got my hair cut and loved it. I forgot about them until last year, when I got fed up with all the soccer mom cuts I was getting on South Street of all places - and I fell into Becky. I find that she listens and is able to take my poor descriptions and translate them into a fabulous haircut. It's pricey - after years of $13 cuts, I feel like I have to save up for a $50-do, but I will happily stick with her for years to come simply because she understands that just because I'm an over-30 mom of four kids, I don't have to look like one.
Don't go to Becky! Becky, PUT DOWN THE SCISSORS AND BOTTLE OF DYE, before someone else gets hurt. I get angry every time I look in the mirror. My highlights are embarrasing. I have light brown hair, and there is a 1.5 inch thick bleach blonde streak near each of my ears. No other highlights showed up, just these skunk stripes on the sides of my head. I can't wear my hair back or in a headband until a PROFESSIONAL fixes it. My haircut isn't much better. I asked for a trim, and with inches of my hair on the floor later, my hair is DRAMATICALLY shorter. The length to my hair will grow back, but the corrective color I need is going to cost a couple hundred $. I've been a loyal client to Becky for a couple years, and her level of client service has gotten progressively worse leading up to this incident. She doen't ask how you want your hair , and if you tell her, she simply ignores you and does what she wants, saying she'll do what you asked next visit. She's so self centered, she doesn't have the CAPACITY to listen. When she talks to you, she consistently makes eye contact with HERSELF in the mirror. CREEPY. Hope the band works out Becky, cause you need a new day job.
This is a great salon! My girlfriend enjoys going here a lot. It is not overpriced and the people that work there are relaxed, fun and, most importantly when dealing with hair, they know style! my girlfriend can heartily recommend Joe, but the other people that work there seem to do a good job as well. The only problem is getting an appointment during the weekends - call in advance to avoid disappointments!
If you try to walk in, good luck
It is great to have a hair place you are perfectly happy with (one worry less) . Once I persuaded my family to try Mortals, just one visit was enough to get them there on a regular basis (including a teenager who was a nightmare when it gets to haircut). Now one mention about going there, they are ready! :)
People are cool, friendly and professional! They are excellent about following your wishes. Haircuts are awsome and suitable to age, I love the coloring as well. Usually we go to Heidi or Anthony, but others are fine as well!
I see a lot of people have gotten their hair cut by Sandi. Well, I don't know her. But I do know Heidi. Heidi is a gifted cutter and I have never once felt that she was talking down to me/belittling me/forcing me to buy product. She actually trained with Nick Arrojo in NY and it shows. For those of you who watch TLC's WHAT NOT TO WEAR you know who Nick Arrojo is! And yes, Heidi is that good!
Yes, the place tries to be a little too hip for it's own good. So? If it bothers you don't decorate your home like that.
I stopped going there becuase I couldn't afford 70 per haircut. I really wish I could because I would be back in Heidi's chair in a second!
Pros: Heidi is a gifted stylist
Cons: I stopped going because cuts went from 60 to 70. A bit high
I love this place! I've been twice - once for a cut and most recently for a color, and both with Brooke. I have absolutely adored the changes to my hair both times! It's really amazing what a nice hair-do can do for your esteem. I usually leave in the best mood. Relaxed atmosphere with good music and lots of things to look at, really nice front desk people who greet me when I come in, Bumble and Bumble hair products that smell lovely, and a stylist who listens to what I want and works with me every step of the way! I'll definitely be going back a third time.
Pros: Atmosphere, color, cut, price
Reader beware- the AM review titled "My Hair Founds Its Soulmate" (posted on 7/30/08) is almost IDENTICAL to a review posted for Salon Ricochet on 8/21/06 (including the grammar error). Hmmm... Sounds more like a "review" posted by a disgruntled ex-emplyee rather than an actual customer.
A friend recommended Sandi at American Mortals after a BAD hair mishap at another salon [hint: SR]. I couldnt have found a better hair savior. Not only did she fix my hair, she gave me an amazing cut. I have gotten more compliments on this haircut than any other. Plus, like someone below said, it grows out SO well. As long as Im in Philly, Sandi is my hair soul mate! The entire staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The salon is super cute and in a really accessible location. There are always lots of rad magazines and treats.
Pros: Amazing Cuts, Great Prices, Unpretentious Environment
Cons: El Fuego is down the street!
I have been to American Mortals a few times over the years, and overall had decent experiences, but I think I've finally found a stylist I want to come back to. I had Sandi, and while she can definitely be a bit brusque at times, she understood what I wanted and gave me just that! And, while advising me that I wanted something pretty difficult to keep up, was also sympathetic. Also, the small talk was the least awkward of all my hair experiences (and I am really bad at small talk.) I will definitely be going back - Unfortunately I am moving out of state soon, but I don't think it'll stop me!
I went to this place based on recommendations from friends and reviews online. Sandi cut my hair and overall she did a nice job on what I admit was a pretty disastrous hair situation, from the dried out texture to the numerous hack-jobs I'd done on myself over the years. She evened out all my self-styled "layers" and fixed my bangs up reasonably well. I also really like Bumble&Bumble products so I was happy that they used those and the texture of my hair has greatly improved based on the product recommendations I was given. However, I hesitate to go back again and definitely not to Sandi. She talked down to me, made rude comments about the state of my hair, and argued with every styling preference I mentioned. Even though what I ended up with was nice, I really didn't feel good about the whole process. I have had 2 experiences w/ this salon since, once to rebuy my conditioner and once to try and make another appointment. The people at the front desk were very rude to me each time, the last time the owner basically hung up on me while I was in the middle of saying "thank you" after inquiring about a day that was booked. It's no use getting a good haircut if the people there are going to make you feel crappy about yourself during your appointment. I have actually met a couple of the stylists outside of the salon and they were very friendly. But something about the atmosphere in the salon just seems to bring out the snottiness in all of them.
Pros: good products, decent haircuts
Cons: rude/condescending staff
Long time fan here, I thought I'd give American Mortals a shout. LOVE THEM. I see Joe, and love him; I usually get cuts but recently had him do some highlights for me too and I love them. Anthony cuts my son's hair and we LOVE Anthony, and the kid loves AMMO so much, would happily move in. I am super happy they switched to Bumble & Bumble, since I have been using their styling products for a lot of years now. The atmosphere of the place is really unique and inviting and funky, like your living room, and everyone feels like your friend. Now, I can't be sure they feel like that about us, but I hope so, and there is no question I'll keep coming back.
Pros: The un-snootiest high-quality salon out there; awesome people.
Cons: none.
ok so this place has a real chill atmosphere.. and some pretty talented, unique stylists.. but what good is all that if they dont have the right personality?? im a hairstylist myself and i wanted to try this place out cuz its edgy and i love edgy looks.. so i went in and tried out sandi for my new bob haircut i wanted.
( bob=long in the front short in the back).. though i didnt want a real dramatic bob at the time.. it was still a bob.. sandi was very unprofessional with her personality.. she talked down to me as if she rode on some high horse and i was jus some other stupid client. im telling her how im excited bout my new bob cuz i havent had a different look in a while.. and she jus replied, straight-faced "well.. i wouldnt call this a real bob".. listen.. a bobs a freakin bob.. get over yourself. she did a good job.. but mainly because they use amazing bumble and bumble products in that salon. so my hair was very silky and smooth. so i mean if i ever return to that place, i most likely wouldnt stay a loyal client to sandi. she was very rude and pushy when it came to buying products and small talk. a good stylist shouldnt jus be great at hair.. its the whole package honey.
Pros: chill edgy atmosphere
Cons: rude, snotty, unprofessional
I've been going to AMMO practically since it opened and to Joe Adams practically since he came on board there. Though I'm now gray and live in the suburbs and probably am not city-cool enough for the shop anymore, I'm grandfathered in apparently, because they treat me nice, squeeze me in for appts, and generally make me feel welcome. And Joe is just awesome. He gives me a very short haircut that's by no means butch and that gets nonstop comments from women who always "wish they had the face for it." Trust me, ladies, it's not my face -- it's the great cut. I've taken to carrying around Joe's card to hand out; I get THAT MANY compliments on my hair. And did I mention it's practically no maintenance? And, incredibly, it's not always the same. Joe always sits me down and asks what we're doing this time, like there's a lot of possibility when you start with an inch and a half of hair. But somehow he manages to switch it up a bit when I feel like it. Thanks, Joe -- you rock!
Pros: Joe is a great guy and gives a great cut; free snacks in the back!
Cons: Parking is tough
I have been going to American Mortals for years to see Joe.
Joe is a great stylist with a lot of experience and I always have a good time getting my hair done. He is super busy and worth the wait. Magic!
The guy at the front desk is generally rude but, you only have to talk to him for a sec..then the stylists take over.
Pros: great cuts and color
Cons: rude front desk staff
I certainly enjoy the atmosphere at AM MO- and have had several successful "innovative" haircuts. :) Sandi works with what I want and what she thinks will look best with my type of hair. Though I did feel forced into buying some of the products there- they actually were a good recommendation in the end.
AM MO is a little bit more than I've paid at other places- but the haircut (and shampoo) is better than I've gotten at other places too :)
I set up an appointment based on a recommendation of a friend. I was completely disappointed with the results. My appointment was with Becky. During our consultation I pointed out that I would prefer if she didn't do certain things with my layers because in the past it had caused my hair to be more difficult to style. Despite bringing along pictures for ideas for the layers, she basically told me that I wouldn't be able to do those things with my hair because it wasn't the correct texture. (Bear in mind, prior stylists were able to do these layering techniques without any hesitation or any problems.)
I went to American Mortals because of the fun, funky atmosphere which I was hoping to translate into my hairstyle. I left with the equivilant of a chop shop sorority girl flippy style. Not at ALL what I wanted.
I can't complain about the price, she only charged $50.00, however she pushed the Bumble & Bumble products so much I was just appalled. I mean, I'm glad to spend money on products, don't get me wrong...but please don't push it on me during the first visit. Well, on the other hand maybe she has to do that because judging from the reviews it looks like most "first visits" end up being the last.
Maybe the other stylists are better but I'm not going back to find out. There are so many salons in this city, who would waste their time.
Pros: funky atmosphere
Cons: they think they are too hip for their own good
...though this adorable salon is popular it's not going to be for long. I returned several times with the hopes that
different stylists would serve true but I left more disappointed every visit. I found that the service was friendly and always off to a great start but as soon as we got started the nightmares began. Each visit with different
stylists played out the same sad song. Too fast, don't listen and train wreck endings. It seems I am not alone in this as most I have spoken to have had similar if not worse hair styles from the MORTALS.
we just need a few GOOD stylists in this city who actually care about their art form....sigh
Pros: great atmosphere
Cons: horrible stylists
What a cool concept for a salon. My boyfriend and I shopped after getting some rockin cuts! You should try Am. Im glad I did.
Pros: great furniture
I love getting my hair done at American Mortals but the guy at receptionist desk is horrible. I just found out that he owns the place! I am appalled at the service he provides and his snotty attitude in general.
I used to wonder how it was that he was working there and now I am rethinking supporting a place that is run by someone that rude.
Pros: great hair
Cons: snotty owner, pressure to buy more
just as you diligently search for the right physician to take care of your body, most of us put the same time & effort into finding the best stylist. my search is over. my stylist is anthony. he is the first one to ever get what i so poorly describe in words & make it happen on my head. and he does it one step better by making it fit my hair type & face so it is as flattering as possible. i was ecstatic after my first cut & haven't been let down since. i also have to say that the entire staff at american mortals are funky-cool & down-to-earth nice. not like other trendy salons where they make you feel like your in the presence of royalty. the decor at american mortals is just an added bonus. unique & eclectic in a way that makes you wish you would have though of it first. great salon, great people, great cuts & great vibes! *****
Pros: center city location, decent prices, great stylists
Cons: none that i can think of
The first time I went to AM, I went with picture in hand of the exact cut I wanted. Heidi was my stylist... I think that she tried her best - the haircut I got was nice and looked OK on me, but it looked nothing like the picture I had brought in. I was a little dismayed but generally satisfied. The next time I needed a cut I decided to give them another try, but with a different stylist. This time I had Shari.... I wanted an extremely simple cut (bob with bangs), but somehow she messed it up. My whole hair length was about an inch longer than I had requested. My bangs, which I had asked be trimmed to about 1/2 in above my eyebrows, were IN my eyes. When she said she was done I looked in the mirror with a look of disbelief and asked her to trim my bangs some more. She said she didn't want to because she was scared to. What?!? Aren't you supposed to be the one with the training. She gave me some lame excuse as to how she didn't think it was a good idea, and I decided to cut my losses there and not even ask her to correct the rest of my hair. I wasted another fifty bucks for a butcher/amatuer job I could have gotten at kindercuts.... only to have to go home and cut my hair myself (and my bangs look great now, no thanks to her). All in all, you MIGHT get a good cut here, but for 50 bucks, it's not worth it to try and find out if your luck is with you that day. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
Pros: somewhat comfortable atmosphere.
Cons: condenscending, poorly trained stylists.
I went here because it was recommended to me by someone I meet on the train who had really great hair. Unfortunately, I didn't remember the stylist's name who did her hair, only the place and so, i made an appointment. I should have left after the consultation once I got in this stylist's chair but felt stuck and thought, how bad could it possibly be? Really bad, apparently. At first, I thought the girl's bleached out, fried-looking hair was a bad sign in itself, and then she talked in a condescending tone to me, telling me what's in and trendy, as if i was exuding a hick sense of style (i may have been dressed down, as it was my day off, but I do work for a local style magazine, thank you very much, miss thing). After repeatedly telling her I did not want my rather newly highlighted hair changed despite her need to redo my entire look, I thought we came to an agreement/understanding about the cut I was after. While the outlying shape is what I was looking for, my hair looks like an animal chewed on it. I like razoring, but this is nothing short of butchering. I can't even get it fixed elsewhere yet as it is way too short.
Cons: Horrible haircut, and girls, you know how devastating that can be
Don't go to Becky! She so self centered, she doesn't have the CAPACITY to listen. When she talks to you, she consistently makes eye contact with HERSELF in the mirror. CREEPY. Hope the band works out Becky, cause you need a new day job.
Pros: other stylists aside from Becky seem skilled
Cons: Becky may ruin your hair, she ruined mine
I love the window display. I used to go here a couple years ago and they had creative and funky T-shirts and toys for sale. It's what drew me in to visit for the first time.
After a haircut with Becky, my hair was 1/2 longer on the left side. I needed to go somewhere to get it corrected.

Pros: The staff seems nice enough
if you want someone who can cut your hair how you want and even better, go to sandi. i've been wanting a certain kind of a haircut for years (neat but a little messy/free) and have never been able to get stylists to cut my hair like that. today that all changed! i told sandi (super stylist) what i wanted, i wasn't that articulate but she was able to put words to what i meant which always makes me happy (she takes hair seriously, probably the most meticulous stylist i've experienced) plus, she also gives great styling tips. i'm terribly near sighted and don't wear contacts so it's always a bit of surprise to see what a stylist has come up with when i put on my glasses. but this time, was revelatory! i put on my glasses when sandi finished with my hair cut, and it was perfect! truly, exactly what i wanted and even better. after years of various salon visits that just didn't satisfy, i walked out of my hair cut completely grateful for sandi's amazing talent...
Pros: very skilled stylists, very fun atmosphere! great location...
If you like to be surprised that the haircut or color is not what you asked for, then this place could be for you. But, if you know what you want, which is a trim, you might get a little more then you bargained for when they take off 6?. And, it may bum you out, if you were looking to boost to your dark brunette locks with highlights and you end up ash blond. This is an industry where you can?t get a return when it isn?t what you wanted?it takes time to grow out!
I admit that it could have been anyone dying by hair but luckily I got Becky. She was AWESOME! I, stupidly, had died my hair black (from blonde) on monday. Yes I know I should not have used a box dye, but I did and then regretted it. So I looked on line, saw the awesome reviews that American Mortals recieved and decided to give them a shot. The entire experience was great. They are friendly, helpful and fairly inexpensive. I totally recommend giving them a shot for both cut and color. I will definitely go back! Thanks Becky for saving me from myself.
PS Becky called me prior to my arrival to see what she was up against. I thought it was great that she took the time to be prepared before I even got there!!
Pros: Friendly knowledgable staff, great color and cut
sandi brings experience, style and freshness to the philadelphia scene of hairstyle. she had done my highlights before at another salon & i loved it. but, i was growing out my hair then & was not ready for a cut. 8 months later, i was ready for a change - a short cut. i followed sandi's career path, so i asked her this time to cut 8 inches of my hair. at 1st she was reluctant to cut my hair & i don't blame her for asking me 2x. i'm a picky client and i knew where she was coming from. sandi knew what client service was all about - please the customer first. i told her the features i didn't like - the roundness of my face. an hour later, voila, she added a whole new dimension to my look. everyone has been asking me for sandi's number & where did i get my haircut. go check out american mortals & ask for sandi. i was also watching another hairdesigner doing highlights on someone's hair. i am pretty picky, but, i liked his work too. i like this place. i'm glad i have finally found a hair salon in philadelphia. no more weekend trips to NYC for haircut, when sandi & american mortals are here. agn.
Pros: great hairdesigners, funky shop and leave your attitude at the door
Cons: i wish i could keep this place to myself.
A friend of mine from work recommended me to American Mortals. I made an appointment about 15 minutes before I came in... and for a 3 hour procedure, that's awesome! The place has a great space--- it gives them the perfect opportunity to be pretentious (that was a fear of mine) and it is completely the opposite. Everyone there seems very laidback and knowledgeable, and you get a free consultation/budget evaluation as soon as you sit down. Prices were amazing, and let me say, that Sandi my hairdresser, was a godsend. Not only did she give me a fantastic style, but the highlights she gave me are so beautiful. She warned me that it might be a little bit more high maintanence -- very honest, and I appreciate it -- and showed me what she used to style, and the best products to buy to manage it. This place is amazing... and I'm so glad I found it as an option. The free snackies don't hurt either. I will probably not go anywhere else for as long as I live in the city.
Pros: What you get for the money, a stylist who cares about what you're saying, relaxing space
Cons: I would say parking but I live in center city so... none
American Mortals rocks! This is the best hair salon I have ever visited. Its atmosphere is really chill, and the staff welcomes you as soon you walk into the door. Joe cut my hair--based on recommendation--and he was freakin' unbelievable. I've never had a hairdresser listen to what I wanted so precisely. And he'll even add his own artistic innovation But he doesn't press you to do anything. It's really up to you. I recently moved away from Philly, and am partly writing this review out of heartache. I've found out that American Mortals is the best. Everything else is simply subpar.
Pros: Joe, chill environment, artsy slant
Cons: Parking
I just want to say that I've used city search alot to find great places to go, and this the first real disappointment. I went on the more positive reviews that I read, and I've walked by this hip little salon quite a bit, and decided to try it out. I especially liked the artsy vibe, but no matter how chill the place seemed, it still didn't make up for the horrible haircut I received. The girl who cut my hair, frayed it to shreds. It was almost as if "DAMAGED" was the look she was going for. When I went to get it fixed at another salon(Thalia, just up the street), I ended up having to get much more than I wanted cut off to fix this disaster.
Cons: shredded hair, my hair looked healthier before the cut
I had my hair cut by Sandi the other day and in short, she's amazing. Ive had so many compliments on the cut - it feels great. Her attention to detail and her relentless pursuit of the perfect cut does not go unnoticed. She really enjoys what shes doing and it definitely came out in the final product. It was funny, I thought she was finished a couple times and then as I was about to get out the chair, she reached into her tool belt one more time so that she could shape a little bit more here and there. I enjoyed my time at American Mortals and will definitely be back!!!
Pros: snacks in the back, funky atmosphere
I am new to Philly and went on CitySearch to find a good salon. American Mortals is a real funky place--and the staff is so great. HEIDI did a terrific job with my fine hair--her haircut gave my hair actual shape! It's a really fresh, up to date look. Also, the highlights in my hair look very natural and bright. People always tell me how great my hair looks. I have now found my "hair place" in Philly.
Pros: Thoughtful Staff, Snacks....
Cons: Hmmm...don't know right now.
I just had a spectacular experience at American Mortals! Sandi gave me the best haircut I have ever had. She gave me a cut that is perfect for my face. I told her vaguely what I wanted and then she worked her magic and made it look amazing. My husband is also very happy with Sandi's work.
I moved from Manhattan to Philly three years ago and thought, foolishly, that I had to go to a high-priced salon to get a good haircut. Pierre & Carlo, East End Salon, Phoenix - they were all okay but nothing amazing. I found American Mortals, on this site actually, and decided to check it out. The reviews are right. The guy who answered the phone was incredibly friendly and got me in that day. I got an appointment with Sandi, who is amazing. She had a big smile when she greeted me and explained the products she was using when shampooing and styling my hair (but never pushed anything). Before we did anything, we sat down in front of the mirror and talked about what I wanted.
Now a lot of stylists do this, but very few actually listen. You can see it in their eyes - they check out after two seconds and do what the want to anyway. Sandi really discussed my hair with me. I knew it was too long and shapeless and I wanted layers but Sandi really helped me think through what I wanted from the haircut.
The cut was very thorough and precise and she taught me how to play with it to get more formal or more casual looks. I have not had a better haircut in years, certainly not in Philadelphia and I am bummed because now that I found the perfect stylist, I am moving to Chicago.
I am in my mid-thirties and teach at a university. I found the funky decor adorable and very accessible because everyone that works there is very friendly and happy. No one has an attitude which can often afflict nice places and dumpy places equally. They do keep dried fruit and candy in the backroom which you can help yourself to.
After a great haircut (and it still looks good a week later) - the bill was $50. I don't know if the prices will stay there, but I find that incredibly affordable especially given the quality of the cut and the products used.
So yes, check it out, esp if you're tired of snooty places with average service.
Pros: Great service, friendly staff, excellent cut
Cons: Street parking
I'm usually intimidated by the cool-factor of most salons, but at AmMo I felt comfortable from the minute I walked in (ever seen stylists dancing?). Don't miss the lounge area in back with free chocolate!!
Sandi is fantastic - I can't rave enough about her. I got a new cut and color and Sandi did a fabulous job with both. She was really concerned with finding the right hairstyle for my personality and lifestyle and she absolutely succeeded. I won't be going anywhere else.
Pros: Sandi, mmm... snacks!!!, great atmosphere
I read all the reviews online and was so excited to go here and have my hair done. I will agree that the staff is great, and the price is reasonable, but this was the most crooked haircut I've ever had. Most of my friends note my cut as "edgy" but it does not work with my curls. I have a huge 'bush' left on one side of my head b/c the cut is so lop-sided. With all the other great reviews, I expected better. Unfortunately, this was my experience.
after so many recommendations, i tried AM out. The atmosphere at AM is lovely -- but $50 again for a hair dont ...no thanks.
Pros: Atmosphere, Friendly Staff, Cute Salon
Cons: Bad cuts!, Expensive
a really wonderful cut from someone who hates sitting in the chair.
Pros: chill
After a horrible haircut at another Phily salon I tried out AM. I was so glad that I did because I had such a great experience. The staff was nice, Joe gave me an amazing haircut and I felt very much at home (not like some other places where they figure they are doing you a favor by letting you in). Joe totally listened to what I wanted , worked his magic and I came home with a great cut. I won't go anywhere else.
Pros: Price, Location, Staff
Heidi did a phenomenal job with my long thin hair - she colored it beautifully, cut it to give it more body, and introduced me to the only hair product I've ever used that makes my hair full and bouncy. I have cut my hair in almost every major salon in Philadelphia, so I have a basis of comparison. In fact, she was so great, I went back three weeks later to have my hair done for a formal occasion and it was the talk of the party. SHE IS AMAZING, I recommend both the stylist and the salon HIGHLY
Pros: music, people, cut
I love virtually everything about American Mortals, and I'm secretly in love with Joe Adams. Besides being a delight to spend time with, he's an exceptionally talented hiardresser. Joe will either do it "your way", add helpful suggestions, or go off on his own artistic way and make you into a movie star! He's very accommodating, takes his time, and is a perfectionist. What more can I say? Joe is a super star in a truly wonderful salon.
I highly recommend that individuals schedule an appointment with Anthony!! He is wonderful.
I hadn't had my hair cut in over six months since moving to Philly. I have a fear of going to new people to cut my hair, and the salons in Philly all seemed a bit snooty and pretentious, which is not my thing. Finally decided to go to AMMO after walking by it a million times. I was able to get an appointment the same day I called, Anthony did a great job with my difficult fine hair, and had ideas for me, as I never really know what I want to do with my hair. The staff was friendly, the atmosphere was very relaxed, the music was good, and there were free snacks.
Pros: free snacks, relaxed atmosphere
have been dreading getting a haircut for months--been cutting/dying my own locks for a while now, but sucked it up and dropped in the AM. soooo glad i did. Anthony did an awesome job and really knew what i was talking about--and then did exactly what i asked and more. besides that, everyone in the store was so nice and friendly and the selection of cupcakes and combos made the wait time pass like nothing at all. if you're looking for good hair......this is the place
Pros: candy, great stylists, affordable
Congratulations on Philly's Best for Color in 2004!!! Also, smart move being open 7 days a week, 11 a.m.- 7 p.m. It makes my life that much easier!
Pros: great decor , down to earth, very chill feel
Just moved here and looking for a low key salon with good stylist and this is the place! Joe was the best! He gave me a great cut that I can even style good myself and the color is the best I've had. He was funny and listened to me.
A great stylist at a great salon.
Pros: good music, low-key, candy
