It's a little dirty looking...but they make great vegetarian food. It's kind of expensive for a sandwich but they give you a lot of "meat" so it's worth it.

I really love Giannas faux meat cheesesteaks. They are delicious, huge, and extremely satisfying. Its also a great place to take friends who do eat meat. They also have a large array of delicious vegan treats like cakes, cupcakes, cheesecakes, cannolis etc. I only wish they were open later and had a more organized system for ordering.. it always seems really crowded and people just sort of stand awkwardly in the little space provided while others are constantly trying to squeeze past.

Pros: delicious veggie junk food, cheap

Cons: somewhat small, weird hours

I've been here many times, and I'm falling out of love with it. The novelty of being able to get vegan junk food has worn off. I get slices there, but the crust is always hard and dry. The last time, there was so little (fake) cheese on it that I could see more sauce than cheese. It should cover the top. Some of the toppings they have are good in theory, but the execution just isn't quite right (e.g., artichokes - they should be chopped much smaller, not dropped on in huge pieces). I do like getting vegan cheesesteaks, which are huge. (I only get them when I'm sharing.) The desserts are really good. Sometimes there seems to be an attitude that leaves me feeling like I'm intruding. Is it too much to ask that they have a soap dispenser? (They have soap, but it's always in the huge refill bottle - or at least it has been the dozens of times I've been there.) All in all, when I'm in the mood for junk food, I'll go here.

I have frequented their place many times, and oddly enough, the food that you get if you call for delivery doesn't stand up to what you get in the establishment. For a long time Gianna's didn't have delivery. To resolve this problem they opened another place, Gianna's jr. around 20th and South and got delivery. unfortunately, they have about 1/4 of what is on Gianna's typical menu. Beware that if you call the original gianna's to place an order because the other doesn't have what you want, you won't get treated very nicely. By the time the delivery was received the food was settled and soggy. When an attempt was made to retreive money for the gross food order the patron was told it was their problem for not order from the "correct Gianna's" and to not order from them again. Treating patrons unfairly doesn't score brownie points.

Cons: Bad Service, Unorganized Delivery, crowded

An excellent place for both vegetarians and non-vegitarians. The menu is typical grill fare. You have the standard burgers, pizza, fries, ice cream as well as vegitarian versions of philly cheesesteaks, burgers, and other sandwiches. They also have great desert options.

Gianna's is a little restaurant in Philadelphia that specializes in vegetarian and vegan food, although I think there might be other options on the menu too. They even make a vegan type of Philly Cheese Steak. I had some pizza that was good. They have a selection of desserts, too, and I think I remember hearing that they make their own soy "cheese".

I have been a patron of this establishment for years now, and I still go even after all the controversy surrounding it. (...and the discovery that the cheese they used up until summer of 2004 was not vegan...) People would come from all over the northeast to visit this place, and while the quality/taste of their vegetarian/vegan items has changed since they switched "vegan" cheeses, it's still worth checking out. They offer faux-cheesesteaks and chicken cheesesteaks (available with vegan/regular cheese) as well as many types of vegan/vegetarian pizza. The best part might be their selection of vegan desserts - go for any slice of chocolate cake or cheesecake - which are now baked on the premises. Another major pro is that this place also serves real meat items, so you don't have to eat by yourself if you can't find a non-meat eater to take with you.
