Waiting for a beer in a bar is worse than not having beer near you at all. Or watching others drink when you should have glass in hand. Having lived in the neighborhood for a year, I advise you to go somewhere else, if you want a beer in the within 15 minutes of sitting down at the bar. They may not even notice you then. Maybe take a bell, flag, or road flare in with you. Spare yourself the lost time from your life and go up the street. They have more beer and better service. I rejoiced when another restaurant opened in Mt Airy. Really, my prayers for decent service were answered, and I could finally, truly flip them off with the knowledge that I had another neighborhood bar to go to, and could leave Mcmenamins behind.

Better than being at the Eagles game if that's what you are looking for on a Sunday. Other big local sports events can be just as entertaining. The beer selection is good. The waitstaff and bar staff is reliable. The food is even better. Go there for dinner any night with no big sports events going on & it's just a great local restaurant with an excellent chef. Anything on the menu is good - fish & chips, Portobello mushroom anything, wings, best soups are some of my favorites.

On game days this place can be VERY loud with a pack of drunks watching the game. Go past them to the seating area in the back for food. The beer selection on tap is good and they have a wide selection of bottled beer.

The fish and chips is great and worth the trip.

There is a parking lot behind the pub right next to the health club that empties out when the health club closes each evening.

We get to McMenamin's once a month or more and go for the very good dinner menu. I'm partial to their burgers (have never had a 'shroom and provolone as good!). My partner loves their portabello melt sandwich. But, they have much else besides. Then there's the beer. Terrific selection of local and craft brews on tap!

Great neighborhood bar that won't empty your wallet....unless you plan to stay all night. Standard pub food is served in a seating area in the back (mostly families during dinner hour) & outside (more intimate, couples, younger crowd), but most people come here to hang out & get wasted with their friends. Despite the meat-market vibe when you walk thru the door, McMenamin's is a pretty cool place, with a great beer selection (don't order wine), friendly bartenders & great location right in the heart of Mt. Airy. Parking's a bit tight, but there's a lot to do on this block: a few steps away are a jazz club, restaurants, cultural center/theatre & coffeehouse. For those who don't want the party to stop, there's a liquor store right next door......

PROS: it's cheap, it's local & it's not chestnut hill
CONS: parking's tight
