My parents and I checked out a bunch of different schools in the area when I was 9. After watching numerous classes and meeting various instructors, it became obvious that AmKor was the best; the level of technique and professionalism is unmatched. After 10 years of training and competing that idea has only been reinforced. Amkor has given me outstanding opportunities, from developing the discipline to overcome life obstacles to winning Golds in World tournaments. You won't find a better school.

Roy obviously does not know Amkor and its philosophy!
My son started karate classes at another studio. We were not happy there and decided to make a change--we researched the schools in our Aston area. I was amazed to find that there are schools out there that are actually out there just for the money. They require you to sign contracts, give credit card/debit card information and promote these kids through the belt levels without them having the skills. My son had "bad habits" that he learned from this other school, but Amkor patiently corrected his mistakes. He loves going to his karate classes and MY SON made the decision to enter competition. They do not encourage children to compete unless this is something THEY want to do. They acknowledge it is not for everyone! The staff at Amkor is patient, kind, encouraging and promote self esteem. Amkor encourages its students to be confident individuals! I have and will continue to recommend Amkor Karate to my friends and to anyone who is looking for a first rate karate school! As far as I am concerned, I want my child to learn from the best and that is what he is getting at Amkor! My son proudly wears a red belt which he has worked so hard to achieve. We look forward to the day when he is promoted to black belt by the Masters at Amkor.

I would and do recommend this school to anyone interested in the martial arts. My family has trained at Amkor since the early 90's. I'm amazed by the passion that Master Scott has for karate and the interest he shows in every student. This school has been in business since 1977 and is well respected in the martial arts community. Master Scott has an extensive knowledge of the martial arts and produces some of the best martial artist in the world. I've seen him work with people that have special needs and the results are impressive. I've seen kids with little self esteem become confident, fit and proud. Before choosing a school, watch a class and ask if they have a no contract policy. We're there because we want to be there, not because we're held to a contract.

My son started at Amkor when he was in second grade, he has since gone on to earn his black belt. The school has helped instill a discipline and sense of pride in my son that he did not get from other sports.

The instructors at Amkor are committed to teaching and sharing a respect for this ancient art. When the students are sent for testing, it is because they are ready to test, and have the skills needed for that, not because they have been at a level for a period of time. We have developed very strong ties with the Amkor family and am proud to say that my family has continued to study there after more than 8 years.

I have never heard Master Scott, nor any of the other instructors, degrade any of the other schools in the area. All of the instructorsat Amkor carry themselves with the utmost professionalism and would not have to stoop to such low tactics.

I also find it disturbing that "Roy" feels he can comment negatively on several schools in the area, making me wonder if he is just a dissatisfied student, (jumping from school to school?) or perhaps someone employed by one of the 2 schools not attacked by him.

I was a little nervous the first day I stepped into Amkor to sign my son up. I was 44 years old and thought to myself, boy I would have always wanted to learn karate... why not...there is not time like the present. For the past 2.5 years, I have been attending Amkor classes and am going to take the black belt test this year. I started with Amkor thinking it would be physically and mentally challenging (which it is!) but have found it to be so much more. I have toned my body, disciplined my mind and, very unexpectedly, have built strong bonds and friendships with people in Amkor. If one can 'hang' and train with people over a period of time, something special happens. It's wonderful. The reason this happens is a function of the culture that Master Scott and Master Tierney, as well as the other instructors, have created. They have a disciplined approach for people who want to be there. It must be a mutual "want to be there" that is not driven by contracts, but is driven by respect and learning practical applications on how to protect yourself. The students don't just learn 'moves' but learn the thinking behind the moves, which is very important as one must understand why we are doing what we are doing. Amkor has been a wonderful experience on many levels and would encourage people at any age with the willingness to learn and the courage to sign up to go for it!

Best karate school in the area and possibly in the state. Amkor karate is not watered down karate. It's real karate and they stick to the traditional methods and values of the art. They do not trap people into a contract. People who go to the school are there because they love it and love what it teaches. Amkor does not hand out black belts according to how much money you pay them. Not like some of the other schools. If someone says they are an Amkor black belt you know they know real karate. Not sure what that below poster is talking about... I have a child in the school who does not care to do tournaments, it's not her thing and she is treated just as well as the students who do attend the tournaments. I know Master Scott personally and he is one of the nicest people you will meet. He has helped many less fortunate students and their families out of his own pocket. You won't find a nicer, more honest man.

I find it odd that the reviewer "Roy B" that left this negative review also left bad reviews for several other schools in the area, all on the same day. There is no way that this person truly attended all of those schools. It must be someone with an ulterior motive.

This school that is run by Master Scott is only interested in winning tournaments and making there school look good they are very judge mental in the sense if you don't win anything for there school they treat you like crap! Master Scott talks about every other martial arts school in a degrading way but yet he treats his students awful and he thinks he is the greatest to human kind! He is a jerk people don't go there find a good humble instructor and a reputable school!
