I'm also a Texas transplant, and my wife and I consider ourselves experts in the realm of chips, salsa, and queso. One of the first places recommended to us for a Mexican food fix was MadMex, and we were eager to find a decent replacement for all the great restaurants we left back home. This was not it. I'm still surprised to hear how often it is recommended - the chips were hard and flavorless, the appetizer dips were gross (even the queso that combines two otherwise sure winners, Dox XX and cheese!) and the burritos they are famous for were really disappointing. The ground beef had almost no flavor, the tortillas tasted store-bought, and it had hardly any of the fresh "fixings" you would find at any taco truck on wheels closer to the border (lettuce, tomatoes, grated cheese, etc.). I'd recommend El Campesino instead if you're looking for good, affordable food or Franklin Inn if you want tasty margaritas and would prefer a cozy ambience (their food is less authentic but still good).

Pros: The place looks fun

Cons: Bad food, loud, and slow service

I'm surprised the other reviewers only gave this place 3 stars. This is as close as you get get to Tex-Mex without actually having to go to Texas. There are a lot of original choices on the menu, and there's sure to be something for everyone (they have quite a bit of vegetarian items - try the chick pea chili burrito!). I was excited when they opened this location as its closer to me than the Oakland one. We visit here quite frequently and we have never had a problem with our service. I do agree that the parking situation is a problem, especially during peak times. The restaurant is very small, and so is the parking lot. The store that is next to Mad Mex is NordicTrack, and they have signs posted everywhere about their parking spaces being for their patrons only. You can use their spaces when the store is closed, however.

Love mad mex another big burrito mexican restaurant. But dont reccommend this location. I have been here prob 4 times and each time something went wrong. Once the waitress even forgot to put our entree in! the calamari is usually great, but we went one night and they burnt ours they said then ran out so they brought us a half portion that was half cooked. They expected us to pay for it. I havent been to that location since. I highly reccommend the oakland location. Get the chix salad. its bomb. also the mad mex chix burrito rules.

This place is has a good food and great service. I would recomend it. The place has improved quite a bit since they expanded it. Parking is a hassle on some days.

I lived in south Texas for 30 years, so I've got an idea what Mexican food is all about. This isn't it. The salsa reminds me of Pace Picante and the chips are more like corn shingles than real chips. The food was good, but highly Americanized, which is a shame.

Continuing the big Burrito Restaurant Group's concept of zany-chic decor, youthful exuberance and wit everywhere, including the menu, this suburban outpost adds a bright, sunny enclosed patio to the original Mad Mex mix. Late-night diners…
