I joined 12th Street Gym a year ago when I moved to Philadelphia; I was trying to get in shape for my wedding & drop a few pounds - they are known throughout the area for good classes, which is what I was looking for - I easily surpassed by goal weight by doing a combination of 12th street's aerobics, yoga & pilates classes, as well as cardio & weight training - they have a great variety of equipment and facilities, including a sun deck, pool, and raquet ball courts. The instructors are great & will kick your butt. Classes are well scheduled to accomodate work - they have early am, lunch time and evening classes, and the gym is open from 5:30am to 11pm on weekdays. Most classes are 45 minutes to 1 hour, but they also have a few 20 minute abs classes that are a perfect add-on to a workout. Cardio studios don't have a lot in the way of A/V equipment - it's better if you have your own ipod or similar.
This gym is also a great deal - roughly $500/year, including all classes. They also have a tanning salon and chiropractor in-house.
PROS: Great value, good facilities
CONS: Limited A/V equipment
