Just off the Italian Market in the small Lebanese enclave, this market is the place to go to get your pita, hummus, grape leaves, etc. Everything's good and it's worth a stop on your shopping list.

You can find excellent quality goods here.
They are a favorite of mine for purchasing items like pomegranate syrup or mustard oil.
Nice selection of prepared food.

Best Falafels in Philly

Bitars is a neighborhood institution. Ask anyone where you can get the best falafel & they'll probably send you here. The South Philly location is my favorite, because it's the original, they carry a huge selection of Meditteranean spices, dry goods, prepared foods, & freshly baked pita breads. They have bulk bins so you can get a bag of beans or flour to go. A stack of indescribably flavorful spiced bread sits enticingly by the door, so you might as well forget about leaving without trying it. And they have a small seating area & counter, which I highly recommend using. Many an unwary customer has attempted to eat a falafel on the go & wound up with a majorly stained shirt.
PROS: delectable breads, great prices, bulk bins, personable staff
CONS: none

BEST Gyros in the city!
by Rayman19107
Order the Mediterranean Gyro, it's the best. Not in the mood for a gyro? Order whatever sounds good to you on the menu. I'm sure you will enjoy it! Great Falafel too
Pros: Fast, Delicious

Best Grilled Platters
by gsons
If ever in South Philly, this is a must. One block from Geno's and Pat's Steaks. You won't find cheese steaks and fries here... But you will find the absolute best grilled chicken I've every had anywhere. The staff is friendly, and the atmosphere is unique. You can sit in and eat or take out. Vareity/grocery store attached is well stocked with every imagineable item you'd enjoy. Food is always fresh; 5 or more different types of Feta cheese (Greek, French, etc.); the pita bread is delivered fresh every morning. They also do catering for any size affair/group. They provide everything you would need, and more... I highly recommend Bitar's to anyone looking for the BEST grilled food!
Pros: Great food. Low prices. Large portions.

Far away but so worth it.

A co-worker took me here and I was surprised. I was not a fan of Middle Eastern food before and Bitar's changed that. I had the grilled chicken platter and it was awesome. If you are ever in the neighborhood you have to drop by. They even have a small grocery store attached to the take out that has a lot of cool stuff.
Pros: price, great food, friendly staff
Cons: location, location, location
