Those bad reviews are Fishy--Therapy Knows their stuff!
by mike m.
Greets... Mcget here from Trophy Bikes -- in skimming the various city sites, I've noticed the same angry pans of Bike Therapy, using the same phrases with variations on the theme. It seems like one or two individuals all taking lots of time to pan Therapy--and incidentally, plug another shop.
Also noticed someone who seems outraged at reasonable measures that professional bike shops often must take, like asking a deposit for appointments--the reason for this is very clear.
A shop has a schedule, and when customers make and then cancel appointments, mechanics are left with no work--just as doctor's offices charge for blown appointments, the better pro shops (which Therapy certainly is), often do the same.
Cancelling an appointment after "getting tired of waiting..." then demanding the deposit back is not too realistic. That's how it works in the real world. These rules aren't for fun, they're to try and keep a business rolling smoothly and serve the customers as best we can.
Another odd complaint is to object when a salesperson says "that's too much bike for you..." -- an observant bike salesperson can easily tell when someone is ready (OR NOT) for a really expensive race bike. That salesperson did the honest thing and said you'd have just as much fun/exercise etc. on a less expensive bike--that was a good thing, not an insult. It's our job to help you choose from the literally hundreds of bicycles out on the market today.
That said, please take these poison pen letters about Therapy with a grain of salt--or two. They have good mechs, good bikes, and if you are straight with them, you'll have a good biking experience.

If you are a woman do not go here!
by Anonymous
These are the rudest bunch of store employees I have ever met. I would never buy anything from them again let alone have them work on my bike. I brought my hybrid bicycle in for repair, it is nothing special but it never gets stolen. They told me they would have it for three weeks, it just needed a tune up. When I got it back, it looks like it was never touched and they charged me $50.00. Do they think be cause I am a girl I would not know better. I had been looking at road bikes there the day I brought my bike in for repair, they told me, "you don't want that bike." referring to the high end road bike I was looking at, they told me it was too much bike for me.
I went to Breakaway, they are always so nice there, they sold me a great bike. I took there classes and coaching and now even race my bike. I don't let anyone touch my bikes except for Jonas at Breakaway, top notch mechanic!

BUT LEE,, THE OWNER AND HIS CREW KNOW THE WHOLE WORLD OF BIKES WITH PERSONAL ATTENTION, AND IF THEY DONT HAVE THE BRAND YOU WANT, HE'LL GET IT...AND GREAT SERVICE AND PRICE....HANDS DOWN. I'VE BEEN THERE FOR TEN YEARS, HE LIVES RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER, A GREAT CYCLIST AND PRETTY HIP.

Good shop, bad policies.
by William H.
Moved from Boston to the neighborhood and was excited to see a good bike shop in the neighborhood. Took two bikes in for service and was told that appointments were booked for 3 weeks and I would need to put down a deposit to make those appointments. I have never heard of a bike store taking appointments, rather giving an estimate for how long it would take. If they are that busy, just say it will take three weeks. Have not been able to make it to my appointment and they refuse to refund deposit. My mistake to ever agree to a bizarre policy, but I will not be back.

I am very fond of Bicycle Therapy because I feel that the people who work there really care about bicycles AND the customer. Some bike shops have a snooty feel, but not this store. The first time I was there, I was looking for a bike lock, and they actually recommended a lock that was less than the one I was thinking about getting! I've also been in there to get flat tires fixed, which I've done before but I'm not very good at it. For $10, they fixed my flat and I was able to pick it up the next day. An added plus is that they have free air for your tires on the outside of the store.

I love this store it is like heaven they have everything you can think of in all sizes. It might be pricy but it is worth it.Friendly sales associates. They have all the accesories you need and some you did not even thought you needed. Everything from bags, backpaks and helmets. They have a great variety in makers too. They also offer a full service repair shop that can do tune-ups, adjustments, flat repair and any other repair needed. This store is really a great shop. They carry the best brands and the service is top notch.

Bicycle Therapy is a really great bike store with all sorts of merchandise for cyclists. They have a huge selection of mountain, suspension, road, fitness, BMX, and hybrid bikes. They carry all the top brands and all different models. They also have a large section devoted to apparel and accessories, like arm and leg warmers, clothing, bike shorts, logo shirts, bags, backpacks, pumps, and helmets. They really have everything you need to get started or keep up with your cycling hobby. The store is large and in nice condition and parking is good.

Still great after all these years
by poliscifi
Lee built me an awesome single-speed cyclocross a few years ago. He got me a great price on what is a pretty high-end bike; and the wheels that he built for it were bomb proof. If you're looking for expert service, Therapy is one of the best bike shops in the city.
Pros: Great service, great bikes, good value

Very bad experience, will never go back.
by 19146er
I'm an experienced cyclist and live really close to this shop, but I'll never go back. I went in with my girlfriend, I was looking for a bike and so was she.
I wanted a fixed-gear road bike for commuting around town and exercise rides. I have a good mountain bike. The person who was 'helping' us told me to pump up the tires and lock out the shocks on my mountain bike and pretty much blew me off.
My girlfriend was looking for a singlespeed road bike or maybe a cruiser for short rides around the city. She hasn't been on a bike in years and was looking for something simple and lightweight so she can carry it. The salesman kept trying to steer her to mountain bikes, which she didn't want, and bikes that were clearly too large for her. I guess it's all they had in stock. He didn't listen to what she wanted or offer any really good suggestions other than that she 'would get used to' a bike she said was not comfortable to ride.
The salesman didn't listen to our needs, didn't offer any good suggestions given what we both wanted in our respective bikes, and was rude and condescending. He acted like we were idiots and he knew what was right for us.
We went to Erlton Cycles, a small shop in Cherry Hill, NJ, and had a totally better experience. I got a Raleigh Rush Hour, which rides great and was exactly what I was looking for, and my girlfriend got a flat-bar road bike that she's very happy with.
It's a shame since we live practically next door, but I can not recommend this place to anyone. Gave it one star since no stars didn't seem to be an option.
Pros: Location, selection, decent brands.
Cons: Poor service, bad attitude.

Great Bike Store
by flyers13
I got my 1st road bike there in July, the service has been excellent everytime I've been in there. I got my 1st tune up the other week, they scheduled it quickly and I had my bike back in 1 day. Also for the 1st time ever I actually got the service plan, free tune ups for 3 years for $30. I'll buy my next bike there as well.
Pros: helpful staff

Great little Bike Store on South! This was my 2nd tune -up.
by mingster215
I really appreciate this store. I use my bike everyday to go to-and-from work.
My first visit was when I first got my bike last summer 2007 - the brakes needed a tuneup. The staff in the store were all busy but they were very helpful. When they checked my bike and they knew it would take no more than 10 minutes to adjust the brakes - they tend to it right away.
Their charge for that simple adjustment was very reasonable.
Today I brought my bike in (I had a spill a few days ago and misaligned everything) - again, I noticed the staff were all busy - but still they took the time to check my bike and knowing that it would take no more than 10 minutes to readjust everything - they did so. They also took the time to caution me and explained that my front wheel suspension was shot and what I needed to do to have this repaired.
The staff was very helpful and I adore that dog that greeted me when I first walked in.
When its time to buy a new bike - I will be back!
Pros: Professional, courteous, very reasonable price for labor, free air

I would never go anywhere else
by greenhammer
I love this bike shop! I didn't know that much about different bikes, but when I went to buy one, I couldn't have received more help. They explained everything to me and made sure I understood. I did not feel like they were condescending at all. The bike fitting was amazing and my bike feels perfect. They were so helpful and down to earth. I really will never go anywhere else from now on.
Pros: great customer service, great selection
Cons: none that I can think of

Rude, Obnoxious and condesending
by fh101
If you are a woman don't buy your bike here! The people here were rude, obnoxious, and condesending. I was really excited to buy my first bike I live nearby to this store and thought it would be good to buy a bike near where I live. Was I ever wrong, I got a bad vibe the second I walked in. The staff was to busy flirting with each other, then to notice me, I almost walke out, but decided to approach them. One young man, who smelled really bad, begrudgingly assisted me. There was one bike I thought I would like, but he basically told me I wouldn't want that bike. Why I asked, he told me it was too much bike for me. There selection wasn't great anyway. I ended up getting my bike at Breakaway! don't bother going anywhere else.
Cons: rude, obnoxious, condescending. Poor Selection.

Good shop but bad policies
by wharries
This is a nice enough bike shop and the folks working there seem nice enough, but they are not very helpful when it comes to getting a bike tuneup. Apparently they don't have anywhere to store your bike(s) while you're waiting for a tuneup, so you have to put down a deposit and wait for weeks until they have time for you. Of course that deposit is non-refundable once I decided that the wait was not worth it. There are better bike shops all over the city with service departments that are friendly and make an honest effort to get your bike in that day and have it back in a reasonable amount of time. My fault for falling for this "unique" policy, won't be going back for service or otherwise.
Pros: Organized store, nice staff
Cons: Bizarre/frustrating service policy
