When I went to Mexican Post it was one of the best experiences I have had at a restaurant. The service was excellent, the food was delicious and the price was just right.

I can't imagine why anyone who has eaten here would ever come for round two. There are so many amazing Mexican restaurants in the Phila area, there is no reason to settle for Mexican Post. The Tortilla soup looked and tasted like someone put tortillas and water in a blender and poured it in a dish. The black bean soup was thick and flavorless. The "snapper" tasted like it was previously frozen and was topped with what tasted like jarred salsa. The Veggie salad tasted pretty good going down, but both my partner and I suffered from stomach aches the rest of the night. If you want GOOD Mexican food, try Las Cazuelas at 4th and Girard or one of the many authentic taquerias near the Italian market. Tamarindos in Blue Bell has FREE awesome margaritas, savory soups, creative entrees, and a whole fresh grilled snapper encrusted in garlic that puts Mexican Post's snapper to shame.

In short, save your money....or go to Taco Bell; there's not really that much difference.

Pros: Good margarita

Cons: mediocre everything else

Met some friends at Mexican Post. The margaritas were excellent and the nachos were good (although very small) afterwards saw an extra 20$ charged to my credit card. I still had the receipt, and the first charge added up perfectly including tip which I had documented on both receipts, however there was an additional $20 even charge. Very obvious rip off. Called amex and they took it off. Thankyou amex. I don't take offense to bad service or even if a dish is done improper - every restaurant has bad days - but to try BLATENTLY rip me off? Thats where I draw the line. Won't be back there. Sorry.

The Mexican Post has great happy hours specials, the margaritas are so yummy! The appetizers and food are very tastey. The service tends to be good!

My friend invited me to the happy hour at Mexican Post and I'm so glad I came! The snacks are small-sized meals that are $1.25 so even if you had to get several of them, you'd still be paying less than $5! Margaritas by the glass or pitcher in varieties of flavors (we got the mango). The bartender was friendly and service was quick and efficient. Happy hour is 4:30-6:30 Monday through Friday so if you get a chance to go, don't miss out!

Pros: Happy hour, margaritas, service

I thought this place was very expensive for the quality. The atmosphere was nice but the actual food was lacking. The rice was lacking in flavor. I have had much better authentic Mexican food for about half the price.

Overall: It is OK, but don't expect anything fantastic.

The Mexican Post is a great happy hour bar- their pitchers of margaritas are good and cheap. The food is pretty consistently good. Service is good. They are friendly with kids, too.

I had dinner at the Mexican Post this week, and while I was satisfied with my entree, the dessert was not very good, and our waitress was less than friendly. I had the fajitas and they were good, but they didn't bring enough of the tortillas and the waitress said she would have to charge us for any additonal ones. The fried ice cream was not very good and we didn't even eat it. The selection of wines was terrible, and I ended up just having a soda since they didn't serve any decent chardonnay by the glass. After a long day of work, I would have liked to have relaxed with a nice glass of wine. I would suggest that the management try pouring at least one decent brand of California Chardonnay to please customers like us.

My boyfriend and I recently had dinner here on a Tuesday night. The service was quick, but maybe that was because it was pretty empty. We were extremely disappointed by the food. I ordered a mojito that was probably the worst I've ever had-- fairly strong, but no flavor. The chips they gave us were stale, and the salsa was clearly out of a jar. I ordered an enchilada and a tostada that were mediocre at best. They tasted like they had been prepared at home and microwaved, and my tostada had a strange, musty taste/smell to it. My boyfriend ordered the seafood enchiladas which were stuffed with imitation crab meat and tiny baby salad shrimps (confirmed by the waiter). Basically a very disappointing dinner, and we were both nauseous afterward. I know it was cheap, but I think we should be able to expect food that's at least fresh and tastes better than if we'd prepared it at home.

We took the kids to Old City for the day and they were excited that we chose to go to the Mexican Post for lunch! We (mom and dad) were also looking forward to the Margarita;s! Well we couldn't even score a basket of chips. The waiter avoided our table like the plague, visiting tables that weren't even occupied to wipe them, making sure the people that came in after us had everything they needed, clearing dishes from other tables. In 15 minutes, this waiter managed to do everything except take even so much as a drink order from me and my family. We asked for the manager after we got up to leave, and were told there wasn't one there-not good business at all!!! Bottom line-if you want bad service go there -if not take my advice and go somewhere else!!

The individual margaritas are a bit small, so if you think you'll want more than one, go for the pitcher to save a little cash. They are, however, delicious, as are the plentiful chips and salsa and the variety of authentic entrees. Service is fast and friendly, and the atmosphere, while bustling, is still comfortable. It's a nice change of pace from the mostly clubby spots on Chestnut and 2nd Sts.

Pros: The best margarita in town?

Cons: Parking is a challenge if you don't want to pay.

The food was quick, but bland. I got over that because the sangria was good. But then the check was dropped. No problem. 2 minutes later he asked us to get it to him when we were ready. Normal. 2 minutes after that we got "Ladies, if you wouldn't mind...I'd really like to leave." It was just plain rude. And after doing nothing but taking an order and dropping food. I would've liked to have not left a tip but I'm not that mean. I just won't go back...but here's your warning about the older waiter--he's not very nice! Avoid his section.

I have to say I am really surprised about all the previous reviews. We went with a large group of friends (with reservations) only to find out they wouldn't put together tables (because that would take up their dining space??). So that's the opening impression. Next, I am a big mexican food fan, so perhaps I'm a little critical - but my plate was unimpressive... and this included rice which tasted a bit stale. To their credit, the ropa vieja looked good (which I did not have), but it was curiously listed under "Mexican favorites." But that's not really a big deal.

Finally, the wait staff. Ohh, the wait staff. Rude and with attitude from the beginning (talking to us as if we were idiots for wanting to put tables together, then on the explanation of happy hour). When the bill arrived, we all started taking out our credit cards. The waitress quickly said, "we can't accept, like, six thousand credit cards. There's an ATM machine down the street." Even in Mexico they can do a better job handling these situations. I couldn't believe how they were treating us... and then I looked at the bill. 18% gratuity automatically included. I guess there went their incentive to act like decent people.

We went Saturday night (7/29/06) so of course it was very busy - but they seated us quickly and the waiter was good. The food came out pretty quick - we didn't wait long at all. Honestly, we could have ordered more sour cream, guacamole, etc., for more flavor, but without it, the food tastes very average/bland. The margaritas were good. I would go back, but I have been to other restaurants that had better food.

I have been to this Mexican Post 2 times in last six months (there is another one in Franklin Mill Mall). This is a great place, little cramped but that adds to the fun of eating here. Always a great young crowd. Food is tasty and not too expensive. Always had good service and the kitchen is really fast. Highly recommended.

Sorry but the main attraction is the alcohol. I love their margaritas -- try the mango with a splash of cointreau or grand marnier! Amazing. As for the food, I've been going for years now and honestly it is not good mexican. It's flavorless and sometimes too greasy. Perhaps the key is enough booze will make it all taste good enough. Fun environment and convenient for movie goers in a hurry to make it to their movie.

The ambience is kind of nice minus the typical classic rock blaring from the speakers. The food overall is not to be recommended. They don't know the difference between enchiladas and burritos and things are spicy just for the sake of being spicy. We got a pitcher of margaritas that didn't even have alcohol in it and was quite pricey for the quality of the drinks. Ask how much the drinks are becaus ethey are not listed on the menus. Maybe Old City is used to this kind of thing, but elsewhere it just wouldn't fly.

Mexican Post was a lot better than most of the Mexican places in Philadelphia, but certainly not good enough to please the trained taste buds of a seasoned Mexican Food eater from Southern California. Margaritas were a bit sour, but alcohol content was good! Great price on the food though!

This place is so good! The best margaritas, cheap cheap, wonderful soft chicken tacos, great free chips and salsa! It's so much fun to go there whether for dinner or just drinks. I have a final on "Cinco de Mayo" for a night class, so I'm headed to the Post for "Seis de Mayo" on Tuesday with a friend!

Great place to have some Margarita's with friends and watch people. The food is hardly mexican and definitely not noteworthy. I'm originally from Texas and miss the excellent Mexican food. If it's good burritos you want head to El Azteca II on 7th and Chestnut or better yet, to La Lupe's near Geno's in the Italian Market.

This was definitely a hit ---I went w/ my girlfriend just to try something different ...OH BOY!!! We both had appetizers, drinks, and our meal for under $30. The old saying "you pay for what you get" does not apply here. The food was better than good. After eating here, you won't ever settle for chain restaurants again ...good location, good vibe, very diverse but not weird, and the food makes you wish you saved some for days.
