This restaurant would fit right in on the Left Bank--the waitresses are rude and the food is overpriced. Despite being the largest party in the restaurant (12 people), we had trouble getting water out on the table, let alone bread. It took the waitress 3 trips just to take our orders, which brings us to the food.

I've had better french onion soup in diners, frankly. It was lukewarm and tasteless. My entree was overcooked and rather small. The waitress also ripped off our table on corking fees, charging a magnum of wine as three bottles. At least in France, I wouldn't be expected to tip for service like this--here, there was a mandatory 20% gratuity because of the size of our party.

Cons: Bad service, overpriced food, ripped off on corking fees.

Wines, food everything was outstanding. The guest in this tiny dining room were licking the plates (one did litterally).
The wine list is short but I couldn't decide. From the 1st course to dessert we were stunned!. We heard that lunch is also amazing!
Stay tune

Pros: Paris Paris

When I heard it was owned by the same people as Caribou Cafe, I had to give a try. Succulent is the food! Lunch is a must do with colleagues and dinner with friends. Their wine selection is..........someone must know about wines back there! Typical bistro you'd find in Paris, without paying all that euro>>>

My husband and I popped into this adorible restaurant for lunch the other day. We love seafood, and the two entrees we had were amazing. I'll get to them in a minute. We started with the tuna and salmon carpaccio, an appetizer, definitely enough for two to share. A great amount of high quality fish for heavy duty sashimi fans. We also shared the house salad, which was dressed to perfection. Now onto the entrees. I ordered the butterfish, which comes wrapped in grape leaves with a peppercorn sauce. Exquisite. My husband ordered the special of the day, swordfish in a mussel saffron au jus. Also exquisite. We're definitely going back, to try their everyday steak frites. Another table ordered it, and the aroma was amazing. We loved our server, she made us feel really welcome. We'll be back for dinner too.

This is one of my favorite restaurants in the city! It is perfect for a nice romantic evening, since it is small, intimate and candlelit. And, it's a BYOB, making it even better!

Recently I had a steamed shellfish dish that was wonderful - not only in taste (it was accented with a delicious tomato-based sauce), but also in presentation (the shellfish are just beautiful in all shapes, colors and sizes).

Note that the prices are a little more on the expensive side, and do not expect heaping plates full of food (yuck! Who wants to over-stuff themselves during a nice meal anyways?!?). A dinner for two will likely cost over $100 if electing to select from all three courses....but it is well worth it for a delicious evening!

Pros: Great seafood, BYOB, romantic

Cons: A little expensive, sitting close enough to overhear your neighbor's conversation well!

Best seafood yet. Fresh, simple and elegant. Try surf and turf, changes daily and skate.Desserts delightful.

I was surprised to see the restaurant empty at 8:30pm, but fortunately that didn't discourage my guest and me. We each ordered a fish entree, St. Pierre in Beurre Rouge and Tuna in another tasty sauce. As it was empty till that point the entrees came out far too quickly. However, they were delicious and the pace slowed much and the restaurant got busier from there. Even with more patrons it was never noisy inside. For dessert the cheese plate was also very generous, with chevre, camembert, figs, brie, and a frisee salad. Recommended for dates or even for groups.

My wife and I have been going to La Boheme for the last two years and have seen many changes. Yet it remains our favorite place to dine in Philadelphia. The atmosphere is dark and romantic, the service has always been excellent. We have never had any complaints about the food it has always been wonderful. The menu changes daily so you have a new experince each time you visit. On our last visit we had a nice conversation with the new chef. I have read the last couple reviews and cant see why they are not very good.

Overpriced, extremely small portions, and bread presented as if special yet no better than some bought at Acme. Below average service - when asked if he could divide the check he said no since he just put it into the system. You mean to tell me you charge $28 per plate and can't change something in the "system"? Lazy. Food was tasteless.

Portions insultingly small, particularly the salad. Salmon presented as two luke-warm postage-stamp sized square pieces, served upside down (skin on top). Noise level was incredibly high, requiring us to shout across the table in order to carry on a conversation. Bread was served as if something special, but really quite ordinary. Prices outrageous for the amount of food delivered. A terrible and expensive experience. Never again!

I went to this restaurant with 9 of my friends and had the worst meal of any place in Philadelphia. The service was so slow that the table couldn't even enjoy the conversation because we were all so hungry. Then, when the food finally arrived half of the table's food was cold. The waiter then returned the entrees to the kitchen and everyone's meal that was reheated was overcooked. The management was then rude when we nicely mentioned the fact! On top of that, the desserts were horrible! The crepes were like baby food filled plastic and the creme brulee was burnt with NO consistency. I would NEVER return here. Beware if you decide on this "restaurant."

The small amount of food served here was really outragous. I am all for quality over quantity and I know to expect this in many French establishments. I actually felt ripped off. I was here about a year and a half ago and really liked it. But meals have downsized since then. I should have paid more attention to the other postings before going. So if you like a romantic little hideaway BYO with EXTREMELY small well prepared portions and good service you will like this. But for the money it was not for me. Never again, not recommended.

A new chef- a new menu- many new dishes- . The Calves liver with mixed onion dish was the best liver meal we have had in any restaurant. Great quality, perfectly cooked and the onion accompanyment was perfect. A beef tartare dish was perfectly spiced and the Lamb dish was excellent, with lots of different flavors added .The new menu has many interesting choices and we plan to return soon.

Something must really have changed for the better since these recent bad reviews. We're glad we didn't disregard this restaurant. It was fabulous! The servers were extremely helpful and attentive. Ours suggested the warm artichoke puree and sweet potato soup for appetizers, which were both excellent! We had Chicken Pantine and Leek Flan for entrees and both were mouth watering and of generous portions. Dessert followed with a delicious caramelized apple dish topped with pastry and sorbetto. Everything was so great that we were compelled to meet the chef who graciously came to our table. We are not sure how long he has been here but maybe this is the secret to the turnaround. We overheard other patrons mention that the meal was fabulous as usual so maybe this is a neighborhood secret that we shouldn't be revealing... sorry!

It really was one of the worst restaurant experiences I have ever had. I wish I had read the bad reviews before I went. The service was terrible (someone should tell these guys we ain't in France). After we had our mussels (the only good part of the meal-beware they have no sauce in them though) our entrees took 40 min to come out, with no apology from our server. The portions were very small for the $$ and were both tasteless and bland. Overall, you know it had to be bad if my boyfriend and I (both ex servers) left less than 10%. The place really does leave a bad taste in your mouth....

I called up to change my reservations and checked to make sure that everything was allright. And then called back and checked again. We showed up at 9:30 Pm for our reservation and the manager pretended like he had no idea about anything, and said that we didn't have reservations. So we left, hungry. I suggest that you don't go to this place. The service is terrible and so was the ambience. Teh one time we ate there, we thought the food was average.

Mediocre at best! Grilled calamari appetizer was in fact breaded and fried and way too salty. We ordered the same salad and one portion had tons of bacon in it, the other portion barely had a few bits. The desserts were half decent although crème brule was extremely sweet. When the restaurant filled up with people, the air conditioning became completely inadequate. The prices were outrageous and overall price to food value was just poor. If they don't fire the chef - just don't go!

Good bread? One marvelous roll among several mediocre ones, but only one was found. Waitress recommended steak frites, but it was just plain steak I could get elsewhere. Garlic mayonnaise sauce seemed more like mayo with a little garlic flavor rather than "sauce." My wife had Moroccan beef stew, which was very good--highly recommended! French onion soup was "sweet;" a strange flavor--stay away. Server reported being unsure about some of the specials but never checked back. I agree with some that it is too expensive for the quality, service, or decor.

I absolutely enjoyed everything both I (and my date) had at this restaurant. I'm a huge fan of quality food in a relaxed atmosphere. I'd like to imagine that I could get simple yet very appealing food (such as what is served here) daily. However the prices make that impossible. Virtually everything on the menu should have been (in my opinion) 25% cheaper. I must however reemphasize that the food epitomized bistro; (quick, efficient, simple and satisfying) and I'd gladly go again.

Went with 3 others, I was wowed but other reviews were mixed. Worst review from anyone was "just pretty-good". I had the amazing cheese plate, followed by a great pork chop special with cider-jus sauce and a fig stuffing. Others started with the shrimp en brochette, which disappointed as they were not actually in pasrty! Entres were the moroccan lamb stew (very good), the tuna nicoise (extremely well prepared), and the apricot chicken (I liked it, others were less enthused). Prices were reasonable and their bread was incredible. The only down side was the waiter, who's accent was so thick it was very discouraging to ask him questions. All in all, a great neighborhood BYO, at least in my eyes.

In my wife & I's current goal of checking out all the new (and old) BYOs in Philly, we stumbled on La Boheme. We ate on a Monday night and had no problem walking in w/o a reservation.

The service is top-notch which is always important in whether a new restaurants warrents a return visit. The food, however, is the real reason for this review because it was fantastic. My price fixed meal (a bargain at $30) was good from start to finish. I chose the mussels and out came a huge bowl of the best ones I've had in a long time. My entree was steak frites which was cooked perfectly. I ended the meal with a sublime creme brulee. My wife had the halibut special with truffled gnocchi which was absolutely delicious. Being a BYO, our check (with generous tip) came to under $70. A+!

I agree that the place is a bit cramped and feels like a huge party stuffed into someone's small dining room, but for that exact same reason it is a great, 'homey' experience. I loved the food as well...the escargot was good and I also enjoyed the moroccan lamb stew. Presentation was impressive with interesting authentic pots. The wait staff, even though the place was totally filled, was very attentive and helpful, as well as totally friendly. I'm definitely going back!!!!

I have only been once so far, but I was really impressed - and that after frequenting similar places in several major cities. The prix fixe is a particular find, and everything I had was wonderful from the beginning of the meal to the end. I don't understand another reviewer's complaints about it being 'overhyped.' Been to Old City lately? This was just great food without a lot of club/foodie-scene-making nonsense.

la boheme was a quick fix for me and a few freinds one night when we were going to see the orchestra. It turned out to be a very nice place with a pre fixe menu for 30 dollars and a regular menu with fairy priced entres. I allways love the feel of a byob just something very freindly about it, homey and authentic. My monkfish was a little dry and the lamb stew that two others had did not look too good, but the boulliabaise that was served up looked very apealing, the creme brule I finished my meal with was a treat it was very good, and a really big serving. I woudl say a good place to try, but it's a hit or miss kinda deal. I do want to go back to try the duck liver pate, my apetizer was the escargot which I do recomend.

My only complaint about this place is that it's very cramped. Some tables are just inches apart, and this could do some serious damage to intimate conversations. Given a good "spot" or indifference to proximity of others, I really like this place. The decor is cozy, and the food has been quite good on multiple visits. Excellent Venison Osso Bucco, Shrimp & Crab Galette, and Arugula & Goat Cheese salad satisfied the palate on one visit...

C'mon people--I'm so tired of going to these overly hyped little one-room "intimate" restaurants...do you miss the ambiance of a noisy grade-school cafeteria? Do you enjoy sitting less than a foot away from the tables around you? How does a place like this fall into the "romantic BYOB" category? Someone explain this to me please. The food was oh-so-average, but the entree's sure did look pretty (sarcasm here). Why is it that people think that presentation can overrule taste buds? Don't go.

What a treat - if interested in delicious french food at reasonable prices, this is it. Arugula/Goat cheese salad was great, Mussels in wine were delicious and very tender (better than a Belgian beer house 5 blocks west); Filet was cooked perfectly. Atmosphere is quaint, good service. Great date place - make sure to not miss desserts!

The boring classics are there in case you want them (steamed mussels, baked salmon etc). But in my case, one of the things I miss the most about Paris is the Maroccan food, so I was very pleased with the north african twist the chef puts on traditional dishes. We had the spicy escargots, lamb with prunes and safran mashed potatoes, and ginger-crusted seared ahi tuna. All were delicious, and although the prices are a little high for our student budget, the food lovers we are thought is was worth it.
