I had a party of 6 for dinner Sunday evening 8/1. Food, service and ambiance were very good. However I will not return because of the customer unfriendly policy of charging a 3 1/2% fee to use a credit card. My bill was $230 plus a $45 tip.
I don't think it's good business to lose a customer over a $9 fee. No one else applies that kind of charge and there are lots of other good places to dine.

My husband and I came here for a lovely eveing just the 2 of us to enjoy our anniversary and we had a splended time. The food was authentic and warm and served on time. They give you very big portions and the price wasn't too bad either. The atmosphere was delightful and old worldly. The bar was a bit expensive I would advise byob. The servers were ok but nothing above and beyond. All around it was a great evening out the veal was amazing and my husbands muscles were delious. We had a wonderful time and would love to go back and here more stories about this historic place.

I went here with business associates. The food was fantastic and the service was quite attentive. That said, the restaurant takes NO CREDIT CARDS. The no credit card policy brings this from a 5 star to 3 because the food is in no way cheap. Not taking credit cards is a big inconvenience. Parking is a pain but they do provide a valet (not very fast but he did park the car).

I was here on a business dinner and it was awesome. The staff was very good without being overly hovery. The food was excellent - antipasto appetizer got us ready for the main course. Most of us had pasta's with red sauce (a must have in Philly). Highly recommend

Okay, so I was staying next door to the restaurant in a B&B, and I'd read about the Nicky Scarfo Jr. mob "attention" (unsuccessful, I might add) on Halloween 1989, so I wanted to experience a true South Philly Italian eatery with a "past". I got over that quickly once I sat down. The wait staff was attentive without being obtrusive, and my $34 (including salad, pasta, and one wine) got me two dinners' worth, and a good dinner at that. Personally, I don't get too excited when someone calls pasta sauce "red gravy", as long as it's good. And this certainly was good. Soft music in the background and an Italian "undercurrent" (or was that my imagination?) lent themselves to a very nice experience. Naysayers and purists aside, this one is worth a trip.

I was excited to go here for the first time recently but ultimately was disappointed in the food. The service was great. The atmosphere was fun in an old fashioned kind of way. But the shrimp on my pasta was not very fresh. The prices were high for pasta that wasn't housemade. My dining partner's piece of fish was small and alone on the plate. The appetizers were better. I wouldn't go back.

Dante and Luigi's is an amazing Italian restaurant! The food is delicious. The olive oil dip they serve with their bread is fantasstic. The prices are pretty reasonable given the portion sizes, but its not cheap. The service here is great too!

My wife and I eat out at least once a week. Are were both from New York and living in central NJ typicall go to Manhattan for dinner. Last summer we decided to go to Philadelphia for a change of pace and selected Dante & Luigi based on internet reviews.

We could not have been happier. It is truly one of, if not the best, Italian restaurants we have even been to. Yes, it is a little expensive and you need to bring cash but definately worth it. I have been recommending this restaurant to friends and cannot wait to return.

Service was courteous and food was GREAT! It is a must.

Funny thing ? I came on here to write a great review for Dante and Luigi?s because I eat there all the time and have recommend it successfully to a lot of out of town travelers and I read the slanderous review below. WOW, nothing can be further from the truth. I have only have exceptional service and amazing food there for the past 10+ years. The hostess and I on a first name basis and everyone from the bus-boys to the waiters have treated me great. Not to mention that the food is second to none! I have never had better Italian food anywhere! Don?t let one bad apple with an axe to grind stop you from visiting this fine restaurant. Take it from someone who knows good food and service ? Dante and Luigi?s is a winner!

We went here because my sister choose to. I would never pick a place that was this expenisve. My mixed drink was $8. The lamb stew was delicious. If you go be prepared to pay at least $50 a person for dinner, drink and appetizer. I do not think that I will be returning I just don't have that kind of money. Also remember to take enough cash, they do not take credit cards.

My husband and I go out to eat at least once a week and we have tried to go to new restaurants or ones we have never tried. But we find that we seem to always end up at Dante and Luigi's. We have realized that its the delicious, mouth watering "like home" food and the great service that just keeps pulling us back.
To tell you the truth I could eat there every nite.

Pros: Saturday nite valet

This place is cash only so make sure you bring plenty of money because the lasagna is 18 bucks and that doesn't include a salad. A glass of wine is over 7 bucks. The food is OK, but I have had better for much less and the decor and service also leaves something to be desired. If you have more money than you know what to do with make sure you ask for a table that is NOT in the bar - it has linoleum floors and looks like someone?s garage.

Dante & Luigi's is a superb place to go when you really have a jones for some traditional Italian-American fare. The service is always highly attentive and can border on being a bit overbearing. But the food is always enjoyable and it is always a pleasant place to go.

This was the worst italian restaurant I have ever eaten at. And we have been to many many many in Philadelphia. The food was below average. I have had better in the "Chain" places. Also, the bar tab was ridiculous. Where can you find below average foodthat is very moderately priced and then have an after dinner cordial for 11.67? Dante & Luigi's. We were a party of six had a good evening until we got the bill. At the bottom of the bill was $70. We assumed that they had added gratuity. But the waiter came back and said that that was actually our last round of limoncello. Did they buy gold lemons when they made that??? $70 for six little shots of lemon and sugar???? When six people eat pasta that cost around $17 - $25 have 2 glasses of wine and and after dinner cordial - The bill should not be $500. This joint is run by thieves.

You have to love the restaurants in South Phila. We go to a different one every time we go to the city and seldom repeat, but this one is worth a second trip. Excellent food, service and atmosphere. We like the very small restaurants where the staff will take the time to talk to you. This restaurant is slightly larger than the small ones we enjoy, however you never would have known it from the way we were treated. Highly reccomended -

The dining area that we were seated in appeared to be a converted basement. It was dim and drafty, with cold cemented walls. The window "decorations" looked like cheap junk from a flea market. About my meal: the house salad was good (but how can you really screw up a salad?) My entee of fettuicine w/ alfredo was just ok. The alfredo sauce was a bit too thin. My companion ordered fish that was overcooked to the point of being hard. Both portions were pretty small. The service was good even though the we were not given olives with our bread/oil, nor were we offered dessert at the end of the meal. I wouldnt go back. The prices are too high for the quality, the quantity of the food they serve and for the "basement like" atmosphere

i have to say, the food was delicious - but it wasn't any amazing shakes. it is a nice little "hole in the wall place" - at least around 6-8 when my boyfriend and i ate there - to take a date for a quiet night out. their service was attentive, perhaps a little too attentive. we werent done eating our caprese and the plates were whisked out from under us. listen carefully to the specials because they are phenominal. all together a great little place to grab a moderately priced yet savory italian meal. BRING CASH!! they dont accept credit cards.

I work at a hotel in center city, and everytime I have someone who wants an Italian dinner, you can bet they're being sent to D&L's by me. There are many Italian restaurants closer, but why bother when the can have the best, and it's a quick cab ride? I have yet to hear a guest give a review that's anything less than a rave when returning from dinner. Thanks, Dante & Luigi's~you make my job easier.

Dante and Luigi's is one of my wife's and my favorite restaurants. We started going here on a recommendation from a friend and have been back many times. The food is great. I personally love the chicken parmigiana. If you are going, be sure to make reservations for either of the two formal dining rooms. There are three rooms here, one has the bar. You want to ask for either the side room or the back room, not the bar area. These rooms are very romantic.

As I am perpetually in search of my own little Italian restaurant, I was very excited to check out Dante & Luigi's. While the service was good and the dishes pretty reasonably-priced, both my sister and I were disappointed to find our pasta dishes very salty (though not as salty as Maggiano's). My pasta bolognese would have been so much better with real flavors instead of a sodium overload.

A must experience for anyone who hasn't tried this great restaurant.

Once again I had the opportunity to indulge myself with food from Dante & Luigi's. As usual I was not disappointed! The food was absolutely outstanding and the service was equally outstanding.

The mussels were a delight. The linguini was reminiscent of eating at my grandmother's house. The dessert was out of this world!

Do yourself a favor and explore this fine dining opportunity.

My wife and I searached the Italian Market area and found 3 restaurants that we liked. We decided to try Dante & Luigi's. We got there right after it opened so it was almost empty. The dining area was bright and clean and the music was soft and mellow. Our waiter was very pleasant and prompt as were the other delivery and clean up guys. Our appetizer, bread & olive oil, and meals were delivered promptly. But the best thing was the taste. Our meals were so tasty that so we cleaned our plates clean with the bread. You can't go wrong at this restaurant. The meals were in the teens and the carife of wine was also rasonable.
