I found a cat that had been attacked by another animal. Both of her back legs were mangled. I called VCA Old Trail and was told to come right in. They took x-rays and the doctor explained that one leg could not be saved, but the other one with treatment should heal. He assured me that cats adjust well to having only three legs. It has been several month, and he was right, she is doing great on just three legs. I can not say enough good things about this hospital and it's wonderful, caring staff! You all are FANTASTIC and thank you so much for taking great care of my new best friend!

My little dog got very sick, and I took him to VCA Old Trail. They were compassionate and dedicated to finding out exactly what was wrong with him, and how to make him well again. If it was not for their drive to healing my little dog, I know he would not be sitting here next to me today, and to still have him here is worth Everything.

Dr. Stanley Cohn started this clinic and for years provided exceptional care at reasonable prices. Planning his semi-retirement he sold the practice to VCA (a chain like McDonalds) with Dr. Gary Lukacs remaining on staff. The practice has since specialized in "running up the bill" with expensive lab tests, over priced medications that normal effective diagnostics used by other vets would prove un-necessary. My experience with two guinea pigs and most recently with my chocolate lab has left our family heartbroken.
I contacted the practice explaining to the receptionist that our dog is arthritic and has mobility issues asking for an "end of day" appointment to minimize the waiting room stay. Our long time companion had been vomiting foamy pleghm and was in obvious discomfort. Reception was sympathetic and asked us to come in at 6:00 PM. After a forty five minute wait Dr. Lukacs saw us, gleefully removed a loose tooth (which I could have pulled myself, at a cost of $35.00), prescribed an OTC antacid and ran blood tests. The doctor reported the blood tests revealed good heart, kidney and liver function, although the dog still vomited frequently. I called the practice back and was assured the doctor would return my call in minutes, after three follow up calls I finally spoke to the doctor who asked us to bring the dog back for X-Rays ($$$). At this point I was less than impressed with this schmucks diagnostic ability and we visited another practice which after a cursory exam immediately diagnosed my poor dogs condition. The dog exhausted from his ordeal was euthanized a week after the initial visit to these charlatans. Do your homework and for the love of your animals find another vet, there are plenty of good, honest practices nearby

I had a goat which was about to give birth. Although this clinic usually only sees small animals, Dr. Lucas called personally and said he did farm animals. He said he would come out and do the vaccinations, make sure they were healthy and disbud the kids horns once they were born. When my goat kidded she got mastitis. I called and the receptionist said she would leave him a message in his inbox because he was very busy. 24 hours later i called again, and she assured he would call back when he had time. 48 hours later i called again and she was impatient with me and said he would get to me when he could. My $300 milk goat...her udder ended up ruined from the mastitis while waiting for him and trying to find another vet for large animals. All but one goat kid ended up with scurred horns because he NEVER returned my calls and it took me a while to find someone else to do what he said he would do.

This place was built by Dr. Cohen, a wonderful doctor and person. It was fine when it was just him and Dr. Lucas. Dr Cohen wanted to semi-retire and sold it to VCA Animal Hospitals, a chain. Since then the prices are sky high. I know things are expensive but they are unneccessarily
outrageous because I have compared. I went in to have an abcess syringed out of a stray cat's shoulder that I adopted and they came back in the room with a quote of way over 500$ for all kinds of other things and tests they wanted to do. I said no way, just take care of what I came in for. I then went elsewhere for her shots and she is fine. This is not the first for this kind of thing. They also charge more than any
place to put your pet to sleep. There is no excuse for that. And their
markup for medicine is terrible. For example they were going to charge me 20$ for 1 worm pill for my cat, and that was 3 or 4 years ago. Believe me I did not pay it. I can go online and find out what they pay for a bottle of pills and divide that up.
How stupid do they think we are. They also try to charge you for medical waste disposal, like 5.99$ and I think that went up. I refuse for that too. I worked in a closed shop pharmacy that made IV's and we never charged for this. Just think if you take 3 animals in you will pay that for each one and so on. $ 18.00. The place nice but you are getting ripped off. Also if you need spaying or neutering go to Animal Rescue for only 30$ instead of paying up to 200$. Animal Rescue cares and I went there to have a cat neutered and he is great and I also left a donation. Unfortunately they don't do dogs that I know of. But I'm sure there is some where that does cause it's about 400$ at VCA.

How VERY sad that so many innocent pets have been HARMED!!!!!!!!
PLEASE help protect other clients and their pets from incompetent veterinarians hiding behind large Corporations where profits are more important than pets.
EACH of you who has suffered should SERIOUSLY consider filing a COMPLAINT with the PA State Board of Veterinary Licensure (google this). FOLLOW up phone calls to them to check complaint status will ensure that no MORE animals and pets are harmed AND ripped off!!! PLEASE DO THIS!!!

How SAD to read of YET ANOTHER dog harmed by this facility..........BLECH.
Ask them about their 2010 SURGICAL FAILURE rate for intestinal procedures........they have 100% FAILURE rate for a procedure that has a LESS THAN 2 % failure rate with competent veterinarians...........YIKES.
Bea I am so very sorry for your loss of your dog......you should file a COMPLAINT with the PA STATE VET LICENSURE BOARD!!!!!!!!!!!

I beg anyone who loves their pet dearly to never set foot in this place. The staff and vets may "care" for the animals but not all of them are qualified to properly care and treat sick animals. If you are looking for a vet for just annual check ups and vaccinations then you might be okay. However, if your pet becomes sick a few of the vets in this place do not have a clue as to what to do. Don't get me wrong they will definitely do something over and over again and charge you a great deal. However when it comes to truly knowing what is going on and when to send you to a specialist they lack in judgement and experience. I had to learn this the hard way and now my beloved pet is dead when it could have been avoided. The reponsibility of knowing that I trusted these people with my dog and that I had to make a decision to put the pet to sleep because of a misdiagnosis is something I will have to live with for the rest of my life.

Don't do this to yourself. Seek a vet that has experience, compassion and the proper training to know and understand symptoms and conditions. We pay the vets because they are suppose to know more about the medical side of animals than the average human. I learned more over the internet than I ever did from the vet I was taking my dog to at VCA. By the time I learned what my dog had it was too late.

I usually don't write these types of testimonials because I believe in giving individuals the benefit of the doubt. However, the horror I have experienced over the untimely death of my dog I would not want anyone else to go through.

It is worth the money spent to take your pet to see an internists or specialist. There are many good ones out there including those at the Pet ER is Towson, MD.

I have been going to VCA for a few years now, and usually have been satisfied with the care. However, I recently took my dog to be groomed there, and he came back with an awful skin infection. When I took him to the vet to be checked out, they said it wasn't "their" fault, rather my dogs for having such a reaction. Then they tried to charge me 200 dollars for their mistake. When I said it was ridiculous that I had to pay for something that happened because of their groomer, they were not pleasant (I haggled down to 65 dollars). Plus when I got the prescription filled at the local drugstore, all of a sudden, the prescription was a much higher dose with a much higher price tag than the vet quoted. (140 dollars more). So....$80 for grooming, $65 for vet appointment, and $150 for prescription...all because of something one of their employees did. I am very upset, and I will be searching for a new vet and a new groomer.

The staff there are wonderful! We had to meet a surgeon from MD at their facility. There were scheduling complications and, even though our pet is not their patient, they took such good care of us. If we lived closer to Shrewsbury this is where we would take our pets. Thank you for your kindness!

Old Trail Animal Hospital is an excellent facility. The vets are very thorough and explain everything in detail. However, since they have hooked up with VCA, their rates have skyrocketed. I took a STRAY cat in there and ended up spending $289 on her first visit and that didn't even include having her spayed which would have been an additional $170.

$459 for a stray cat? I think not! We ended up taking the momma kitty to Animal Rescue and had her spayed there for $30. No wonder there are so many people who don't have their pets spayed/neutered.
