I have not been to this store for many years because of what I had witnessed while shopping there for the first time. The young man and woman behind the counter waited on a customer who had just spent $25.00. When he exited the store, they both commented on how cheap the customer was, since he'd spent only $25.00! Then, a man, who was with his small children and was making a large purchase, presented a coupon. They refused to take it, were very rude to the man, and said that he should have told them he had the coupon before they rang him up. The man, who was very polite, obviously did not want to disappoint his children, so he made the purchase anyway. With that, I left the store, never to return again. I have no problem finding the same inventory -- and better-- in shops in Jim Thorpe and other towns. I refuse to pay people to be rude to me.

Was on vacation in the Poconos with my boyfriend and spotted this wonderful gift shop. Inside is absolutely gorgeous with tons of unique well-priced items. So many items that I had to take two or three rounds before deciding what I wanted. I am the kind of shopper that likes to see all my options and then trim them down to what I really want.

I have to admit, I am shy, and some people may misread that. As I finished my rounds inside the store, I decided on a snail figurine and to look at rings inside the glass cases. Particularly a silver one with a bronze face in it. It was $42.00 and I could easily afford it but as I asked to see it I could feel the two ladies behind the counter being snide. I said perhaps $42.00 is not in my budget today but I wanted to keep looking they said OK and snatched the ring from me, which felt very unwelcoming. My logic is If I am going to spend $42.00 why not try and make it two or three items instead. My boyfriend, who was looking for a present for his mother, found a wind chime and asked me if it would be a nice gift. I was already uncomfortable from the two shop clerks and looked at them, and they shrugged at us rudely. So I said, just leave the wind chime and we should go.

A few locals came in and they were very nice to them. The two ladies spoke to a man who decided on a small purchase as they chimed conversation with him about chocolate. He kept going, "Uh-huh" trying to excuse himself.

A young man around my age was looking for turquoise and he decided on a cheaper $4.00 stone instead of a higher priced one. The tone of voice of the ladies change.

I bought the snail but decided I would not enjoy having it in my house if it would remind me of the rude ladies that worked there so I ran back in and told the clerk that, "I paid for this but I won't enjoy it because of my bad experience here" and left.

I understand business my be rough and that you may lower your prices to encourage more sales but I firmly believe not to give business to rude shops no matter how much you want their products..

Planet Earth is a wonderful store for unique, one of a kind gift items you wouldn't find anywhere else! I do most of my birthday and holiday shopping here when buying for friends. There is no where else like it in the Poconos. It is also a fun store to spend some time browsing through. I have never left there empty handed.

Highly recommended.

I shop ALOT online, particularly for fair-trade gifts made in 3rd world countries and when I found Planet Earth on Rt 611, I couldn't believe that their prices were lower than online, and I didn't have to pay the mandatory shipping and handling.

Their selection is good and the store is just bursting with wonderful objects from all over the world, perfect for gift giving for friends and family, not to mention yourself.

The owner is a very pleasant woman, ever helpful and one can forever browse the interesting objects on display.

So if you want hand-made jewelry, clothing, windchimes, incense, statues, jewelry boxes, geodes, and the list goes on and on, it's a great place to go. I can guarantee you'll return!
