Montessori of the Nittany Valley is the best! One of the reasons my husband and I moved back to State College was so that our kids would be able to attend this wonderful school. Having once been a teacher at the school, I knew that there was no better place for our children. The teacher's are all incredibly kind, patient and exceptional at what they do! The children learn far more than just their abc's, they also learn to be respectful of their peers and of their environment. Contrary to a past review, I have always found the school to be immaculate, and the trash-free lunches are an excellent way to teach our children (and their parents) how to take better care of our environment. I have worked in a few preschools in Pennsylvania, but none come close to MSNV! There's nowhere else in the world I would send my children!

I would not recommend this preschool. The program is very liberal and it is honestly cult-like. They push their beliefs on you and it made me very uncomfortable. They are nurturing to children, however, it isn't a very clean place at all. Children were not allowed to bring anything disposable and a lot of the teachings revolve around "mother earth".

When I was looking for child participants for a research study, I was told to talk to this school. Immeadiately, I was impressed with the director's openess to research and willingness to help me gain parental trust and get participants. Dropping off the consent forms, I was directly impressed with the school. Physically, the school was clean, bright and well organized. Psychologically, the environment was calm and nurturing. As I continued to be at the school (running my study) I noticed that children did not need to be told to behave or stay on task, they did all this by choice. Children worked independently on various tasks that were tailored to their own developmental level. Teachers were guides, and children were in direct charge of their own learning- THEY WANTED TO BE!

Montessori schools supposedly all run on the philosophy of self guided learning, but I'm not sure they all nurture the child as well as this school in Nittany Valley.
