This is the best restaurant out this way for Italian food. I come down from Lower Pottsgrove. It saves me a trip to South Philadelphia and a lot of aggravation. The veal saltimbucca is simply delicious. The spinach is just the way my mother used to make it with olive oil and a hint of heat. The rack of lamb is a top choice and well worth the price. Maria's banana cream pie is to die for.. Go there you will love it.

I never expected such a great kitchen in a neighborhood restaurant. While the antipasto wasn't remarkable, it was quite good, and so plentiful that we couldn't finish it. Starting to feel a bit full, when my Eggplant Parmigiano arrived I cut it in half so that I could take the uneaten part home. Finishing the half, I thought, "Well, just a little more," as I carved off another small slice. And so it went, until the plate was bare.

The waitress asked if we would like dessert, and, stuffed to the eyeballs, we laughed. However, when she brought the tray so that we might "just take a peek," there was one very interesting thing that looked like a large slice of some kind of cake with several layers of filling. We succumbed to the temptation, but planned to share an order, and each take home half of our half. Unfortunately, after one taste of this creation, which turned out to be a Lemon Tira Misu, we couldn't stop.

We left the restaurant much heavier than we arrived, and with diets blown to smithereens, but knowing that we would soon return.

Pros: Simply Excellent Food

Cons: Your diet is destroyed!

It was my first time having a meal at Maria's after hearing about it from people who raved about it's authenticity. I must say that it did not disappoint. We ordered crab-stuffed shrimp, gnocchi, broccoli rabe, hot antipasta (calamari, polenta & artichoke hearts) and halibut. Our meal came with bread and salad. The price was very reasonable for the portions (between $14 - $27). Their pumpkin cheesecake was delicious (and mind you, I don't like cheesecake)! The quality of service made the biggest impression on me. The servers are very kind and care about the patrons' well-being. I am certain to return with other people!

The only thing that my friend mentioned about the gnocchi sauce was that it may have been a bit too tomato-ey (and she grew up in Italy). But I guess Italians have their different tastes as well.

Pros: Service & Food

Cons: No windows (but there may be a reason for that...)

I go there at least once a month, Maria's food is a taste of Italy right here in Roxborough. Great food with excellent owners. Although the staff are all pleasant I always ask for Trish.

Maria's Ristorante has the best homemade lobster ravioli I've ever tasted! The prices are a little high, but you will not be disappointed with the quality of the food...although I think the desserts are store-bought. The tiramisu left a lot to be desired. I would recommend Marias to anyone who wants to enjoy a delicious italian meal in a small, cozy atmosphere.

My dad is one of the pickiest italian eaters and he is here at least once a week. They have great customer service, the owners and staff couldn't be more welcoming, and the food is wonderful. It's also a great place to bring a date!

Editorial from

This southern Italian restaurant brings South Philly style to Roxborough, a working class neighborhood adjacent to gentrified Manayunk. In the cheerful dining rooms, Mama Maria dishes up polenta with sausage and mushrooms, as well as all…
